I'm giving this "place" 3 stars because it is not fully established yet. There is definite potential however and I'll be back to update the review as their construction continues. At first I thought the idea sounded bizarre. Maybe because of it's location in a Home/Gift center, The LA Mart. As the building emptied out due to the economy floors and floors of space were left vacant. 2 floors have since been filled by CPS and now the 11th floor has become Maker City. I understand the need for the owners to fill space. As I walk through the halls it's always exciting to see what is just around the corner. I've seen artists vehemently painting, a clothing designer twirling her dresses and deer statues with riffle legs (pic included). I can appreciate all the creativity that is brewing on that floor and look forward to seeing it's full potential. read more

I have been a tenant of Maker City for the past 3 years. The reason I rented here was because they are managed by Premiere Business Centers and I have had very good business dealings with them in the past. This place is different than any other place I have rented in the past. Theresa and her crew are awesome. They are always on the floor working, making sure everything is running smoothly. The building is the old L A Mart which is great because it is a super close to Downtown (just South of the 10 and East of the 110) without all the hassles of gridlock traffic and armed robbery parking rates for your clients. The building in old and has issues (don't we all); but again the management of Maker City is right on top of the building maintenance making sure little problems don't become bigger ones. Another difference between this place and other PBC locations is that a staff member is here from early in the morning to late in the evening and sometimes on the weekends. This place is awesome!! Beautiful decorations on the wall when you get off the elevator, and really beautiful inspiring spaces when you walk around the corridors. The co-working area has a nice modern contemporary feel to it. It's pretty quiet. There is a cozy Kofi area with pastries to drink and eat at. The many offices here have a creative and super cool vibe about them. The leasing office is right off the elevator and they have super cool decorations and really nice people. Parking is usually $10 in the lot. read more

I've worked on this floor for almost 2 years now. It's an awesome vibe and totally a creative space! I love the building and its staff, they're all very nice, friendly, helpful, and personable. I love the chill-factor. Everyone is nice and open and helpful. It's a very neighborly community. The Atelier is beautiful and great for natural lighting. Our coffee shop (Kofi by Coffee) is a nice place to take a break from the office. and of course Kofi is the best! He's our barista, and he knows every single customer by name. It's an honor we get to work in his presence. The offices have an industrial feeling with high ceilings, white walls, exposed pipes, and concrete floors. They also have glass walls and doors which takes some getting used to. But you can cover them with that translucent window film if it's an issue. The wifi is ok, though on very busy days when large events are going on we tend to complain (only a few times a year). Stop by Alfalfa's suite. She's the absolute coolest! read more

This place has so much going on inside you'd never expect. Lots of great art, furniture show rooms, event spaces and a co working facility. Definitely in the middle of the next big thing/space in LA. Not just conceptually but also geographically. And check out the gigantic chair in the parking lot. Yeah, theres magic inside too! read more

I do not rent a space here (yet), but I finally got a full tour, after two missed tour appointments with them, and it is such a lovely, creative space that I recommend all fashion startups consider. As a fashion designer, you can rent a workstation daily or monthly, have access to industrial straight-stitch, serger and leather machine, a locker and have the perks of being around other designers! I personally have enough money to rent a storefront, but I am going to work here for a few months using their small office plan, just for the inspiration! The office allows me to sew, edit on my computer and use the industrial machines! I have the option to use the conference rooms for meetings and classes and the kitchen to store my vegan goodies! I am very excited to move in and be inspired! read more

As an entity, this place is perfect. The people who run the show are tops and the floor is packed with brilliant people. If you're an artist, producer, musician, or just want to work in a wonderful and supporting environment, this is the place. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars from me is because it's on the 11th floor and the service elevators do not operate late, so if you (like me) need to sometimes bring big things up to the office and it's off hours, it's not ideal. But they more than make up for that for it to be a concern. Also, TECH SHOP is coming here! read more

You can't help but feel inspired when roaming the halls of this place. It's an oasis of creative energy. When I visited during a recent event, I knew this is where I wanted to work. When you step off the elevator you are greeted by beautiful art installations. There's a media lab, free wifi, good people, eclectic collection of spaces and a supportive environment of creatives of all kinds. Looking forward to watching it evolve! read more

If you're passionate about Black & White photography, It's an unparalleled place for classes, workshops and Print Nights where you have access to LA's best darkroom! This place is great! The prices are fair and reasonable and the people there are very nice and easy to deal with. Had a tour before deciding to rent some space for a day and they were extremely accommodating in both instances! Were very willing to work with us on short notice and I have nothing but positive things to say about them and the space. Also, there's a great coffee stand there called Coffee by Kofi. I have used the Media Lab at Maker City LA on two occasions. The space has two large bays for shooting still and/or video photography. One is a permanent green screen stage. The space comes with a significant amount of grippage and lighting equipment. They can provide you with a complete list of this equipment. But wait there's more! There is also an audio recording studio, green room, break room and two edit bays with new macs loaded with the latest version of Final Cut. There is a parking lot and a freight elevator. Amazing space! We shot a 1/2 day on the green screen and it couldn't have been easier. The prices to rent the space are super reasonable already, and to top it off, they include lighting and other equipment. Their podcast studios are rad too if want to take it to the next level.
