My friend recommended that I go here for a monthly facial special and I am so happy I did! I consider myself fortunate to have nice skin but sometimes it needs a little exfoliation and love. Makana Esthetics has an easy website to use in order to find the service you would like, however a downfall for me is that you can't book online...you have to call. I don't like talking on the phone and having somebody rummage through times and days that they have availability. Anyways, if you're booking a monthly special, be sure to say it on the phone and when you arrive for your appointment. It's in a building right off Nimitz with tons of free parking. Overall, it was a great experience, but I wish the booking was easier and I wish they were on time. They took me about 15-20 min after my appt time and it took a lot longer than a normal facial. After a lovely breakfast and feeling contempt Nadine C came up with an idea for a facial and knew the exact place and gave them a call to find out that they had spots immediately woohoo!!! Located in Nā Lama Kukui which is found right off Nimitz Hwy just before City Mill which is a super convenient location with lot of free parking just steps away from the entrance of the building you'll find them on the ground floor all the way in the back. Walking in they have a lovely calm vibe and since it was my first time I had to fill out form all simple and easy basic informations and as we were booked our session I looked online for the various facials and "Pumpkin" seems to be the one that spoke to me not since it's officially pumpkin season (woohoo!) but it targets the areas I was interested in. Let me tell you the esthetician was great she explained everything and the pumpkin facial smelled just absolutely wooooonderful! Aaaahhhhhh...let me tell you any type of self cafe is important and this was very much needed as I walked out feeling so refreshed. I just wished that they have a place for you to unwind but it's basically just rooms for services, they don't even have a waiting room just a couple of chairs outside. A couple coworkers invited me to a mini spa day near our office because I was in need of a little decompressing. We booked three appointments during the same hour so we could go together and try their monthly specials. I opted for a Vitamin C facial. The student who helped me was very sweet, asking about my skin concerns, and walking me through what she would be doing. I left the session feeling refreshed but I did have a lot of leftover mask bits throughout my face and hairline. Keep in mind that these are students, and there may be hiccups along the way, but that's how they learn. Patience and kindness goes a long way! I've been searching for a reasonably priced esthetician for some time now. Here on the island there's so many choices. After searching help and many phone calls, I felt comfortable going to Makana Esthetics Wellness Academy. Only Con: The front desk lady is not friendly at all especially if you're the 1st person new customers come into contact with. The Pros: The Academy is located on 560 N. Nimitz Hwy. Just past Ross and before you get to the corner of City Mill. Very bright and spacious establishment. My esthetician's name is Kamesha. Kamesha came out to discuss with me my facial concerns and my desired outcome for todays visit. I was really shocked that the price in person was much cheaper than quoted over the phone. Apparently, I made it in time for the new monthly special. Today applied the Camomile Facial. When I entered the room, I was given a terry robe option to cover up in. I went to lay on the table and noticed that it was warm. 5 !!! Every miniute of this facial was so soothing and relaxing that I drifted off to sleep. Kamesha is extremely well trained. Calming Voice and gentle hands. As well as knowledgeable about my skin type. What remedy is available for my acne. The steam & hot towels she used to cleanse after each peel brought life back into my skin. Apparently, my skin is very dehydrated. I purchased a "Water Drench Cloud SPF" product to help with this area. As well as a few eye masks to assist with the puffiness Aka bags under my eyes. I must honestly say that my face felt lighter, brighter and tighter. I will be back in a month to allow Kamesha to apply my oxygen facial. read more

It's been a few years since I've been here but the students are just as professional as I remember. I saw that they were having a flash sale for papaya enzyme facials on Instagram so I booked my appointment. I advise coming 15 minutes early to fill out the forms, do your temperature check and use the bathroom which is located out side of the academy. There's plenty of free parking, some cute restaurants and small shops in the complex. Here's some interesting things to remember: 1. They run flash sales and specials on Instagram so follow them to be in the know. 2. They will do a temperature check when you arrive and ask the usual covid/travel questions. 3. They provide a wrap around towel so you can change your top. 4. Gratuity envelopes are provided so you can tip your student. It's really a great deal! read more

I've been here twice so far. The first visit I had a Makana facial and back facial. The second time I got the papaya facial with ultrasonic scrubber and both visits had been amazing so far. During my second visit, I had Ilihia and she was very sweet, friendly, and knowledgeable on the facial I was receiving. Ilihia took the time to get to me during my visit which made it feel more welcoming. She also had great recommendations on what my facials I should try to achieve my skin care goals. Also, she was able to recommend me a couple of serums that would help with discoloration. It was a bit pricey but definitely worth trying. My wife normally gets professional facials done at spas but she decided to support local and try out Makana for a facial and because our good friends have daughters who known people who attended this academy. I will say that the place is nice but that's the only "good" thing I can actually say. My wife got her facial done by Amber and while my wife was expecting good hospitality , she felt disrespected. Amber was very rude towards my wife and seemed to have been rushing the process. I get these young ladies are students and maybe they're nervous and anxious because they are just stepping into the industry , but as an instructor you should be very cautious of who you allow in this school let alone if people like Amber will be working as a professional in the real world. Needless to say , it's unlikely that my wife will return .. maybe if she encounters a good esthetician in training next time. I really enjoy coming here for my monthly facials & sometimes my back facials. The girls here are still learning & getting their work in, but they're amazing! I haven't had a student who hasn't done a great job yet. They're very thorough and they explain step by step what their process is. I like that they do a skin analysis every time I go, so it makes me feel good when I hear my skin is nice & healthy. They give tips on how to treat your face, & have some products in hand too. Every month they have specials, so just stay updated with their social media on that. Cash tip is what they accept. Definitely planning for my next facial! read more
