This "church" used to be North Park Baptist Church that my family and friends attended for years and years until "Makers" came to share our building for whatever reason happened to their establishment and not only did they never leave they took over and changed everything about our loving beautiful nondenominational church where our amazing pastor Glenn and his beautiful wife Glenda lead us in service. Long story short 95% of our congregation left. Scattered. I would ordinarily give my negative opinions about Makers church but I'm really trying to be the good Christian my Pastor Glenn taught me to be so check it out for yourself. My life partner and I figured we try this church, as it seemed open to all humans regardless of differences. So unfortunately this was a bad experience and on Easter of all days smh. This church comes off like it wants diversity but it definitely doesn't celebrate it or welcome it. I'm a blk female (didn't dress feminine enough i guess smh)& my partner is white female so from the time we entered the premises even while leaving the members Stared at us like we were aliens or animals. This includes several "church officials" that were staring but also never even welcomed us. One official avoided us. But what took the cake for us was a male "usher" (he was slim, with a blonde man bun)who Went out of his way to welcome my wife who is White but wouldn't say one word to me while standing next to her and INFRONT of him. Absolutely disturbing &sad! Persue god organically and directly on your own. I've gain so much healing, & love in my heart spending time with god that this didn't even anger me. Even with the many social injustices happening and to have people at church live up to the negativity most people say keeps them away from it. This review is for other black Americans, diverse people & lgbtq as yet again a warning. You deserve to be treated right like everybody else& god loves you unconditionally. read more

When we were looking for a new Church home we knew what we were looking for but we weren't sure if we would find it. The instant we walked into Makers Church we knew we had found our new home. Everyone was genuinely friendly, sincere and no one was afraid to be themselves. The authenticity is really what stood out to us. The worship was heartfelt and honest and the messages each week were relatable. Our son was only six weeks old when we began attending and the Nursery team was just fantastic. We felt comfortable leaving him there knowing he was receiving great care while we were in service. Each and every person we have met that serves in Makers Kids is truly awesome! We have been in Church for quite some time and still leave each and every Sunday having learned something new. Every pastor on staff speaks on Sunday's which keeps things fresh and provides lots of different perspectives. My family and I absolutely love Makers Church. We moved to San Diego a little over two years ago and visited Makers (Mosaic SD at that time) with family friends. We immediately felt at home. Each week, we encounter God through worship and messages that speak directly to our hearts. With young children, we desire a church that prioritizes ministering to our kiddos. A little bit about me: I've "played church" my whole life and didn't get to encounter the true living God until recently. Makers was one of the reasons why. TL;DR Makers turns the stigmas of church on their head. They are a welcoming, kind, cool bunch you won't be disappointed to meet. If you're looking for a church, I don't doubt you'd find a good home here :) 4 reasons I love this church: 1) The Leadership. I have never met such a welcoming staff. Sometimes you step into a church intimidated by the "untouchable" nature of the Pastor. Other times, the Pastors seem to downright stare into your soul (hehe). Pastors Derrick, Marc, and Chalese are not those Pastors. They are regular people like you and me, using their gifts to drop wisdom and show love to their full extent. Their teaching is some of my favorite: I learn something new about the Word; I feel the heart of Jesus; I'm drawn to know and love Him and others more. I love how they use modern text to create comparisons to the Bible, too--specifically Marc. I'm a literature buff myself so I appreciate this! I've talked to these three outside of Sunday gatherings and they are as cool and kind as... well, regular people. And yet so loving. You can tell they really care for you and the whole Makers Family. Pastors Derrick, Marc, and Chalese are humble, intelligent, loving, warm, and so welcoming. 2) The Atmosphere. Speaking of welcoming, this church is shaped to make EVERYONE feel welcome. Christianity should not be about requiring people to check off boxes and "be good people" (we are only saved by grace through faith, not good works!), yet so many churches make Christians feel this way. Makers is not like that. They welcome you and meet you where you are, so you don't have to put up a front. Jesus met the most broken in their paths; He didn't require them to clean up their act first. Makers really walks out the heart of Jesus this way. 3) The Creativity! God was the original Creator and made us all in His image, so I believe we all have the power to create something. Whether that's making art or making an atmosphere more inviting, your gift is unique. Makers' is filled with Creatives overflowing with gifts, from the Worship team which saaangs every Sunday, to the spoken word delivered on stage, to the amazing videographers, to the Creative meet-ups they have, and more! And it's not like a pretentious creativity, moreso a celebration of the gifts given by our Maker. Even if you feel you don't have a gift I'm sure this church will draw something beautiful out of you, because that's who God is :) 4) Community and Community Outreach I know what it's like to attend churches and be hungry for community outreach. After all, Jesus tells us to love our neighbor! Makers leads the way in loving their neighbors. I got to meet people on the streets and shower them with prayers, kindness, and a care package with Makers. They are currently pushing sign-ups to help train refugees in job interviews. Their heart really is to help others. And, with community, Makers is really stepping up their game to make a pocket for everybody. Meetup groups in homes; Baptism day and hangout at the beach; Creative gathering in another home... they really are into solidifying community. read more

I was brand spankin' new to San Diego and didn't know a soul. I knew I wanted to find a church, but being the skeptic, I am, I was hesitant. One Sunday, I mustered up the courage to try out a church in Point Loma and was running late (per usual) and passed a ton of people outside in front of a pink building (makers when it was at PLM). I figured, what the heck. I'm late anyways, might as well pull in here and check this place out. I can't really tell you in a review all the feels I had during that first service at Makers, but I finally felt like I was safe. 9 Months later, Makers is becoming more like family everyday. It's just a bunch of misfits trying to figure life out together - my favorite. If you're looking for a perfect set list and cool lights, Makers is not the place and I'd like to keep it that way. Jesus is not impressed by our level of "perfection" but is drawn to the broken. The more aware we are of our brokenness and the more free we are to talk about it, the more He can work.   Just give it a shot. Come on Sunday! read more

I came to Mosaic after a nearly 5 year break from church in general. I had went to a few different churches and had been praying that wherever I was supposed to end up would be made clear to me. From the moment I stepped in the doors of Mosaic I was greeted with a hug and the place has been home ever since. This is an amazing church to live out your faith in- when you want to get involved there's no shortage of areas to help out at Mosaic. From the "Love our block" initiative Mosaic is doing to reach out to our neighbors on the street to the numerous outreaches, projects, and community groups, Mosaic is an amazing place to be. Derrick, Marc, and Chalese give some inspiring and deep messages, meant to help us really look at our lives, our goals, and help us focus on Jesus as the way, the truth, and the life. Love love love Mosaic! Highly recommended. My husband and I moved to San Diego just a few months ago knowing very few people. I had heard of Mosaic from a friend who moved to LA and attended the Mosaic campus there, and she loved it, so we decided to give the SD campus a try. It was the first church we tried out after moving here and while we were planning on looking into other churches as well, we knew it wasn't necessary for us after our first Sunday there. We were greeted so warmly and met a handful of amazing people our first visit. The message was honest, real and strongly based on scripture. We knew we wanted more! We've been attending church at Mosaic regularly since then, and we have found a wonderful community of people and always come home afterwards feeling inspired and humbled by the message. It is a young-ish group for the most part, 20s and 30-something's and young families, lots of creative types. This is exactly what we were hoping for, and have found a home here! read more

Mosaic is a great community feeling nondenominational church. They have a really diverse group and a modern feel. Everyone is nonjudgmental, welcoming and very personable. Though I have been an occasional member since summer of 2012, I never feel like a stranger or a disappointment. If I still lived in the area, I would be there every Sunday! For a long time, I would "church shop", critically analyzing which church was "best for me". Then one day a wise man spoke the Truth into my life that church is about the community I choose to commit to and invest in, not what I can "get out" of church. The next day, I decided to COMMIT to Makers, (at the time Mosaic). I still know this is one of my greatest decisions, even two years later! I am so grateful for the biblical Truth, and life application of all three of our pastors: Derrick, Marc and Chalese. I love how all three of our pastors have jobs in very different fields, demonstrating how our LIVING GOD works in their lives at work, in family, and in community. Even my dad who is critical of church and Christianity appreciated this when he visited last year!!!! Even if you are weary of God, Jesus, and church, this is a place for you!!! At the same time, Makers is a community who stands firm on its faith in Jesus Christ and believes in the power of living in relationship with God. My partner and I have been church-shopping for a Christ-centered and Christ-focused church in San Diego. I have been going to Mosaic for a year and a half. It is the first church I have ever called home. I found Mosaic after nearly a three year pause from my spiritual life. I tried numerous churches and struggled to feel at ease, until Mosaic. Mosaic operates with the belief that every person belongs and is welcome; no matter their story or where they come from. It is truly a place for community rooted in Christ. It embodies love in action; everyone is encouraged to get involved. I have been able to meet some of my closest friends through Mosaic. The worship is great - contemporary, but always moving - the messages challenging and inspiring with a rotation of speaking pastors, and I love that the staff are all bi-vocational or part-time. I have been a going to Mosaic for 3 1/2 years now. I can honestly say that it is like a second home - a place to feel welcomed and loved no matter where you are in life. I cannot say enough great things about this place! If you're looking for a community, this is a rare gem that accepts and loves everyone. Three years ago I came because I needed some solid people in my life and I've found some of my best friends here. Awesome worship. Great speakers. Fantastic kids ministry. Genuine people. Don't expect perfection- no church can meet all of your needs. Expect a place that will genuinely meet you where you're at and try to find a place for you if you are willing to actively be a part of the community. Local tip: show up early on a Sunday (7:30am) and just help us set up. Its open to anyone who wants to come eat breakfast and help get the space ready for the 9am and 12am services. It's a good way to serve and less intimidating way to get to know people than walking up to a crowd of strangers for my fellow introverts out there. A MUST: join a community group and stick with it! Not only will it shape you as a person to have deeper spiritual talks each week, you'll actually become a part of each other's lives and an integral part of this church.
