I wanted to have high hopes in this place but here we go. Hostess: upon arrival the hostess was friendly and immediately seated me. Ambiance: the restaurant is beautiful but very small so parties larger than 4, should be aware of tight seating. This was the case for two parties which we were crammed between. They had 5 people in their parties so the seating was odd and uncomfortable for those around them. Service: our waiter was overwhelmed. He had to manage four tables, our table of 2 being one, and at times that led to him putting in our orders late. It actually dampened the mood because when looking for service and not being able to see your waiter, that can frustrate a patron and it also robbed us of an authentic bottomless experience. Food: the food was simply "okay" my favorites on the menu were the Makers Nachos and the Chicken and Waffles. The waffles were so buttery and soft and the chicken was seasoned well. The nachos added a nice touch to the bottomless experience. My least favorites were the cornflake French toast and the Nashville chicken tenders. The French toast had a very odd flavor to it and the tenders were very chewy and not enjoyable. I didn't do bottomless drinks, actually didn't drink at all but they did have some fresh orange juice which I enjoyed. Would I return? Probably not. Why? I've been to this location a few times and it's always been a great experience. The menu has a good variety of dishes. I've tried the lamb chops, wings, burger, chicken sandwich, and chicken tenders. I was disappointed the last time I went because the tenders were small & dry and just a small scoop of slaw. I remember it being a bigger portion before so this may have been a one off situation. I met some girlfriends there for happy hour on a Thursday and it was wonderful! The food came out quickly. The staff was amazing. The ambience was fun and light and enjoyable! Everyone loved their dishes. I love, love, love, my mushroom quinoa. I loved my lamb chops. I had no complaints and my dog loved the bones afterwards! The downside is if you order to go, specifically the Parmesan garlic fries you may not get the same quantity that you do if you sit down and eat in the restaurant. Additionally, I posted a picture, but I don't think they put the fries on a napkin at all. I'm pretty sure my cholesterol went up 100 points just looking at all the grease in the bottom of my to go container. I don't know how that restaurant could send food out that way the french fries even looked really dark and filled with Greece compared to when I ordered them as a sit down. The hostess was wonderful and the hostess they took my order for it to go was also great. They seem to have a lot of fun working at that restaurant and the coworkers seem to get along really well which is a big plus to see the camaraderie and they do seem to help each other out. I love how it looks. I actually really liked this place and we went here on a whim! This was my first time here and my experience was really great! We sat at the bar and the bar tender gave us a lot of information before we decided what we were going to order for brunch and she told us all of the deals they had as well. She was very attentive and checked on us regularly. We ended up getting their bottomless mimosas and their bottomless brunch deal which was a great choice for three people! We got to pick three appetizers that kept coming out every time we finished and then we picked 3 entrees that kept coming out every time we finished. We got to share and taste everything amongst each other and we were full by the time we left! The mimosas were good as well and she kept them coming for sure! We did not have to keep asking her to fill our cups up because she was paying attention to it and refilled us every time we were done. We went around Christmas time and they have Christmas decor which was really nice as well, they even had Christmas themed drinks and cups as well! We recently dined at Makers Union in DC and had a mixed experience. The ambiance was fantastic--great atmosphere and definitely one of the highlights of our visit. For food, the poke bowl was the absolute standout and easily the best dish we ordered. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The salmon was also incredible and cooked perfectly. The shrimp Alfredo pasta was fresh and very good as well. The steak and fries were enjoyable, although the steak was slightly undercooked. The chicken sandwich was disappointing; the chicken wasn't breaded as expected and was a bit dry. Service was unfortunately mediocre. Nothing terrible, but it lacked the attentiveness and hospitality that would have elevated the overall experience. Overall, Makers Union has a great vibe and some excellent menu items, especially the poke bowl and salmon, but there is definitely room for improvement in both consistency and service. read more

I've given Makers Union two different tries, with the most recently time a week or two ago. This time the entrees my party and I had were much better than before. We had reservations for Saturday night and were seated quickly. The space is cute and has a sign with a mirror right at the front door which could be good for social media pictures. We ordered the Christmas themed drinks: Santa's forty mule, Grinch who stole makers, and the Merry margarita. All three were hits at our table, like everyone loved it. For appetizers, we got the spinach dip and wings (lemon garlic parm and buffalo) both were really good, but the spinach dip was the best. But definitely a small bowl of dip, wished it was bigger to match the amount of chips. For entrees, we got the fish and chips, steak and broccolini, and the frickin good fried chicken sandwich with the Nashville hot. While I didn't get a good picture of the entrees because we started eating quickly; but the fish and chips was a disappointment, it lacked flavor and was soggy. But the steak and fried chicken entrees were tasty and a hit at the table. No complaints at all so so good. The fries with Parmesan cheese and without were so good too. The Nashville hot added to the chicken sandwich made it so seasoned and good, something important is that it's not the saucy version of the Nashville hot. Instead, it was the oil version of the chicken which the chicken was cooked in, chef's kiss. One word. Brunch. Straight forward. $49 for all you can eat on the brunch menu. I usually don't go for buffet or bottomless style dining because I am more of a snacker and don't eat a lot of food at once but this experience was great. A close friend selected this location of Makers Union for her Bridal shower. It was a great choice! She coordinated the event with Ivan and he and the staff here did not disappoint! They were accomodating and made sure we had all we needed. I was the first to arrive and was able to find a parking spot in the front to unload the car with decorations. I was parked illegally, but the staff kept an eye on the car and even assisted me with unloading the materials. As soon as I got everything out, I moved my car to the parking garage and walked back to the restaurant. If you ever have to do this do not forget anything in your car. It was a trek and it was hot outside. I was able to decorate the tables pretty quickly with the items I was responsible for and they did not mind us not using their napkins. We selected the Family Style Unlimited Brunch. This was the best option! We were able to try so many of the menu items and each item was DELICIOUS! The place is decorated for the holidays! The lighting is great. The atmosphere is wonder. The bartender on staff was Orson. Great person. I ordered the fish n chips. The batter was still raw. Gooey and awful. I substituted their chili sweet potatoes for fry's. They were raw, still hard and inedible!! They were out of tarter sauce, after I protested fish with no tarter my waitress went next door and got a to go cup, To finish things off, my coleslaw was spoiled, far past its consume by date. fantastic spot for a group dinner by the Wharf! my friends and I stopped here for dinner while we were in the area. my two friends and I decided to split the tomahawk for two which was massive and cooked to perfection. it came with two sides, two salads and one dessert to share. the salads we were given was kind of weird? like it tasted like it was tossed in mayo and sugar almost with arugula. I don't know how else to describe it, but not my ideal salad choice. we didn't get to pick the salads either. the sides of sweet potatoes and green beans was delicious. green beans were super crunchy. sweet potatoes were kind of firm, but some were soft. might not have been cooked all the way for some of them. the steak was delicious and melt in yourouth deliciousness. we finished, but the bits near the end was just all fat and incredibly oily. so not very edible to say the least. our party was satisfied for sure. service was pretty prompt. there were some portions where we felt some people were a bit snippy, but our waitress was on top of it. One of the great happy hour spots at the Wharf. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. Drinks are also stellar. We ordered the fish tacos and nashville chicken which were hits. Service is why i had to take it down one star. Luckily we were not in a rush but the restaurant seems to staff one bartender who is responsible for happy hour and it's a lot on one person to handle the food and drink orders at a Friday night happy hour. Takeout Order Review: An overall OK experience at Makers Union. I thought I would have the opportunity to return again to give an updated review, however, I have not. My experience with their fish sandwich was mid tier. It wasn't bad, however, I did expect more from the seafood considering this is a pub located at The Wharf. I ate this fish sandwich immediately, outside in my car, so as far as temperature and quality is concerned I believe the experience would have been no different had I dined in. This seemed more like a corner deli fish sandwich and fries than a pub fish sandwich special. The customer service was OK and the interior design is beautiful. I love how the bar is situated in the center of the restaurant and the kitchen is visible from the dining room. If in the area I will definitely try again. Give them a try. read more

Great spot for a quick happy hour, the Circus Crush drink is definitely recommended for my sweet drink lovers! It was a great blend of pink lemonade and vodka, tasted like a twisted tea so not too much alcohol. The chargrilled old bay wings weren't my favorite--they were a bit too charred for my liking. I had a chance to taste the spinach dip which tasted pretty great, so I will definitely order next time! Honestly, Luis was the STAR of the show. If Jonathan and Jay are behind the bar, you're in for a great time -- hands down some of the best bartenders in the city. They're personable, attentive, and every drink comes out perfectly made. We came for brunch and did the bottomless food option (which was absolutely worth it). They also offer bottomless drinks, but we'll save that for next time. The Nitro Grey Goose espresso martini and Aperol spritz were both excellent. They even have Aperol spritz flights with flavors like guava and pineapple -- such a fun touch. We were given water and menus pretty quickly, however after sitting around after about 10 minutes another group (much larger) that came in after us were quickly taken care of leaving us waiting.
