I was offered two suits to try on - one out of my comfort zone, frankly - and both of them fit super well. My husband's obsessed with them and talks of going back just to have the employees help me pick out another one... or two... or three.

The manager, Rose is very helpful and immediately gives you a warm welcome as soon as you enter the store. And as I was trying on suits and coverups I noticed that she continued to greet other shoppers the same warm and welcoming way. All the while still assisting me with choosing different styles and sizes. I found a bathing suit, a coverup and cute one piece gorgeous tube top pants suit. So unique, well made and fairly priced based on the quality. I ended up spending about $900 for three items.

I recommend reading other negative reviews. Ours wasn't nearly as bad as some others. Earlier today (03/27/2026, around 4:30) my friend and I visited Dentelle. We were first met by a woman who politely greeted us from her seated position as she worked on attaching a corset piece to a hanger (this becomes only slightly relevant later). We proceeded to admire the selection, slowly making our way around the store and quietly commenting to each other here and there. Not long after, one of the owners--Paul, as I hear it--walked in, and rather than greet us, the first thing he did was treat my childhood friend like an idiot. It started benignly enough. At the time, she had been looking at a sheer purple top and told me how much she loved it. Paul commented that it "matches with the one* next to it". (*A purple bra in the same shade, of which there were no other matching pieces.) I looked over my shoulder at this, and after she politely and cheerfully agreed that she noticed that, he walked up behind her and added, "They're the same color". I could tell he was just trying to make a sale, but by that point I was already blown away by his audacity. I could tell my friend was, too, but she humored him and simply said that they were lovely together and she wished she could, but her bank account wouldn't be happy about it. In a way I can't possibly articulate through text, he asked her, "Well, what's stopping you?" She had basically just told him, but all the same she then plainly said that she couldn't afford both. He then took a few steps back and began quipping at her every minute or less that we were there, even after my wife joined us. The woman behind the desk spent this time pretending to look busy with the same single piece of lingerie. She was unfolding and refolding it, clipping and unclipping it to its hanger, until finally we drifted over to the shop's right hand wall and she pushed past us. (See, not very relevant, other than her complicity in the situation and generally giving a bad impression regarding customer service and work ethic, as well as the owners' values. They get paid how much to do this, but treat customers they deem "too poor" like garbage? Okay.) My friend made her way there first, and Paul laughed at her and told her that she didn't need to "even bother going over there" if she "couldn't even afford the other stuff. This is the really good stuff." I moved to join my friend, and we both looked, regardless. Annoyed, I began to tune him out, until my friend told him that her sugardaddy was in Vegas. He paused, then told her to call him right then. She declined, and we walked out. I'm really sanitizing this experience in my retelling, but it was outrageous that he, in no uncertain terms, made it VERY clear that my friend was not welcome. I was largely ignored, and I suspect that it was because of how I dressed, looked, and sounded. Needless to say, any interest in this shop is long gone. Steer clear if you value people who value others and their time--because all Paul seems to care for is how much money you can put into his bank account. To the owners, since I've seen a pattern in your replies: I am not interested in having our experience being refuted or gaslit. I am not even interested in insincere apologies, though I've seen nothing of the like so far to anyone else who has suffered similar treatment. Do not bother replying.

Kelly, the owner, was super cool and he knows his stuff. I walked in with my boyfriend's 13 year old son for a wetsuit rental and he looked right at him and said...."Size 14." I was blown away and said, "Wow, you're good!" He proceeded to measure his height and weigh him on the scale and then referred to his chart and showed me and he was spot on! He knows his stuff. I had also purchased a bumper sticker to put on the bottom of one of our new bodyboards and it ended up getting ripped off and destroyed that first day out with the wetsuit rentals and our new board. When I returned the wetsuit the next day I told the cashier what happened and the owner must have heard me tell the story and came out of nowhere and had the cashier comp me a replacement. Super cool! I'm a sticker freak so that made my day Also be sure to sign up for their rewards program & mailing list, with in 24 hrs. Let me start this by saying I can't come up to Monterey without visiting OTB. First of all, the staff here is awesome. Helpful, funny, kind, and passionate about the shop and all of its components. The owner, Kelly, is a super chill guy and always helpful. He has a real passion for surfing, skating, and all that entails and is always willing to chat and share that knowledge. Second, the selection is awesome. Everything from swim suits, snow jackets, and shoes to wetsuits and surfboards. You will find what you need. If you are concerned about the price of the items, please please please keep in mind that this is a small business trying to offer high quality items, not Costco selling cheap crap that will break down in 2 uses. You get what you pay for and I've never been upset with the quality of the product I get here. Overall, this place is a nice little gem that is an absolute must to check out, even if you just go peruse and chill with the staff. Great shop!! Stopped in with the family while visiting the area...staff were very courteous and helpful. Got a chance to chat with the store owner... apparently opened this place up in his 20's ... cool to have a local owner who is passionate about the gear he sells and rents and also puts his customers first. I overheard them having a conversation with another customer who was buying some surf gear and they had advised him against going out that day due to the weather. Prices were good given the fact that some of the other shops we'd been to seemed a bit on the more expensive end for the same stuff. While we weren't going to be in town long enough to rent anything, we did grab some Monterey swag and would definitely recommend the shop to anyone in the area looking to buy or rent. I thought it was pretty cool that they rented / sold snowboards, etc as well given the areas general focus on surfing and skateboarding. Check them out!!! read more

This is also my first review ever on Yelp and without a doubt deserves 5 stars! I'm from out of state and have never surfed before, but Kelly found me a wet suit and a great beginner board for an extremely reasonable price. He even gave me a lift to Asilomar beach (since I didn't have a car) and some advice along the way. I surfed for half a day (4 hours) and he gave me a ride back to the shop as well. Kelly is great and the rest of the staff are also personable and helpful. It's definitely a great place to go if you want to try surfing and I'll visit again if I'm ever come back to this area! read more

My husband and I just wrapped up a great honeymoon in Monterey. We stumbled onto this shop walking through Cannery Row and really wanted to check out their full apparel selection at the main store. We got way more than we bargained for by finding some awesome deals AND some incredible helpful referrals from the owner, Kelly. OTB is definitely the go to place for gear on the peninsula. Kelly and his staff are super helpful and friendly and take the time to show you around and answer questions. I take my 3 year old girl there and she LOVES the fish tank. She can't stop asking to "go see the fish tank with the girls at the surf shop". We're new to the area so a family friendly place like OTB is important to us. We were in California on vacation when we stopped at On The Beach surf shop in Monterey. Kelly and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We bought surf booties, and a beginner surf board for my brother. I found the prices to be reasonable and the staff to be helpful yet not pushy. Kelly and his team are definitely worth a visit while in Monterey. Not only do they have great prices for surfboard and wetsuit rentals, they also rent out roof racks so you can get to the beach without a hassle! I love OTB it is one of the best stores I have been to. Being a size 16 shoe I can't find any shoes in my size. OTB always help me out by letting my order my shoes that can be sent to the store I don't have to fuss with a bunch of useless info either. I called on Thursday to order my shoes and they arrived the next day! I'm not local to Carmel but in a few cities over so this is convenient so I don't need to make a trip down there. When I visit Carmel again, I will definitely stop by. Their customer service is excellent and I will continue to support this small business.

But my husband loves the place and buys a t shirt every time we come to Monterey since they last well, and are super soft. Prices are a bit higher than average.
