First time visiting Makers Union and really enjoyed my experience. Went around lunchtime on a Monday so no wait. Waiter was attentive and I appreciated that he provided the wait time for the food to be delivered. The passion fruit nojito (alcohol free) was really good! I do wish it came in slight bigger glass considering it's not alcohol. The Moroccan style impossible kebabs was absolutely delicious! I really did not expect it to be so flavorful and delicious! I cleaned that plate! My party enjoyed their meals as well, thought the chicken was tender, well seasoned and fried, waffles were delicious and cooked just right. As for the fish, also friend well and juicy, and thought the coleslaw was excellent. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, great for pics. I'll definitely return! read more

fantastic spot for a group dinner by the Wharf! my friends and I stopped here for dinner while we were in the area. my two friends and I decided to split the tomahawk for two which was massive and cooked to perfection. it came with two sides, two salads and one dessert to share. the salads we were given was kind of weird? like it tasted like it was tossed in mayo and sugar almost with arugula. I don't know how else to describe it, but not my ideal salad choice. we didn't get to pick the salads either. the sides of sweet potatoes and green beans was delicious. green beans were super crunchy. sweet potatoes were kind of firm, but some were soft. might not have been cooked all the way for some of them. the steak was delicious and melt in yourouth deliciousness. we finished, but the bits near the end was just all fat and incredibly oily. so not very edible to say the least. our party was satisfied for sure. service was pretty prompt. there were some portions where we felt some people were a bit snippy, but our waitress was on top of it. So people have shared mixed reviews but I've been here twice. Once for black restaurant week and again yesterday and I feel as though the food is solid. Oysters were good, my friends wanted the chilled eggs but maybes it's only during brunch? I got steak frites and they got the pasta and both of us were pleased. Wanted to check out the happy hour and love their $6 special rail drinks during happy hour so got a little liquored up. We had an amazing bartender. Orson knows how to make the drinks sing (and not because of extra liquor). He makes very balanced and intentional cocktails. This place never disappoints. The food is incredible, the drinks are on point, and the staff truly make the experience. If Jonathan and Jay are behind the bar, you're in for a great time -- hands down some of the best bartenders in the city. They're personable, attentive, and every drink comes out perfectly made. We came for brunch and did the bottomless food option (which was absolutely worth it). They also offer bottomless drinks, but we'll save that for next time. The Nitro Grey Goose espresso martini and Aperol spritz were both excellent. They even have Aperol spritz flights with flavors like guava and pineapple -- such a fun touch. One of the great happy hour spots at the Wharf. The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. Drinks are also stellar. We ordered the fish tacos and nashville chicken which were hits. Service is why i had to take it down one star. Luckily we were not in a rush but the restaurant seems to staff one bartender who is responsible for happy hour and it's a lot on one person to handle the food and drink orders at a Friday night happy hour. Makers Union at The Wharf DC was great! This was my second time visiting for lunch, and it was just as good as the first. We had the pleasure of being served by Sherie again and let me tell you, her energy, spirit, and attentiveness are unmatched. She remembered all of our names in a large group and addressed us personally each time. So personable and professional! Sherie was handling multiple tables, including two large groups, helping at the bar, and even making cocktails, but you'd never know she had so much going on because she made the whole experience feel seamless and enjoyable. The food? Amazing. I didn't get a chance to capture photos (smh!), but everything we ordered was delicious: the kale salad, Brussels sprouts, artichoke dip, and nachos were all top-tier. And the sangria? A solid 10/10. I'll definitely be back to try brunch next time! I recently hosted a " Friendmas" at the establishment with my favorite girls and there was not one negative thought that came across our brunch experience . Our waitress was amazing (I forget her name) but brief description, dark complexion, beautiful, petite, and very well mannered). Illustrating politeness and well spoken is also a plus in my book because I'm often teased for talking proper a few times in my life being from California . Anyway, I digress .....the good was amazing especially the bacon (it won't disappoint). The ambience and the flowing of the options of unlimited mimosa . This is now one of my favorite brunch spots in Washington DC. Makers Union gives a " Pre Covid" vibe in D.C. and not going to lie, I miss old D.C. but anyway I will definitely dine at Makers Union again and bring others . Takeout Order Review: An overall OK experience at Makers Union. I thought I would have the opportunity to return again to give an updated review, however, I have not. My experience with their fish sandwich was mid tier. It wasn't bad, however, I did expect more from the seafood considering this is a pub located at The Wharf. I ate this fish sandwich immediately, outside in my car, so as far as temperature and quality is concerned I believe the experience would have been no different had I dined in. This seemed more like a corner deli fish sandwich and fries than a pub fish sandwich special. The customer service was OK and the interior design is beautiful. I love how the bar is situated in the center of the restaurant and the kitchen is visible from the dining room. If in the area I will definitely try again. Give them a try. read more

The menu is surprisingly loaded with good stuff! I've been here a handful of times and the service has been hit or miss. My first server was a helpful attentive lady. My last visit was a gentleman who was not present at all, and couldn't care less. I like the appearance of the place, and the location is fantastic! The food has been all good. Stopped in for happy hour with some family on a Wednesday and sadly it was not our normal dining experience. We decided to sit at the bar since it was just 3 of us. We were given water and menus pretty quickly, however after sitting around after about 10 minutes another group (much larger) that came in after us were quickly taken care of leaving us waiting. The bartender servicing the larger group did not even acknowledge us. After not being served in what we felt was a timely manner considering we saw multiple bartenders and servers standing around, we decided to leave for another location. read more

Great spot for a quick happy hour, the Circus Crush drink is definitely recommended for my sweet drink lovers! It was a great blend of pink lemonade and vodka, tasted like a twisted tea so not too much alcohol. The chargrilled old bay wings weren't my favorite--they were a bit too charred for my liking. I had a chance to taste the spinach dip which tasted pretty great, so I will definitely order next time! Honestly, Luis was the STAR of the show. Our server was also the bartender so service was spotty. Dessert came before some of our food. We had to request the bill three times. The food was okay. Ordered the fried chicken and waffles, same as Reston, but the waffles were normal (opposed to the corn/cheese ones) and the chicken was overly salted including large flaky salt that made it inedible. We inquired about the sofa seating since we were the inky ones there at the time, but was informed that seating was set up for other parties. We were provided water a few minutes after sitting down. My crab cake Benedict was subpar lacked crab meat significantly. My nojito was 10/10 honestly my only enjoyment when the service was terrible. Server did not make sure the drinks were coming for my party, water was refilled, and even missed a persons entree order. The manager was rude when we asked for an adjustment due to poor service. I would not recommend. The place is small. And charging 22% for a large party when the service is terrible is ridiculous almost robbery if you ask me. And to top it off the server at the end talking about I don't know what more I could have did for you all. When you could've been attentive to the table you could've made sure everyone got their entree and not have an attitude. My friends made brunch reservations for my birthday for a party of five. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty, we were the only guests. This was on a Sunday at 11 am in August 2024. We asked to be seated under the light-up sign shown in the photo, but they said no because it was reserved. However, they later seated a walk-in couple with a baby in that spot, which made us think there was some miscommunication and they didn't realize we were the reservation. We were not greeted warmly upon arrival, even though we had called ahead to inform them we'd be late and they said it was fine. Considering how slow they were, they could have been more welcoming. Our server, however, was super nice. I wish I had caught his name. We noticed several tables walk in, order one item, and then quickly leave without finishing. This scared us. One of the servers was loudly walking around on a personal phone call, which didn't help the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food and drinks weren't good at all, and we ended up grabbing a bite elsewhere afterward. Overall, we were disappointed with the service and the entire experience. Finally took a trip to the Wharf day after Memorial Day. Wanted breakfast but missed it at another spot so chose this location. Its a really cute space with plenty of seating. I sat in the bar and had the entire area to myself as I arrived before 12 pm. The waitress was friendly, which was nice we all know DMV area is touch and go with hospitality. Recently moved from the South so I lived good ole southern hospitality daily. I mentioned to the waitress I wanted breakfast she said they didnt serve breakfast but i could get the chicken and waffles and she could ask the kitchen to make some eggs so I had egg whites chicken and waffles. Listen Ive lived in the DMV for over 2 years and havent had good fried chicken until I visited Makers Union. It was well seasoned, crunchy and cooked thoroughly. They brought out a wing and thigh and I ate both of them. The waffles and egg whites were also good. Was a pleasant experience before the sticker shock. While we were still eating, our server began clearing items and asked if we needed to-go boxes. We said no, but she then took the entire nachos from the table even though we had barely eaten them. At that point, it was not closing time. The most uncomfortable moment was at payment. I paid using Apple Pay and left a custom tip. The server turned the receipt toward herself and said, "Let me see," appearing to check the total and tip amount. They can sometimes seat you right away or you can take any open seat at the bar if you want to take your chances. Lately, the bar has filled up fast when I've been there. It all depends. I'm a sucker for seafood and I'd seen the flyer sitting on the bar lately so I decided to go for it. Sea-Cuterie is what it's called and it has a lobster tail, oysters, lump crab cocktail, and shrimp. I can't abide oysters, so I asked if I could substitute something else and, of course, Brianna made it happen and I got more shrimp! My dining companion ordered Pasta Alfredo with Chicken (which was also available with shrimp) and it came with garlic bread I asked for a small piece of his garlic bread (for journalistic and quality control purposes only) and I honestly say it was the most delicious garlic bread I can remember having. Do NOT come here for brunch. We came in a group of 5. It took over 15 to 20 minutes to get the first "unlimited " mimosa and it took another 15 to actually get a refill. We had to ask the manager both times to grab our drinks from the bar. It was no where busy enougj for how long it took to get them or the food. There is an option to order family style which is a cool concept but you have to order the entire plate. One of the options is meat, eggs and potatoes but if you want to get another meat only it has to come with the eggs and potatoes which would be a waste of food so we decided to opt against it. What's sad about this place of all the food that was ordered, the Ceasars salad (which claimed to have kale and it was mostly all romaine...maybe 1 or 2 pieces of kale) and the Brussels were the best part. Not ideal for a BRUNCH spot. There was no seasoning on the food. The chicken tenders came SOAKED in grease and when I asked the manager to try another round he told me it purposely comes like that.
