Animal Alliance NJ - We had such a great experience with the Animal Alliance of New Jersey. So excited to welcome Romi to our family!!

I never write reviews however my experience with Diane and Annie of Animal Alliance was so…read moreexceptional that it deserves acknowledgement. On Wednesday June 16, I submitted an application for adoption of a wonderful little dog, which I then supplemented with information in an email and phone call to their office. I read all of their online information so I understood there is a review and approval process, that they review phone calls once a day, and that there is also a process of going to the facility itself by appointment only and waiting outside until it is the appointed time due to Covid. I did not expect an immediate response. On Saturday June 19, Diane called me and I learned that the little dog that I was interested was already adopted. However Diane and I had a long discussion concerning the type of dog that I would be interested in. She shared that there were some new arrivals from the night before and would I consider coming in to see them at 3pm that afternoon. She shared that the Director - Annie, has a keen knack for matching rescues with individuals considering adoption. She then called me back to say that she spoke with Annie and that she was looking forward to meeting me. I arrived on time for my scheduled appointed and waited in my car until Annie came for me and she took me to the portico and said she would return with the first little rescue for me to consider. She brought me little Celia, she gave us time to acquaint ourselves, and it was a perfect fit. Celia chose me, she settled down on my lap, it was a wonderful experience. There was no need to see another prospective little dog, I adopted Celia. Working within rescue is very difficult, animals arrive from a wide range of backgrounds and needs, all of which is time consuming to process and care for as is working with those that may want to either board or adopt. Both Diane and Annie are very caring and competent professional women who care deeply for these animals and for those interested in them. Little Celia is doing just fine, she has settled down and is extremely happy. She is house-trained and has the most wonderful personality. I had no prior experience with either Diane or Annie, I highly recommend them to guide you in the process, and further suggest that if you are unable to board or adopt a rescue from them to please consider donating to Animal Alliance so that they can continue to save other animals in need.

Adoption events were always great to attend and everyone was always warm and welcoming and you can clearly tell the volunteers are there to help the dogs get adopted. The volunteers really made Animal Alliance a positive experience and are really the only reason I am giving the shelter 2 stars. They are truly trying to help the animals there get adopted. The owner Annie, however, is incredibly rude. I never had a good interaction with her. No one is allowed inside the shelter and she will yell at you to move away from the door if you get too close. One of the dogs I had fostered ended up needing medicine and when I brought him to the shelter she was rude and dismissive. The puppy did eventually get medicine he needed. From other volunteers, I have heard stories about Annie preventing dogs from getting adopted out and signs of abuse towards the dogs. Overall, if you ever go to Animal Alliance, I hope you never meet her. The shelter itself, while no one is allowed inside, smells AWFUL. Any time the door opens, there is a smell that comes out and it's disgusting. I would not be surprised if the conditions of the shelter are not very cleanly. The smell sticks to any person or dog they bring out. I once met a potential foster dog and it was brought outside for me to meet and the dog smelled like feces and I had to cover my nose. Both of the dogs I ended up fostering went straight into the bath when I got them because the smell was too strong.

MatchDog Rescue has given me and my bf our first love, Hewitt…read more Before attending the event in Atco, we were given a phone call with a proper run down on how the event would work so we were not confused when we got there. They are extremely communicative, and the events are usually held on Saturdays, but the transport that was bringing the dogs in had troubles and the event ultimately had to be moved to Sunday. I had my phone call at about 11:15 and about 1 PM hours later I was informed about the date change. It is not a typical adoption shelter that I have been to in the past. At the event, there is a ticket system, as in, the earlier you get there the earlier you will be called. While you wait you mingle with the volunteers and the dogs. You get a vibe on which dog feels like the best fit for you. However, be mindful that the crew with MatchDog Rescue does their due diligence and wants the best for EVERY SINGLE DOG. We went to the event with a very specific dog in mind. One that was on the medium/large end. However, the staff that reviewed our application and lifestyle, let us know that the dog might not be the best fit for us in terms of training and size of our home. While it was disappointing to hear, we knew at heart we wanted what was best for the dog and us. As mentioned before there is a mingling period while waiting to be called on by staff. During this period you can meet dogs of all ages, sizes, and all types OUTSIDE of dog cages. We had met several different dogs during this period, just to name a few that I can remember, Nevada, Hewitt, Cassidy, Dukie, and Garret. We bonded with several dogs early on, but with our hearts set on a specific dog, we just enjoyed their presence. However, after being informed that the dog we had our hearts set on was not a good fit for us, we knew which of the many dogs we met during the mingling period we wanted to go on a walk with. We asked if Hewitt was a good fit for us, confirmed he was, took him on a little stroll around the lot, and knew that our hearts were set on him. We went through the process of adopting him and each volunteer we worked with, remembered Hewitt and always told us how he was such a great dog and a cute little snippet or fun fact about Hewitt. There was never a doubt in my mind that Hewitt was not loved under their care. On our way out with Hewitt, the last volunteer that we worked with walked us to our car, ensuring that Hewitt was buckled in and safe and had their very loving and sad goodbyes with each other. Hewitt has been with us for about a week. We are a very calm, but active couple and Hewitt matches exactly that for us. When we are relaxing, he is relaxing. When we are running, Hewitt is right there running with us. It is not something that I considered when I was looking into adopting a dog, but I am extremely grateful the staff at MDR let us know before adopting a dog. If ever in the future I am looking for a second dog, there is no doubt in my mind that MDR will be the first adoption agency I look into.

Their volunteers coordinate with partner rescues in areas with an abundance of overcrowded, high-kill shelters. They travel to these areas, rescue and transport the pooches to New Jersey, where dedicated fosters await their arrival. The fosters nurture, care for and partner with veterinary professionals to ensure that the rescued pups are primed to thrive in their new "Furever" homes. I was impressed with their intake - we had a thorough conversation going through his checklist to get info about the cat to make sure her sitters/hosts would know specific details about the cat (how much I usually feed her, that she doesn't like being petted on the stomach, etc). At the end of the day it's just a cat and all I really cared about was making sure she had food and water and was safe, but this was so much better than boarding her in a tiny cage or having a pet sitter stop by for just a few minutes a day. Knowing she would have a decent amount of space and regular human contact gave me the peace of mind to go on vacation and just not worry or think about her.

Based upon the booking screening, it was clear that the company is professional, well-run, and focused. They provide transportation for your pet to and from their boarding stay and even provide daily pictures of your pet via text. We were very happy with the arrangements until, in the middle of our vacation, we were told that our dog had an episode of weakness and was rushed to our vet whose information we provided at booking. Andrew stayed with our pet and transported him to the overnight Emergency vet for observation. Everything turned out fine and Andrew picked up our pet to finish his stay. Andrew went out of his way and not only did everything for our pet that we could have done, but he also kept us informed and comforted. The integrity, compassion, and dedication that PetsAreInn demonstrated during our time of deep concern helped us greatly and made us happy we chose a stay with a family in their home versus in a traditional pet kennel. Andrew at PetsAreInn was our pet's guardian angel, and we will look forward to using his service without hesitation going forward.

However, we were less than impressed as new guests upon arrival. The staff was not as welcoming and the expectation that was set while making the reservation fell pretty flat. We decided to try the resort one additional time because of the amount of positive reviews, but the second time also left us in disappointment. It was extremely difficult to get through to anyone when calling to check on our dogs. When making my reservation, I was told there would be communication about how our dogs were doing. This has not happened, so we tried to call, but the phones are not answered. I received no response to my voicemail or emails while I was traveling. The report cards that we received were duplicates even though our dogs have very different personalities. One of our dogs came home not feeling well, although his report card said he was "rambunctious". I hesitated before writing this very honest review because I may give the resort one additional opportunity to change my perspective. I have attached a copy of each duplicated report card that was received for my dogs as well as the email that was left without a response.
