I adopted my dog from the Abington Branch in Oct. 2022. I am a senior and received a discount. I had to pick him up from the Conshy location in a two days because he needed to be neutered. My vet said he was about 5 years old. Whoever turned him in gave no information but his name. Now at 9 he has a frosty face. I would recommend them hands and paws down. read more

Arrived here for the first time Sunday afternoon shortly after they opened to drop off a donation of towels and a monetary contribution. They only accept debit/ credits cards online and unfortunately 3% goes to processing fees so if you can donate to them directly via cash payment I am sure it is preferred. Now the facility itself looks like an old large house. Enter through the front entrance as some of the entrances there are signs up that it is private resident living (assuming it is a shared property or perhaps one of people that helps run it live in that unit). You wIll be greeted by the person working the phone and computer system and they will inform you cats on the first door on your left and straight back for the dogs. When I first walked through to greet the dogs and give them some love and them me my heart sank a bit as it definitely looks and feels like they need a home to fill up the love. I tried to pet all of them, approx eight to ten dogs total. Seriously thinking of getting more involved as my favorite charity and probably only charity I donate to be honest is for animal welfare. If you can spread some hugs, towels, clean linens, animal beds, unopened pet food, or a monetary donation it will go a long way and I appreciate you supporting a cause close to my heart. Love the animals they have but it just sucks when all these animal adoption places have you fill out applications but don't accept them. I was told my application was on file and it would be reviewed and I don't think it was. It's just kind of misleading and sucks for the people who want animals and will actually care for them the way some people can't. I understand the website says you agree in knowing that you may not receive anything back from the shelter but still, it's an animal shelter, the job is to put these animals in loving homes read more

A surrendered dog came in which I was told I could take that day. they were closing so I figured ot would be Sun or Mon the latest. call back several times then am told the dog was given to someone else. unsatisfactory customer service. read more

Amateur staff. I called about a dog posted on their website and asked about putting in an application for her. I was told that I had until 4:30 pm that day, so I said I'd be there about 4 pm. When I arrived at 3:30 pm, there was a note on the dog's cage that she had been adopted! I asked the guy out front why that was so, when he told me applications were being taken until 4:30 pm and what changed...? He said he received bad information. Bullcrap! He didn't even care that I wasted my hour time in driving, gas, and commute in a torrential downpour. It was completely unfair that I wasn't even given a chance for this dog, and I came prepared with vet references and such. Now I know why people buy dogs...too much backdoor bs. The staff here seems snobbish and lacking in customer service. read more

I don't know where I am at this point I'm looking to adopt a cat can you help me my cat just died like year and a half ago, it was poisoned by the lawn person next-door, whom I should've sued. My emotion was too high and my crane wouldn't start I'm a man is 70 years old who loves dogs and cats. And this cat was one in 1 million. I adopted my third kitty here. Staff I met were nice. This place is tiny, one kitty room and one dog room. Kitties were all pretty clean when we went there but some of them had puke in their food bowls which made me sad. I see similar things in ACCT philly, too. This place looks very short of staff. It doesn't come with a vet I think, because my kitty needed to be transferred to another facility to get neutered and tested, so we ended up getting him there. read more

In January, we were looking for a calm adult dog. My husband found her at the Abington SPCA!Her name was Tootsie and she was a pit bull being used to breed puppies. The staff were very willing to show her off since she was housebroken AND knew basic commands! Because of this great experience, my husband brought me the following day to get final approval (he was "in charge" of finding our perfect companion!). We were thrilled when once again the staff willingly put her through her paces. Two days later, Madison (a much better name!) was spayed and we brought her to her forever home. She is a calm, fun-loving companion who demonstrates all the great qualities of the American Pit Bull Terrier. She loves our cats, too! We were blessed to have such a great experience! read more

I recently adopted a white cat from the Montgomery County SPCA of Abington and could not have had a more positive experience all around. I was greeted by the front desk person, Nick, and directed to the cat room. I immediately saw healthy, friendly, potential cats to adopt. After receiving some information from Nick, Chelsea was brought in to help me with the adoption process. Chelsea was very sweet and obviously had a very good manner with the cats. They all seemed comfortable with her. Juwaan also came to the cat room with information about the cats. Chelsea and Juwaan spoke about the cats with compassion, were calm and relaxed, and did not rush the adoption process. I chose a cat for adoption, went to the front desk to complete the adoption with Nick and received paperwork regarding the care of my cat, vaccinations, and microchip information. Chelsea pleasantly prepared my cat to go home with me. While waiting, I chatted with the other customers at the shelter. A man was purchasing a license for his dog and a couple were bringing in a stray dog. The other customers were friendly and polite. I am from out of the area, so it was a nice first impression of Abington. I asked the shelter workers for their names because they made such a positive effort in helping an animal become adopted. For a $25 adoption fee, I received a great cat who is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, microchipped and dewormed. plus a positive adoption experience. I would definitely adopt from this shelter again. read more
