I had my wedding in Hawaii last week. Delish Makeup Artistry was recommended by the wedding coordinators from Haiku Gardens (which is where I had my wedding at). I communicated with the team via phone (but left a voice message) then communicated via texts (which seemed faster and convenient for everyone). I was able to set a makeup and hair trial session 6 days before my big day. I was set up with the amazing Moana! I am a person who does not wear makeup a lot nor has great makeup skills lol. So I will admit, I was nervous. I mean, I had my share of experiences from Sephora and I was not always satisfied. So yes, I was skeptic. BUT...Moana did an amazing job with my hair and makeup trial! I loved it! She is friendly and hilarious. And she was honest with me. I showed her inspiration pictures and she let me know that the pictures I showed her were AI and reminded me that their skin is flawless and that she cannot make it exactly like the picture but she can work with what I have and make it beautiful in my own way. And she asked me questions and opinions on how I wanted to look. And the results of the trial session was amazing. For the rest of the day I walked outside and felt beautiful hehe. The day of, Moana, made me look and feel beautiful. I loved my makeup and my hair!! And my bridesmaids and my mom and mother-in-law were glammed up by the other amazing girls from DMA and omg...they all looked amazing! And they all loved it! And we were ready on time when the limo was to pick us up...okay, maybe a few minutes late. But the driver was not complaining hehe. Thank you girls from DMA that helped me and my girls look beautiful for the big day! Makeup and hair stayed on well too for all of us, especially with the heat and humidity that day. hehe. Last minute changes. Lack of communication. Surprise fees. The week before the wedding was stressful, but I didn't expect to cry the most over Delish. We were looking to book Heather, the owner of the business, and were given 2 options - a standard package to book with the team or the more expensive LUX package to lock down Heather. For the standard package, they said Heather was available, scheduled herself for our wedding, and it's rare that another bride will book LUX package on the same day and cause Heather to move off. So, we felt comfortable to go with the first option thinking they would communicate if anything changes. Nothing changed for almost a year - until the week before the wedding. We were notified that another bride is interested in Heather, but nothing was confirmed so we could still upgrade the package. We were in the middle of work meetings, panicked, and decided that we would! It's the week before the wedding and we would throw money at any stability as we knew nothing about the other artist. We took out our credit card and our heart sank when we saw "Ok so we just got booked for a LUX from the other bride for this day". They didn't tell us this was a race!? We were given only 34 minutes to decide!? We thought they'd at least have the courtesy to wait for the initial client to make decisions. Sure it's not *illegal* but it's definitely unkind for Delish to pit 2 brides against each other the week before the wedding. Our wedding coordinator suggested to Heather that she should call us. We heard nothing, waited, and only got text messages 2 days later that they would make it up to us by doing the trial at our hotel instead of their studio. Then, they charged us $30 for parking tickets, which we would not have agreed to if we knew about it. We also requested to see the artist's portfolio to get over the feeling that I was going with a fallback option. It took 4 days for Heather to say "Sorry, completely forgot to send those over". 2-4 days is not a long time in a non-wedding settings, but keep in mind that this was 1 week before the wedding. That was 4 days of me crying convinced I was not going to look my best at my wedding. We considered not tipping with all the stress they put us through but we decided that the makeup artist is not a part of the admin team, so we still did. In the end, the artist was nice but the tears and nightmare they put us through was not worth it. read more

My wedding is coming up in under 3 months. Holy moly. It's getting real. My amazing wedding planner (Taryn.. another 5 star beauty), recommended Heather from Delish. Yesterday I had a hair/makeup trial with her. I have to be honest, I was a HUGE skeptic. I rarely wear makeup and when I do it's like fast, natural, mom kind makeup. I was worried I was going to walk out of this makeup trial looking like a clown. And my hair.. nobody can get my hair to keep curls! I have that fine tangly hair that basically is difficult to deal with... it legit usually can't hold a curl for anything. In comes Heather... she is so open and easy to talk to. I found Heather through a recommendation from our photographer, Joseph Esser. He told us to choose a make up artist that is on time, because sometimes that is what holds up the wedding schedule. I scheduled a trial with Heather in Palolo right before my engagement photos in October. She made me feel comfortable, which was important since I rarely get my hair and make up done. I gave her basically no info since I wasn't sure about what I wanted aside from my hair being half up half down. Heather did a nice job with my hair and make up. She made it so the curls kept well in the humidity that is Hawaii. On the day of the wedding, Heather did come around 45 min late, but it was fine since I actually told her a bit earlier than I absolutely had to be done. She came from another wedding which had some tricky hair situation, so we understood. At least we were able to be finished by the time that I needed to be done. We all looked good after getting our make up and hair done. I got some compliments and was happy with the finish product. No one should underestimate the power of great hair and makeup! You can have the perfect wedding dress and a beautiful reception, but if your look is not properly achieved, it can be a bit disappointing. Heather and her sidekick Nicole did a phenomenal job on my face and tresses for the "Big Day". I will shout her name from the rooftops so other bride-to-bes will know where to find her, she's that good! Thanks to Julia H. and her awesome review, I had committed to Heather despite the many other makeup artists around town. I met countless vendors at the bridal expo, Brides Night Out, and through word of mouth, but there was something about Heather that I really appreciated... she's an amazing woman that LISTENS to what you want. I appreciate artists who aren't "set" in their ways of what looks good. I've had a ton of botched makeup sessions from prom queen days to runway contests because my face is neither textbook Asian nor Caucasian featured--it's a mix of both. And while many artists will "cookie cutter" you into certain facial types that I unfortunately don't fall into, Heather is very conscientious of what she's doing. Let me preface this review with some cold. hard. truth. I SUCK at makeup. There was one point in my life where I kind of started to pick it up, but all of a sudden it's like I have makeup amnesia and have no idea what I am doing. Basically, I don't do my makeup. At all. Ever. If I need it done, I get it done. And no, I don't even do my eyebrows or anything. Last weekend was my bridal shower and for some reason, I didn't think to get my makeup done until the week of! So I turned to trusty ol' yelp to find something. I found one girl who was willing to do it but for $300. NO THANK YOU. Heather/Delish got back to me SUPER FAST and ended up only being about $100ish. They were also able to make the time that I needed (specific, since I had a hair appointment right after). On the day of, I found Heather's studio super easy. It is on Koko Head Avenue, near the nail shop. FYI. ;) The decor in her studio is CUTE AF... just sayin'. I asked for "natural" makeup - I do not like the over-the-top crazy stuff. Plus, looking like me is important to my fiance, so all I told her was to do whatever she thought was good, but natural. She asked me a few questions along the way, like if I ever had fake lashes or if I ever wore foundation. When she asked me about the lashes, she made a comment about not wanting to go too overboard to a point where my fiance would think it didn't look like me and I LOVED THAT. She also asked me if I was okay and If I felt comfortable with the makeup and the lashes (once she put them on). Aside from doing my makeup, Heather was so sweet and very easy (and fun) to talk to. Not awkward at all (which has happened to me sometimes). By the end, I was rushing to get to my hair appointment, so I didn't really get a chance to look at my makeup until about an hour and a half later and let me tell you... I was blown away! It looked SO GOOD. And SO natural. I can honestly say, BEST MAKEUP I HAVE EVER HAD DONE. If my wedding for (1) weren't on another Island and for (2) I didn't have another artist, I would totally fly her up for my wedding. The best part about it is, she also took my hair appointment into consideration. She did her best not to put the foundation too close to my hairline so that the hairstylist would have a little wiggle room while washing my hair. AND I couldn't even tell that I didn't have foundation all over my face. I cannot say enough good things about Heather. She is amazing at what she does. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend. Heather and her team are just spectacular! I hired Heather & the Delish team at the recommendation of our coordinator, and after reading all of their 5 star reviews. They were very easy to communicate with. I do not wear much makeup, and the couple times I have had my makeup done I have truly disliked it. So I was quite nervous, but I can't tell you how much I loved my makeup on my wedding day! I was blown away! I even asked her to match my lip color to my red flowers and she nailed it. I put my faith in Best Day Ever (my wedding planner) to find me vendors in Hawaii for my wedding. I am so happy they hooked me up with Heather! She was so great to work with. She came to my hotel and did my hair and makeup in a couple of hours, but during that short amount of time, I found her to be so pleasant and fun to be around. My short meeting with her was one of my favorite moments I look back on when getting ready for my big day! She showed up bright and early around 6:15 in the morning (I had a morning wedding) and I was pumped and giddy! In my opinion, Heather is, hands down, the best makeup artist on the island. I've been in many weddings and have had my makeup done by most of the popular makeup artists out there. I am usually "okay" with my makeup, sometimes pleased, but never blown away. Except with Heather. My best friend booked Heather for her wedding, and, having never heard of her before, didn't know what to expect. I can say that ALL bridesmaids were pleased with their makeup, to the point that 2 others then booked Heather for their own weddings. I have had Heather do my makeup twice since that wedding, both times, to unbelieveable results. I seriously have no idea how she does it, but I trust her completely. I like the assurance that I KNOW who will be doing my makeup, not like other companies where you book one person and someone else does your makeup, or worse yet, you book a "company" and you get what you get. I really can't say enough about Heather's ability, but she has a great eye for what will look good. I have very discriminating taste when it comes to my makeup and never before have I been so pleased and have heard such overwhelmingly positive remarks about any one makeup artist. How I looked on my wedding day was very important to me so I made sure to research each and every one. I happened across Heather and instantly knew she was the one. The photos of her work were incredible without making her clients look overdone. I first used her for my engagement photos and loved everything about my hair and makeup. Then came my wedding trial. Heather was so patient with both me and my finicky bridesmaids and took the time to indulge all of our requests. I thought I had finally settled on what I wanted and then a week before my wedding, I saw an IG post that I loved, tagged her in it and asked, "would you hate me if I changed my mind to this?" I had makeup and hair done for a military ball that I had scheduled way too early as I didn't know the ball started much later than I orig thought. She made me feel beautiful and my makeup and hair lasted all night! She let me keep my hair in clips per my request so I can remove it myself and my hair can stay curly. Coming in from Germany for my destination wedding I was a little nervous on how language would play out and whether Heather would be able to get me the make up look that I wanted.
