The first big project I took on after moving into my house was to redo the kitchen and the floors. The house was built in 2006 and had all the original builder-grade materials in place. I posted on an FB group asking for local contractor recommendations, in which I received numerous of them. I had three contractors to review the project and give me estimates. What happened after was disappointing to say the least. One couldn't follow the plan and actually did a design that completely walled in my kitchen with the only access to it being from an outside door (for real). Another was so generic in their estimation that it was in no way reflective of the work that needed to be done. The third contractor after spending 1.5 hours in my house taking measurements and pictures and talking through my vision.... never even sent an estimate. I decided that I would also start pricing some of the work I wanted done myself as the two estimates that came in were outrageous. I first started by visiting several local countertop manufacturers/installers and got a wide range in pricing for the same product, a plain white quartz countertop. I mean thousands of dollars in difference. My last stop was at Majestic Countertops where John Cruz was there to greet me and talk through what I wanted, and on the first visit John took control of the project owned and delivered. John's pricing was well below his competitors. But on top of that he had a deep bench of local contractors, that he was able to call on to pull the project together. Cabinet installers, tile floor demolition and installation, carpenters for new molding, painters, plumbers and electricians. All who he project managed and jumped when he called. I don't know if you have ever had issues getting a contractor to show up (I have) but that was never an issue. I told John that I wanted the project done in less than 8 weeks. And he drove it to completion. He constantly checked in and made personal on-site visits to check on quality and pace and wasn't afraid to call the contractor out on anything he didn't feel was up to the level he expected. He also worked with me on pricing for tile and cabinets getting me better pricing then I was able to get myself from other wholesalers and retailers. Majetic Countertops is a family run business, and they treat you as if you were part of their family when they take on a project.
