We had no way of contacting our children, who were in transit in Europe. We used the internet to find a listing of companies who could help us. We called AquaticStart LLC, and we are so glad we did. Within 5 minutes, Joe Montalvo, the owner, was on his way and arrived at the house 30 minutes later. He quickly drained most of the water from the tank, helped us get a 46 gallon fish tank as a stop gap measure, then moved the fish. Somehow he manged to save all the fish. He helped to diagnose a problem with my pond equipment without even seeing it. The fix required a replacement part and he ordered it. I stopped by Friday to pay for it and pick it up (was told to keep the box and receipt because I had 7 days in case of any problem), took it home, and found the part did not fit. I went back Saturday to return the item and was told I couldn't return a special order. Jim was not there. I left my number for Jim to call me (he wasn't there at the time). When I called him Tuesday he still refused to refund me, claiming that I am responsible for his having ordered the wrong part. The conversation ended with his offer for me to make another trip to his shop, and if it is the wrong part, he would offer me store credit. Poor first-time experience, I doubt I'll be back. That's what I get for trying to support small local business instead of ordering from Amazon...

The only ones happy about the existing conditions were the frogs - lots and lots of frogs. Nick came highly recommended by a landscaper that had seen his work and was really impressed. We were listing our home for sale and had to act quickly to make it presentable. Nick came through for us. In day he drained and cleaned the pond, refilled it, got the filters and waterfall working smoothly and safely relocated LOTS of frogs. They only accept debit/ credits cards online and unfortunately 3% goes to processing fees so if you can donate to them directly via cash payment I am sure it is preferred. Now the facility itself looks like an old large house. Enter through the front entrance as some of the entrances there are signs up that it is private resident living (assuming it is a shared property or perhaps one of people that helps run it live in that unit). You wIll be greeted by the person working the phone and computer system and they will inform you cats on the first door on your left and straight back for the dogs. When I first walked through to greet the dogs and give them some love and them me my heart sank a bit as it definitely looks and feels like they need a home to fill up the love. I tried to pet all of them, approx eight to ten dogs total. Seriously thinking of getting more involved as my favorite charity and probably only charity I donate to be honest is for animal welfare. If you can spread some hugs, towels, clean linens, animal beds, unopened pet food, or a monetary donation it will go a long way and I appreciate you supporting a cause close to my heart. They do amazing work and I'm so glad that they have this café so we can come and support them. Entry fee was $15. You can pay online or at the door. This place is so warm and friendly. So many volunteers happy to introduce you to all the residents! The cats are happy! They love visitors and many love to be held, play and enjoy some treats. They have multiple couch's to sit on. There is an adult cat area and the kitten room. Only a limited number can enter the kitten room at once. There are complimentary treats for guests and resident kittys.. The cats have a gum-ball machine filled with treats . There is a free snack area, coffee and tea bar, and a stocked refrigerator full of sodas and water. The decor is PURRFECT. So many cool things pieces of decor throughout the cafe. The bathroom decor is hilarious. Instead of posting photos, I'm gonna post a video that I made for my personal social media. I feel like it truly captures how special this place is. Also, if you are inclined, you can message to see what food they are in need of then you can bring that to donate to their efforts. Last note, it is street parking only. There is a cemetery about a half a block away and there was plenty of street parking available there.

Submitted (electronic) application on October 9, application was approved October 14, kittens selected October 18. The application process was straightforward. It asks for personal references, probes for pet history, and has pointed questions to determine if you understand how to care for a cat. I got an email the next morning saying my application looked great and they would process it ASAP. It did take until Oct 14 to get confirmation that the application was approved, and I did have to follow up to get the confirmation. It seems as though the only contact there is Shauna, the owner/operator, and she is a busy lady. We visited the cat cafe on Oct 18 to meet the prospective kittens. The cafe has a nice, comfortable, very cat friendly area to mingle with the kitties. There are nests and beds all over that the cats are just chilling out in. All the cats were friendly and well socialized. They have the kittens in a separate room to keep them from getting bullied, and that is a comfy space for cats as well. There are plenty of hideouts for the kittens, as well as toys to play with them. The kittens were mostly happy to be cuddled and picked up, with a few exceptions for very shy or wary kittens. We met Shauna, who is very friendly and knowledgeable. After selecting the kittens we wanted to adopt, Shauna asked me to email her letting her know which ones we want. They don't do same-day adoptions. All the cats are fully vetted prior to adoption: vaccinated, spayed/neutered, flea and tick treated, microchipped, and tested negative for feline aids. Considering this is done by the rescue, the $150 adoption fee per cat (or buy-one-get-one!) is extremely reasonable. Due to my schedule I won't bring the fur babies home until early November, and Shauna was more than happy to let them stay at the cafe for a couple of extra weeks.
