Carmel-by-the-Sea isn't necessarily known for the bar scene, but Links offers an excellent option for anyone looking to extend their night and keep the fun going! They have a pretty extensive menu of food and drinks. The food is pretty standard bar fare, but with no shortage of options. The drink selection is quite varied as well, with a good selection of beers on tap. Service has always been exemplary when I've been here - the staff is friendly, fun, and have the gift of quickly remembering their return visitors, which really makes Links feel like a welcoming spot. Food and drinks come out quickly, and my beer glass was rarely empty without the staff coming up and offering another round! Links also has several large golf simulator areas, where you and your friends can practice your swing while playing a number of games against a large virtual projector screen. With elevation, undulating fairways and tough to read, fast greens! Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in wonderful condition! The front four or five holes are nothing like the rest of the course. They are more links style with some spectacular views of the ocean, but also lots of sandy waste areas!! I pulled an approach into that heavy, fluffy beach quality sand and it was no fun- almost no chance to get the ball on the green in one shot!! The rest of the holes are more tree lined and narrow with many sloping fairways and elevated greens! I read some other reviews about poor service or rude on course marshall, but we experience any of that. In fact, we were hoping for a marshall because it took us almost 5-1/2 hours to finish our round with groups waiting on every tee ahead of us! Anyway, this review is for the course itself and not service or pace of play. I chalk up the pace of play due to multiple NCGA sponsored events that day and a full course on a tough layout (there was also an NCGA tournament that day that started in the morning before our 2:10 tee time).
