I communicated with the team via phone (but left a voice message) then communicated via texts (which seemed faster and convenient for everyone). I was able to set a makeup and hair trial session 6 days before my big day. I was set up with the amazing Moana! I am a person who does not wear makeup a lot nor has great makeup skills lol. So I will admit, I was nervous. I mean, I had my share of experiences from Sephora and I was not always satisfied. So yes, I was skeptic. BUT...Moana did an amazing job with my hair and makeup trial! I loved it! She is friendly and hilarious. And she was honest with me. I showed her inspiration pictures and she let me know that the pictures I showed her were AI and reminded me that their skin is flawless and that she cannot make it exactly like the picture but she can work with what I have and make it beautiful in my own way. And she asked me questions and opinions on how I wanted to look. And the results of the trial session was amazing. For the rest of the day I walked outside and felt beautiful hehe. The day of, Moana, made me look and feel beautiful. I loved my makeup and my hair!! And my bridesmaids and my mom and mother-in-law were glammed up by the other amazing girls from DMA and omg...they all looked amazing! And they all loved it! And we were ready on time when the limo was to pick us up...okay, maybe a few minutes late. But the driver was not complaining hehe. We were looking to book Heather, the owner of the business, and were given 2 options - a standard package to book with the team or the more expensive LUX package to lock down Heather. For the standard package, they said Heather was available, scheduled herself for our wedding, and it's rare that another bride will book LUX package on the same day and cause Heather to move off. So, we felt comfortable to go with the first option thinking they would communicate if anything changes. Nothing changed for almost a year - until the week before the wedding. We were notified that another bride is interested in Heather, but nothing was confirmed so we could still upgrade the package. We were in the middle of work meetings, panicked, and decided that we would! It's the week before the wedding and we would throw money at any stability as we knew nothing about the other artist. We took out our credit card and our heart sank when we saw "Ok so we just got booked for a LUX from the other bride for this day". They didn't tell us this was a race!? We were given only 34 minutes to decide!? We thought they'd at least have the courtesy to wait for the initial client to make decisions. Sure it's not *illegal* but it's definitely unkind for Delish to pit 2 brides against each other the week before the wedding. Our wedding coordinator suggested to Heather that she should call us. We heard nothing, waited, and only got text messages 2 days later that they would make it up to us by doing the trial at our hotel instead of their studio. Then, they charged us $30 for parking tickets, which we would not have agreed to if we knew about it. We also requested to see the artist's portfolio to get over the feeling that I was going with a fallback option. It took 4 days for Heather to say "Sorry, completely forgot to send those over". 2-4 days is not a long time in a non-wedding settings, but keep in mind that this was 1 week before the wedding. That was 4 days of me crying convinced I was not going to look my best at my wedding. We considered not tipping with all the stress they put us through but we decided that the makeup artist is not a part of the admin team, so we still did. In the end, the artist was nice but the tears and nightmare they put us through was not worth it.

Our prayers were answered when we found May. This review is a bit long because it isn't fair to only describe her as amazing, because she is so much more! First off, May is so incredibly talented as a makeup artist. She has artistic vision and works to emphasize your features versus a "copy & paste" makeup style. Secondly, she is also very organized and professional from communicating before the wedding, to the makeup trial, to the day of the wedding making it easy to discuss and confirm with her. To start off, we are 2 brides, so that is double the makeup! My wife and I typically don't wear a lot of makeup so it was difficult for us to voice what we wanted and know what would look good on us. We decided to include a makeup trial which I HIGHLY recommend all brides do. My wife showed May some photos of the makeup look and up-do hairstyles she liked. May was so talented and gave my wife exactly the look she asked for. However, this is why the makeup trial is important because, my wife ended up realizing that she actually want a more natural look because it would make her feel more comfortable and that she actually would prefer her hair down. May was so understanding and had suggestions on how she can create that as she knew exactly what my wife wanted! With May's expertise, my wife felt so comfortable and beautiful with her hair and makeup on our wedding day. As for me, I shared a few images with May and described to her the feel I wanted to evoke with my hair and makeup. I mainly spoke about the facial features that I wished to emphasize and those I wished to minimize and trusted May to create the final vision. She did just that! May gave me the fresh faced look and styled my hair to matched the vision I had but didn't know how to voice entirely. May also went the extra mile for us to make our wedding perfect. On the day of our wedding, I suddenly asked if she could support us on-site at the wedding ceremony and for photos afterwards. This was because we did a small photo shoot on the day of our makeup trial, at the wedding location, the wind was insane and our hair was in our faces for all the photos. The weather also looked to be about the same on our wedding day, so for our wedding, we didn't want the same thing to happen, and I presented May with this last minute request. When I tell you she is kind and caring, I can't emphasize that enough. She told me that she had something already scheduled but she understood why and that she will try. She shifted her personal schedule around asking for her friend to help to take care of her personal errands, to be able to accompanying us to the wedding ceremony and photoshoot afterwards. I almost felt undeserving because this was essentially a stranger we met that week, but she has such a big and kind heart and was so caring that she was willing to go above and beyond to make us look and feel good on our wedding day. During the ceremony she was always watching to make sure both my wife and I looked our best. I really can't express or thank her enough for her talent, time, and kindness. She IS the best makeup artist in Hawaii!
