The guide was so knowledgeable and made the tour fun and interesting. Enjoyable for all ages.

Come for the natural wonder, leave when they start pushing their agenda! Desoto caverns is a privately owned park boasting a beautiful cavern and grounds. I've visited probably 10 or 12 times over the years and I've always been awed by the majesty of it. The caves have been used for hundreds of years, by Native Americans and then others after the wonder was discovered by the explorer Desoto. Our guide told us that at one point, the cave was home to a speakeasy! Outside the cavern, multiple games including a maze and gem panning have been set up for the kids to play. My kids typically enjoy these, but they can get pricey. My only complaint with the park is the commercialization of such a beautiful natural wonder. Native Americans used the caverns as a burial ground, and while the tribe has been allowed to re-bury the bodies in an undisclosed location in the caverns after they were uncovered, it still seems more than a little intrusive to me. I also take issue with the fact that once people are down in the main cavern, they do a laser light show that has been heavily Christian over the years. I'd rather just check out the cave and not have the owners religious agenda pushed on me. Definitely check it out, but take all the extra nonsense with a grain of salt!

This was an impromptu trip during the long holiday weekend/family visit. We are all glad we were able to experience this cave and get some time outside the house. During covid it has been a challenge to find safe activities but this was definitely a win in terms of safety. There weren't many people there and those who attended wore masks. It was a little pricey for the limited amount of activities hence the 4 stars. The cave itself is amazing and less than an hour long tour. Unlike other caves, it didn't have a claustrophobic feel. Our guide, Michael was humorous and knowledgeable. Great guide! The staff at every station was helpful and friendly. It took about an hour to get here but I recommend this family activity.

We did the homeschool day option with the all inclusive ticket. This gave us access to a guided tour, show, and attractions like mini gold, gyro ride, foam pit, water balloon fight, water gun maze, regular maze, cave crawl, archery, and others. The guided tour was very informative. We enjoyed our guide Amber. She did very well especially since we had a very fussy baby in the group. She stayed very professional through all of it. Didn't let the noise faze her. (I think it helped as we were a small group and all of us are moms and didn't let the baby noise bother us either.) The Lazer show at the end was pretty cool. The kids really enjoyed all the attractions that were available. We actually didn't get to do all of them as there are so many. We were there from 12-5:30. I believe my toddler would have enjoyed alot of it as well. The gift shop is nice as well. They have some treats I side as well as gifts, rocks, and educational items. The campground is literally in the front of the little amusement park. You can set up camp and walk to the caverns and games. There is a big Pavillion with tables, bathrooms (individual stalls that also have a shower in them), gas grills to use. There is lots of tree coverage at the sites. Definitely bring a hammer if you are tent camping as the ground can be hard. They do have little campfire spots.

Awesome for young kids. We enjoyed it. Discount for veterans, nurses , etc. They don't list that online though.

Came here today for my son's third grade field trip. It was rainy but everyone we interacted with was very nice. We didn't do that much stuff but we were on a limited time frame so that was understandable. The girls running the register at the gift shop were very lovely. My cashier was Katy both times I checked out and she was very nice and personable. Our cave guide was Mitchell and he was also wonderful. I do have to say that I was so glad that the laser show was no longer the book of Genesis from the Bible. As an atheist I did find it a little offensive in the past. I was sad that the tour wasn't as long as it was the last time I was there but the reasons behind it were easily understood why they no longer went to those places. My favorite part was the true dark at the start of the show. I will say that most of the things I saw to do seemed more aimed at older children so I probably won't be back until my youngest is around 7/8. But I have great memories of coming to the cave with my grandfather when I was younger and I'd love to bring all my children when they're older so we can also have those memories.

We went to visit the cavern. It was really cool! Our tour guide was Connor. He did a really good job! He was kind, funny, and knowledgeable! I would recommend this tour. Really cool, a great way to support the area, and an amazing site to see!

We went even though it was raining and still had a blast. Everyone was extremely friendly. Our tour guide Michael was very knowledgeable and funny. The laser and light show was so cool. We got the exclusive ticket with the meal it was expensive but worth it. We also did the nature quest that was an unexpected highlight of the day. Mrs Willow is such a sweet person. Definitely looking forward to going back again.

Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.

A few times we got woke up by a bite of two but most were gone or so we thought. We woke up to find the windows covered with them. We called again to ask for help and they sent down a housekeeper. After talking to a few employees we found out this has been an ongoing problem and that many people have cut their stay short. As I understand from what was said to me the management here is fully aware and wants to ignore the problem hoping it goes away instead of addressing it. This is a bad look for Alabama. If I travelled all the way here to stay in these lovely cabins and paid what we paid only to be swarmed by Asian Lady Beetles I would not recommend this beautiful park to anyone. It's not the bugs that give this a two. It's the attitude and lack of action by the management that got them that. The only reason the got a two is the cabin and park are beautiful.

The bridge will come into view the further you go back and believe me when I tell you it has seen better days. Quite frankly it appears to be in covered bridge hospice. While efforts have been made to renovate the bridge, it remains in a state of limbo since being condemned in the 1960's and sits inaccessible to the public without its approaches (ramps on each side that connect the bridge to the road). It is the second oldest surviving historic bridge in Alabama, but is in desperate need of maintenance and repair. You can visibly see the frame beginning to lean and looks as if a stiff wind would knock it completely over. The first of my many stops was here in Oxford. Coldwater Covered Bridge was built in 1850 and is located at Oxford Lake Park just behind the Oxford Civic Center. It was relocated here in 1990 from its original location (about 8 miles west) and spans a small creek created by the overflow water from Oxford Lake. The bridge is 63-feet long and uses a hybrid combination of the Multiple King Post and Town Lattice truss systems. At 165 years of age, it is the oldest surviving covered bridge in the state of Alabama. It is also known as Hughes Mill Covered Bridge due to its proximity to Hughes Saw & Lumber Mill when it was first built. Although the bridge was severely damaged in 1920, repairs made it possible to keep the bridge functional for vehicular traffic. It was eventually replaced in 1974 by a concrete bridge, then totally restored before being relocated to its current home. The park and bridge can actually be seen from Interstate 20 and only takes you out of the way by a few minutes if you choose to stop here. Just take exit 185 for Hwy 21 (Oxford/Anniston) and go north to Recreation Road (currently there is a McDonald's on the corner). Follow it until you see the Civic Center and park on the lake side. Enjoy!
