Okay, this is a long one as I feel it's needed to actually feel the five star experience! Majestic Mountain Inn, so cute! Family and I decided to take a night trip to Payson. Booked the room hours before arrival with only past experiences guiding my choices. We booked a queen room with two queen beds, photos showed a fireplace as well... I mean winter in Payson Az demands a fireplace... right? Done... booked... on our way. We arrived just before dinner. Once we pulled up, you see a quaint looking mountain hotel escape with one large two story building and several connecting little cottage looking rooms. The manager who checked us in (please forgive me for forgetting his name) had been very accommodating with our requests for more blankets and a lower level room. He also recommended the local pizza restaurant for dinner within walking distance. Our room was adorable and large! Two queen beds, a couch, fireplace and large vanity area with plenty of space for four. The beds were so comfortable and with the fireplace only, left us with a very cozy evening. Almost felt like you were in a secluded cabin in the woods. Also, I won't forget to mention, breakfast was included! Eggs, sausage, bacon, waffles, biscuits, and gravy... so much to choose from. My husband has decided that this will be our "go-to" in Payson from now on. Thanks Majestic Mountain Inn for making our adventure more memorable! See you next time! A standard room was reserved Sunday for the same day. However, we were not notified the property was having water heater issues. There was no hot water on the "standard rooms" and when I elevated the concern, i was asked if we brought it up the same day. So if i didn't elevate the matter they would never credit me the whole 20%. So if you want a running hot water and the most this place can do is 20%, (which is unheard of) then i would reserve elsewhere. read more

Room: toilet ran every 2 -3 minutes, turned water to it off nights to avoid listening to it; cold water handle on bathroom sink comes off in your hands if not careful - not attached; rug needs repair by bed - bunched up; various holes in wall where items were once attached; battery in smoke alarm hanging off side of alarm; refrigerator was on and door open when we got there - needed to wipe up water. Pool needed cleaning. Bugs come in around front door - needs weather stripping or something. Breakfast - fair - runs out of certain items if you aren't there quickly once open. Certainly not worth the $441.00 for the 2 nights we were there. Will not return, unfortunately, because it is in a nice area. So very disappointed. The grounds were pretty, we enjoyed the back patio; however, the bbq area was filthy, the rooms were not clean. The sheets were not smooth, the towels are rough in texture. The bed was comfortable. The pool was not clean and had lots of leaves on the bottom. Not well maintained. Has algae on the sides. The bathroom toilet in our room was dirty along the knob that is at the base. Quiet outside. HORRIBLE BAIT AND SWITCH. Fake advertising! They took out ALL of the fireplaces! No one told us when we booked! I'm sure this was to save money on propane and maybe on insurance, too. But they still charge FULL RATE! About the most expensive room in Payson. We are paying over $200 per night. Over $400 this weekend. Why not pass on a little bit of the savings? They need to be HONEST in their advertising and website. This is NOT okay. In the big hole - where the fireplace USED to be - they placed a portable electric heater that has FAKE logs and a glowing light. It blows out a little heat, but not enough to heat in the winter. There's is an under window unit for more heat, but it is NOT CHARMING. We're here for our anniversary. I would not recommend this place if you want romance. It has totally lost the allure that has had us coming back here for 30 + years. Even though the rooms are getting run down, it is still a good location with a decent breakfast. (We'll see tomorrow). The pics made this look really nice so we splurged and got a deluxe room. The fireplace was electric and glowed but not like a real fireplace. The floor was a bit grungy around the edges and the wall had been patched in some areas but not repainted. The biggest disappointment was that it took FOREVER to get any hot water. I wanted a bath and I almost gave up when it finally got hot. The next morning my husband finally gave up and skipped his shower because he felt bad wasting water for about 5 or more minutes waiting for hot water which never came. It was so cute on the outside, like a little cabin. Inside was super clean, we had a King size bed, pretty comfortable. I loved we had a back door as well as the parking lot door as we had my little dog with us and we could go right out to grassy area with trees and a little patio. I booked this room for our Anniversary. The fireplace was the main reason, for ambiance and romance. I was really disappointed! The fire place is not as promoted. It is electric and has only glowing logs. It had no glass covering the front and just barely resemble a crackling fireplace. We couldn't find any instructions on how to start it so we went to the front desk to express our disappointment. We were told there was a small remote somewhere in the room that turns it on. No comments on the glass missing in the front, no offer to put us in a different room. The rest of the room was really nice and looked the way it was presented. If a fireplace is what you are looking for, this is not the romantic setting they describe. I would not book here again for any special occasion. read more

Our room at this hotel had all the basics covered--fridge, microwave, two queen beds, coffee maker, hair dryer, etc. The rooms had been updated, but some things just didn't look fresh. Not all the lights worked, the electrical outlets were loose, just little things like that. If we come again, we may upgrade to a better room, as they have lots of other options. The breakfast was good with several protein options, as well as the normal, bread, waffle things. We had a door out to the back with chairs to sit and relax. They had some grills that people could use. The pool looked very nice and felt warm to the touch, although we didn't ever use it. read more

This place is great! I was told it has "new owners". We have coming to Payson for a very long time. We travel with dogs. This is the first time we stayed here and this will be our go to place for now! It's clean, the employees our super friendly, helpful and pleasant. The cleaning staff is amazing. Our room was cleaned everyday as we requested the exact same way every time. (Which is a big deal for us) none of our stuff was touched! Unlike some other place in town! There's plenty of area to walk your dogs and the poop is cleaned up! We pickup after ours! The breakfast has a great variety from coffee to the foods! And the lady in charge is on the ball and super nice. The only thing I would have liked was an extra chair in our room. But, that's a nit pick! Lol the price with dogs was very fair and I will recommend to others. On a side note this hotel is exactly 1 hour and 9 minutes from the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale! Super convenient! read more

Our stay here would have been fine if we could have taken a shower (kinda basic); however, after both my partner and I spent a good half hour trying to make it work, having called the office (no one picked up), we gave up, as we had to hit the road. And it would have been nice if the nasty carpet stains had been tended to., given that this was supposed to be a super deluxe room (which the manager claimed gets extra attention). It took a week to reach the manager. When we finally did, she was curt and argumentative. When asked if we could get money back for the lack of such a basic amenity, she said any reimbursement was at the sole discretion of the owner, and would definitely not amount to more than $12. (Yes, I can see why only the owner could sign off on such a big reimbursement- LOL!) I wished her a good day and assured her we wouldn't be back. I hope future guests have better luck getting what they pay for. It was not a cheap stay. read more

My sister and I stayed here last October, when we travel to see our other sister. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The hotel seems a little older. I splurged and got the nicer room with the fireplace. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to unseen circumstances. The front staff office was great upon check-in, and when I had to go talk to them about having to leave the hotel early and hoping to not be able to be charged for the nights I did not stay, I was dreading that conversation. The nice front office clerk directed me to speak with the manager. I do not recall her name right now. She was incredibly understanding, and even went to the trouble of contacting Expedia to coordinate with them so that I would not be charged for the remainder of the nights I would not be there. I don't believe this would've happened with a big hotel chain, they would have told me, "you are out of luck and we're not refunding you". I deeply appreciate the kindness of the manager for charging me only for the night that I stayed, and refunding me the money for the remainder of the nights that I was unable to stay. Customer Service is tops in my opinion, and it is hard to find excellent customer service these days. If I'm ever coming this way again Majestic Mountain Inn we have my business 100%. They are ethical, the place is beautiful, and it is a clean hotel, where you can relax, rest, and enjoy mountainous Arizona. God bless them for helping me when I needed help. Do not stay here!! Rooms are extremely dated, in bad conditions, and I almost died in one of their in room hot tubs. Very dangerous, and no one takes accountability for their defective products. The drain in the hot tub sucked me in and I could not get out. It was pulling me in from my back and butt area like a sunction cup. It was like a magnetic feel and I couldn't pull my body out. Fortunately my boyfriend jumped in when he heard me screaming and managed to pull me out. I notified the front desk and there was not even an apology. They claimed they would have a maintenance guy check out the room, but that was never done. I asked to speak to the manager and she took 3 days to return my call. When she finally called me back (Deb) she apologized and said she was big on accountability, for me to please give her a day to speak to the owner. The next day she called me back and said a maintenance person checked out the hot tub and there were no issues like I had experienced. That in the 18 months she has worked there, there hasn't been any issue like this. She offered me a 20% off discount for my stay. How insulting is that? I nearly die in your hot tub and you offer me a 20% discount? Obviously the safety of your customers is not top priority. I had to also see a Doctor for my injuries on my own. No offer to pay for me to be checked out. Please do not stay at this inn!! It is not safe. I am seeking legal help currently for what happened and I will be posting the pictures soon here of my injuries. My back was extremely injured. Red swelling and bruising. I still have back pain from the accident in Mountain Inn's whirlpool tub. I am posting this for everyone's safety. This establishment obviously does not care anything about their customers. But I will make sure everyone knows what happened to me here and hopefully prevent anyone else from experiencing the terrifying experience that I had while staying here. read more

It's a good idea to read this before you book your hotel stay! Don't waste your money here. This place has turned into a dump. You're better off at a Motel 6! At least you get what you pay for! We spent 350.00 to stay here one night in a King size luxury room with hot tub, fireplace, etc! The works we thought We thought we'd have a great vacation at this price. They got us checked in late by almost 2 hours so the drinks got hot and food we brought couldn't get into the fridge so it went bad. When we finally got into our room, My husband laid on the bed and it almost looked like someone had cut their hair on the bed. He was immediately grossed out. We went back to the front office to let them know and they dropped off clean sheets fairly quickly and we had to put them on ourselves. The microwave and the fireplace did not work. The faucet to our spa tub looked as if it was going to fall off. Our bathroom sink was clogged so you couldn't run the water for very long as it took an extremely long time to drain. The pool was closed because they choose to service and clean it during the times it's posted to be open to customers which I thought was silly. The TV is really small for the distance is it from the bed. The bed is pretty uncomfortable, and everything in there is pretty dirty, an outdated. The floors are absolutely disgusting both on tile areas and on the carpeted areas. My white socks turned Black on the bottoms. It's Very difficult to find a plug to charge a phone or anything that you bring. There were bugs in the room, and everything was really dusty and dirty, with dead bugs in the windows. The fridge was so small that hardly anything fit. The worst part of it all is the customer service and care that you get when you let them know all the things wrong, broken, dirty, and disgusting in the room. They advertise for luxury upgrades, but you can't use them in your room, if they don't have these luxury's, I don't believe they should be charging you for the extra. We've stayed here multiple times before and it wasn't this bad, but this will be the last time and I hope everybody will read this and look for alternative sleeping arrangements! Not a lot of choices up there. Average middle class types of room. We were told it was a full house. Our room had air-conditioning, but it turned on every 15 minutes and was SO LOUD when it kicked on, sleep was never had. The next morning, from our one night stay (there is NO WAY we would stay in that room another night), I exhaustedly checked out. I spoke of the disruption but was told the manger would get back to me the next day. I reached out twice and was never responded to. That disrespect CERTAINLY says they don't care and therefore, I would never stay here again. read more

Jennifer at the front desk is absolutely a nightmare!! I was in for a small issue, they charged me 4 times of $216.60 and instead of that, it should be free stay. We had a coupon for 2 free nights and we only stayed for that 2 nights. She was roiling eyes on me & breaking a stapler on the table super loud & using cursing words. I was being polite the whole time and constantly saying "thank you" to her but she ignores me. Now I can only await till contact the manager again for my refund and the most important, Jennifer needs to get fired! VERY upsetting morning!! Other than the awful front desk, we love the hotel itself, nice cozy cabin style room with jacuzzi & pet friendly. That's only why Im giving 3 stars. read more

Such a great location but not a nice place. Paid $370 for a luxury king with spa. The room was really dark with old gold brocade curtains on the window and door to the patio. The bed was lumpy; I woke up with a backache. Coffee pot was really dirty. The breakfast was questionable so we went across the parking lot to Tinys. Some kind of round discs that looked like eggs, bacon and waffles that you make yourself. The pool was nice and chilly in the 90 degree weather but the surface was crumbling and there were no towels. Staying at a beautiful Inn, at Payson, AZ. Located in the mountains, very serene and peaceful. Covered in trees and walking paths. The rooms are very nice and cozy. The beds allow yourself to melt into them, so comfortable. Has a back door that has a small patio with chairs and table (first floor only) They have even more amazing rooms with Jacuzzi's inside. Very quiet. They offer a hot breakfast, not so good. Other then waffles, not much else is good. Cereal and oatmeal are other options. They have a heated pool, which was closed. Highly disappointed there, since it is quite warm. Payson is a small rural town. It has all the conveniences small shopping area's, wonderful dining, etc. We ate at Fargo's steakhouse, which was within walking distance. It was fabulous! The forest is beautiful here, plenty of hiking. Rim Lakes are located nearby. You can also find fishing, horseback riding, and camping. I gave 3 stars as overall experience. The staff is 5 star, rooms are 4 (hand held shower heads would be great) they do need safety bars in showers. Hot breakfast, gave 2 stars, was a huge disappointment, patty eggs and patty sausage (gross) plus hot waffles were offered. Along with cereal, oatmeal, toast items bagels, English muffins, of course there is coffee and orange juice. Finally mid May, which is warm here, their heated pool was closed! Zero stars here, extremely disappointed! I'm reediting my review. Having not wanting to be a Karen, and complain, I didn't say anything. However I needed relief as I am disabled and live with chronic pain. I let staff know I needed a jacuzzi room since the pool was closed. As I stated before the staff is 5 stars. They were able to get me a jacuzzi room without notice! I'm now thankfully, sitting in a jacuzzi getting much relief! Thank you! read more

However, the beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable, the door seals are not tight around to doors a let a lot of light and noise in through the door and finally the black out blinds let in a lot of light because the air until blows the curtains up. It doesn't look like much when you pull in and I was wondering what we were walking into... I was so surprised. We upgraded to a jacuzzi room. It's like 1980 meets 2010. We were in the little individual cabin rooms and while attached to your neighbor, you hear nothing. You can keep the fan on all night for even more noise reduction. We were here at 30 degrees with snow in the parking lot, but the room was cool, not cold. Actually the perfect temp for sleeping. There was a fireplace for more warmth but we didn't need it. No Red Hot Moments here. The jacuzzi rooms are large and the wifi is so easy to use. We arrived after midnight and check in was easy. The breakfast was generic, but the employees are nice. There is a negative side. We walked into our room and it reeked of weed. Seriously permanently imbedded. There is a pretty steep fee for smoking so why didn't they use that for cleaning? However when checking in after midnight on a Friday night we couldn't be choosy. When I spoke to the front desk in the morning they said it had been sprayed 3x but to no avail. They lost a star for even thinking about renting rooms like that. read more

I rarely post reviews but this one I think it is necessary for people looking for a place to stay in Payson. We were very disappointed in Majestic Mountain, Inn. My husband remarked that it was a room with a fireplace, but really a motel six. There was no Kleenex in the Kleenex holder, when we sat on the upholstered furniture dust flew up. When we arrived and entered our room, we found an envelope on the bed with a note."Tips are appreciated." When we went to wash our hands we noticed there was none of normal amenities like soap, shampoo, or lotion. Shampoo isn't a problem because we normally bring our own. We had to go to the office to get them. The next morning we went to take a shower, and noticed there was no shower curtain. Guess I should have noticed it the night before. MMI has a reputation of being the most prestigious and luxurious hotel around. Inside a very, VERY small podunk town called Payson. That makes this place very difficult for me to rate, considering the number of anomalies and missteps I encountered. However, it was a surprisingly nice hotel. In order to give a fair and accurate review, I have to review it within the limitations of its surroundings and competitors. In short, Majestic is about the most a person could possibly expect to get as "top of the line" when visiting a modestly quaint and simple town such as this. That's why I chose this hotel really. Literally every other hotel in the area either didn't meet up to my specific requirements (given I had a family of 4 with me) or didn't rank above 3 stars according to other Yelp reviews. So you walk into Majestic and it looks somewhat reminiscent of a log cabin type feel. Very woodsy, rustic...almost puts you in the mood for camping (even though I don't do that). That said, we can move onto the rooms. The double queen size bed with fireplace attached was...a lot smaller than the cleverly angled pictures suggested. Seriously, there wasn't even space for a work desk; which is bizarre because I've been to HUNDREDS of hotels in my life and just about all of them had a work desk inside. Including the single queen sized bed rooms. Majestic is literally only the second hotel I have ever seen to not have a computer desk station in it. Oh well, whatever. I came here to visit a friend, not surf the web, right? About that Internet connection though.. It was slow. Too slow to call it "high speed" really. We're talking like 3MBps. Somehow this was just barely fast enough to stream YouTube and Netflix though, so it wasn't completely terrible. One thing I found impressive was the individual modems dedicated to each room. You connect to their complimentary WiFi by the signal which corresponds with your room number. A very nice touch and honestly the first time I've ever seen that executed so well in a hotel. Oddly enough however, there was ostensibly no free WiFi in the breakfast lounge. Like, is there ANY reason for this?? As far as the room itself, everything was clean, the beds were as comfy as any other hotel I've been in, and once I discovered the surreptitiously hidden instructions on how to operate the fireplace (behind the friggin lamps of all places), it was surprisingly effective at keeping the room comfortably heated. And it was temperature controlled. So it didn't need to be constantly burning throughout the night. This thing was so effective, there was almost no need to run the conventional heat via vent. Came in real handy on those 19 degree nights. Now, let's talk about this hot breakfast of theirs real quick. Because I almost had to resist bursting out laughing when they advertised it so proudly. Most places that do this serve a rather dubious execution of said breakfast. And this one was...strictly by-the-numbers. I don't really know how else to describe it. But it definitely didn't fit with the rest of the decorum of this place. The fact that I could get a better hot breakfast at the Holiday Inn is quite embarrassing really. The eggs were fake as all hell, the hashbrowns were dry overcooked on the outside, the selection was limited (but what hotel without a breakfast bar isn't?), and the coffee was weak as sh!t. I realize I can be a pompous ass when it comes to hotel breakfast. But c'mon! How hard would it be for them to make REAL eggs? *sigh* One other really strange anomaly I should mention was the fact that the hotel lobby only gave their guests one key. ONE! Now, usually the standard is a minimum of two. But for reasons I'll never understand, they said they were only allowed to give guests one key because they were "running low". Okay? WTF kind of hotel runs out of magnetic plastic cards for keys? Is there a black market for thieves desperately seeking plastic key cards?? Oh well, whatever. But as stated, this was the absolute best hotel I could have possibly expected for a town like Payson. And frankly, if I were to revisit Payson, I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere other than the Majestic. My recommendation is: if you have the cash to drive and visit this remote part of Arizona, you might as well pony up the extra mula and spend it at Majestic. I doubt you'll have a better experience anywhere else in the immediate area. In the scheme of things, I'm giving Majestic Mountain Inn 4 cozy fireplace heated bedrooms out of 5. read more

I keep wanting to like this place, I really do. The in room jacuzzi tub will mask a lot of sins. To be fair I'm not sure they did anything wrong. We may just be having bad luck here with it only being their fault half of the time. This time the room next to me checked in with dogs. The owners left the dogs in their room that morning to go God knows where and the dogs began incessantly barking, waking us up. I rapped on the door, called the front office, the office called them... the dogs were still barking while my less than considerate neighbors were nowhere to be found. I'd say the only thing the hotel could do differently in this case is to make a clear policy that if your dogs are in your room, you need to be as well. An aside: if you are vacationing with dogs, don't be a jerk. Some people are trying to sleep in, relax, take a break from loud neighbors, and have a nice time. Don't be THAT guy. read more

We have stayed here for years and never had issues, recently its changed management and what a nightmare our stay was. Checked in, 1st room had broken tv, lifted rugs at base of bed, tripping hazard, spa tub was gross call front desk and they moved us, 2nd room got settled in , turn fireplace on smelled gas called front desk RUDE manager PATTIE recommends not to run fireplace and stay in that room, what a joke- 3rd room and (3 hrs later ) we settle in , spa is filthy room smells, bed was like sleeping on a dumpster mattress and they made zero accommodations and charged us even more ( $100 ) for the 3rd room, they waited till we were out of town to charge our card. Pattie and the new owners have ruined a once very awesome place to stay.
