Great venue! This is a beautiful and historic theater, and the staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. Because the theater is relatively small, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. They have some basic snacks and drinks, including a good selection of beer and wine. We try to make a point of keeping track of what shows and movies are coming to the Franklin Theatre, as it is always great to have an excuse to visit this great theater! read more

Located in downtown Franklin, this historic theater is a gem! They welcome amazing artists year round, and seating is hard to beat. Not a bad seat in the house, and love the cabaret option up front. Tickets are generally very reasonable, unless it's a super well known person, parking is a breeze with free garages nearby, and staff is the kindest you can find. It's a theater, so not menu style food, but they offer some snacks like popcorn. I really just adore this venue - can't wait for my next show here! read more

I love that 4 groups in a row showed up for what we all thought was a NOON showing of Christmas Vacation to find out it was a 11:59pm or what people normally call a MIDNIGHT showing. Stinks to miss seeing one of my favorite Christmas movies in an iconic and historic theatre. I sought some resolution and upon timing not working to switch to another show or time, I thought I would spread some Christmas cheer and turn them into gift certificates and just give them to the lady behind me who was there to purchase gift certificates. NOT ALLOWED. Franklin Theatre, for being the ultimate GRINCH this Christmas season between your misleading marketing and stingy refund policies. I came here for a meeting with the Visit Franklin people and the Downtown Franklin Association. The meeting was great, but it was hard to focus because of how beautiful this theater looks. It's over 80-years old and was renovated 10-years ago? I love the retro look of the lobby and all of the pictures on walls highlighting the venues history. This is not a review of the charming Franklin Theater which is a treasure. This is a review of the Richard Jacques Rock the Halls show seen on December 2, 2025 at the Franklin Theater. This may be the most amateur, unrehearsed show I've ever paid money for. My friend that went with me described it as "cheesy" which is actually kind. The singers when singing together were so out of tune I actually winced during several of the songs. Note: Tracey DiCicco was good and the only singer who sang on pitch. The set list was up for grabs with the MC / main performer often asking the players if they were ready to "try one", and shifting the song order based on the band member saying if they were ready or not. The Players were actually very good with great pedigrees, but by all appearances, this "show" was patched together legit players, with singers who had other jobs, and who might have run a couple of rehearsals over the weekend before the show just to run through the music. The 4 women singers more than once encouraged the audience to "charge the stage" if we wanted to, and told us also before and after one song that they worked really hard on this one. In my opinion, this kind of sloppy showmanship and lack of value for the money blows a hole in my trust that the Franklin Theater vets the acts for quality control before patrons spend $47 a ticket for a show that we can't wait to end. I will not attend another show put together by Richard Jacques. The only thing redeeming was a fun night out with friends at a cheesy performance we could laugh about later. read more

We visited for the awesome show of Lee Roy Parnell and Friends - including the beautiful Ms. Lisa Stewart and the incredible guitarists Seth James and Anson Funderburgh. These guys put on a helluva show. Lots of historic charm as Franklin theater was originally built in the 1930's, fell into disrepair in the 00's and eventually went through a big-budget renovation and restoration. Incredible sound and lighting system, comfortable seats and an overall great feel to the place. Loved the easy bar and concessions service. A great place to see a live show. read more

The walk up to the theater is just as enchanting as the theater itself. Families eating ice cream on park benches whilst petting the family pooch. Couples strolling hand in hand after a quaint dinner. (Insert small town charm cliche here- you will see it) The theater is modern yet it retains all the old world charm of yesteryear. It s the perfect theater to be located on Main Street USA. The music and movie selections are varied and interesting... but never in poor taste. The bar has ample offerings. My mom and I saw Gary Puckett and The Union Gap at the Franklin Theatre. It's a beautiful, smaller, older theatre. I really don't think that there is bad seat in the house and I say this as we had seats in the absolute last row. The sound quality was great. Parking is very convenient, just use the parking structure across the street. They had a great selection of beer/wine and snacks in the lobby area. It appears that they have a nice variety of movies and concerts. Artists come from far and and wide to entertain audiences at the Franklin Theatre. I would highly recommend a visit! read more

Movies and Music and More (aka) Mm Mm Good! I could probably list 1937 reasons to visit this historic venue on Main Street in downtown Franklin....but that would be an understatement. And if "these walls could talk," we all would be mesmerized by the rich history, star-studded performances, and intimate charm of this venerable theater. Opened in 1937, the theater has run the gamut of glory, bumps, restoration, and revival. It has hosted live performances from A to Z featuring a rainbow of stars like Amy Grant, Blind Boys of Alabama, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, Four Freshmen (a little nostalgia here), Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey Orchestras (more nostalgia from my most recent visit), Jars of Clay, Los Lobos, Lynda Carter, Macy Gray, Percy Sledge (am I showing my age with these favorites?), Riders in the Sky, Second City, Sheryl Crow (another local), Don McLean (how about a slice of "American Pie, Vincent"? ... (sorry, a much too out-of-line pun), Vince Gil, Wynonna, Zinghoppers. OK....that's a tease from A-Z but really just a peek of the full list - which, of course, grows with each season. But wait! There's more ... including live theater like "The Lion King," "Smokey Joe's Cafe," "Peter Pan." Need I say more? Well, I think I will...let's say, "movies." If you'd like to see a Golden Globes and Academy Award nominated musical, "The Greatest Showman" or maybe an animated feature, "Ferdinand" this would be the place. Or perhaps you'd like something a bit more personally interactive like a screening of the award-winning, faith-based musical film, "Broken & Beautiful.," a film that features popular Contemporary Christian Music and... members of both the cast and crew who will be present for a Q&A following the film. Folks, these are everyday kinds of things at this incredible theatre. But wait! There's even more. Food, glorious food. This isn't just the old box of popcorn, folks. Concessions at the Franklin Theatre include the aforementioned fresh popcorn, candy, various soft drinks, beer and wine. They even have a full bar that is open during select events. And one more thing ... wait for it ... they also serve an exclusive, locally produced chocolate bar called "Showtime!" with dark chocolate, almonds, caramel, and sea salt. Did I mention free parking close by in downtown Franklin? Yep, on the street or just around the corner in the 4th Street garage. Well, after all that one might say, "Elvis has left the building," but that would be erroneous. Seven of the "Nashville Elvis Festival" events will be held in March 2018 at the Franklin Theatre. I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything historical and this Theater just OOOZES History...even on the inside walls there are framed photographs of days and era gone by...if you have not been here..definitely check it out...SUPPORT THE ARTS and SUPPORT the FRANLIN THEATER.. OK, what's not to love about the Franklin Theater? I'm a native to this area so I remember it "before", the "after" is amazing! Small venue, great acoustics, always a great show. I recently attended a musical concert and was not familiar with the specific artist but wanted to take an out of towner to the theater. Everything about our visit was top notch. Good refreshments, air conditioning (that night that was critical), and the music was just fabulous. Treat yourself sometime and come here, I cannot imagine being disappointed here! read more

This is such a great venue. It's small enough to enjoy a more intimate concert or performance, but it's large enough to give the room a feel like a larger show. Combine that with the classic decor, from the marquee out front to the beautifully perfected interior, it is like a time capsule with a touch of modern. They have such a variety of events as well, so whether it's a specialty movie, a comedy show or a concert... I've been at all of the above and it's just a truly beautiful venue! read more

I've never been before and was looking for something different. My wife's a fan of 80s movies, and they often show those at this theater. We both love the old style of theaters. Going to KCU in the 80s (Grayson, KY) we often went to nearby Huntington, WV to a couple of classic downtown theaters: The Keith Albee and The Camelot. So going to the Franklin Theatre was sort of a flashback to when we were dating. The theatre was nicely restored. Unfortunately the balcony was closed as we wanted to sit there. Concessions are reasonable and they have free refills on popcorn and pop. They have a $4 candy bar, but the cool thing is that it has a coupon inside for a free movie ticket. It looks like they have surround sound speakers, but our movie only had sound from the two front main speakers. Maybe the movie we saw didn't have surround sound. The theater was clean. I actually enjoyed the old style seats more than the modern, lounge type at the megaplex. The only negative was one of the concession workers complaining how hot he was and that the air conditioning needed to be turned up. I never understand employees who openly complain in front of patrons. We'll check their calendar and go back again. read more

Lovely space, great intimate setting for a show. I have a couple of quibbles though... First of all, the place has been so heavily remodeled, it's kind of got a Disney "Main Street" feel to the interior -- not a lot of history left in there to experience. So, if you're coming for that retro theatre experience, you might be disappointed. Secondly, the balcony is WAYYYYY in the back of the theater. I'm used to the front row of the balcony being at least 1/3rd of the way over the first floor, but here, it's pretty much behind the last row of the main floor. Lovely, comfortable seats, good selection of beverages and snacks, and a wonderful, helpful staff make this worth a return visit. TIP: Bring a sweater or jacket. They have EXCELLENT A/C! read more

Nowadays going to the theatre will set you back at least $40. In that respect, Franklin Theatre is as refreshing as their air conditioning (which works very well). My boyfriend and I recently saw a move there for $5.00. Yes, you read that correctly. We saw a movie for FIVE DOLLARS. Yes, it was the Wizard of Oz but it satisfied my need to go on a movie date and who doesn't love the Wizard of Oz? I enjoyed my experience (and my receipt) so much that I am dragging my boyfriend back for a midnight showing of Monty Python: The Search for the Holy Grail. The showing is at midnight and is 21+ (No hormone induced teenage lovers making out behind me!!). The theater serves beer so I plan on spending the money I saved on tickets to treat my dear to a Yazoo brew. I will leave you with this, when I went to the bathroom they were playing the audio through the speakers so that I wouldn't miss anything. Seriously? I don't think I'll ever go back to the big chain theater. read more

The last movie I remember seeing at the old Franklin Cinema was Stepmom, mainly because it was the only thing playing at the time that we wanted to go to a movie. The old Franklin Cinema had two screens when it closed. One was a somewhat decently sized theater...the other one was about the size of a closet. It's in the same building and it's technically the same theatre that closed in 2007, but it's remarkably different. I believe the first reaction I had walking into the newly reopened Franklin Theatre was "WOW". It's simply the most gorgeous bit of cinema that I could have possibly expected. Instead of two screens, there's one large theatre...it's done in art deco style and it is absolutely gorgeous. All over the place, there are historical photos of Franklin and of the theatre. All of the signs appear to be LED (including the menus at the concession stands). There are two concession stands - one serves food and beer, the other serves liquor. They were showing Big Lebowski and had $5 White Russians (what else would you drink while watching Big Lebowski?). The theatre itself is simply a work of art. And $5 tickets can't be beat. If you went to the old Franklin Cinema...prepare to be amazed at what it has become. read more

The crowd at the at the Franklin Theatre last night may have been the most white-bread, chronologically mature, conservative-looking group that has ever attended at a blues/funk/gospel/soul concert. But none of that mattered when Mike Farris and the Roseland Rhythm Revue (http://www.mikefarrismusic.net/index2.php) took the stage. The 60-ish (?) blond lady in the seat in front of me started screaming like the Beatles had just walked off the plane from Liverpool. The gray-haired buttoned-down executive type to my right began pumping his fist in the air. The arm candy one row back got on her feet to boogie. Bedlam broke loose in the best possible way for the next two hours. I should have known. This is MIKE FARRIS we're talking about. The man could put on a show at a home for centenarians and the audience would probably throw away their wheelchairs and walkers to rise up and revel in the joyous noise and inimitable energy pouring from the stage. So as Mike promised, he broke in the new Franklin Theatre and wore a little paint off the walls. Awesome show, as usual. The McCrary Sisters (http://www.mccrarysisters.net/) on backup rocked the house. As the endearing opening band The Vespers (http://thevespersband.com/) noted, Regina McCrary sure can shake that tambourine like nobody's business. So yeah. The Theatre? What can I say, it's a great space. Brand spankin' new. Nicely climate-controlled. The seats are comfortable. Plenty of space between the rows provide lots of leg room. The wooden armrests have cup holders (although they're bottomless, so they'll hold a cup, but water bottles slide right through and then roll down to the next row as a lady behind me discovered). The theatre design is very classy, although personally I would have preferred something a touch more baroque, instead of the slightly minimalist aesthetic, but that might have been a cost-driven consideration. The men's restroom is pretty swank with privacy screens where you'd want them, piped-in background music and celebrity photos (Judy Garland?) staring at you while you do your business. I dig the touchless water faucet, but the sinks are strangely petite and I wish they had (touchless) paper towel dispensers rather than the jet-powered hand dryers similar to the ones found in many airport restrooms these days. I'm excited to go back to the Franklin Theatre to see a film. They've got a nice mix of second-run kinda recent releases and classics, plus midnight (or 11 p.m.) flicks like Caddyshack and Animal House. I heard a rumor that there might have been some sorta toga party at the Animal House screening on Friday night. The concession stands sell water, beer and stiff drinks (at stiff Franklin prices) for at least the live music shows, not sure about what's sold during films. Films are priced incredibly well right now - $5 - but I think I read in a Brentwood paper that this low pricing is only a temporary measure to draw in opening crowds. We'll see. It would be nice if catching a flick at the Franklin Theatre cost less than a megaplex to draw in the crowds and foster that community feeling. Maybe they could have a reduced rate membership program like the Belcourt (http://www.yelp.com/biz/belcourt-theatre-nashville)? The concerts on the other hand can be really spendy. Mike's show was an incredible value at $15, but there are plenty of live performances coming up where the tickets are $50, $75 or even $125! Maybe the Theatre is trying to raise enough money to build an endowment or pay off fundraising-related debts? Or maybe they know that Williamson County is one of the richest counties in the country and there are probably enough nicely loaded couples around to plunk down that kind of dough for a night's entertainment. I just hope they'll continue to throw some $15 live shows into the mix for the rest of us. One of the greatest things about Nashville's entertainment scene isn't just that the performers are amazing (MIKE FARRIS! THE McCRARY SISTERS!), but also that most of the shows are so accessible to everyone from millionaires to middle class to blue collar to students. The Franklin Theatre opened in 1937. I'm guessing movies at the theatre cost about a nickle back then? Maybe a quarter? Cinema palaces wanted to make money, sure, but also they were places to make memories and create community spirit. These virtues seem more important than ever especially since the new Franklin Theatre is owned by a nonprofit Heritage Foundation of Frankin and Williamson County. Congratulations to all who helped bring back the Franklin Theatre. To the community, let's support this jewel. To the Foundation, please keep the theatre accessible and affordable to all as much as possible. This was a definite highlight of our trip. As a hint, Franklin pretty much closes down on Sundays. There is almost nothing to do, even restaurants are closed (which is shocking to see as someone from Chicago, but I kind of applaud it, it felt like Christmas), which is the perfect time for a movie in a classically restored theater that sells wine and beer! From the price of the movie (all movies are $5) to the comfort of the seats to the volume of the movie to the surrounding people to the choice of movie (it was 1963 - Charade with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant), the whole night was perfect. A tip: You need to reserve a seat, like actually pick a seat number when you buy them. Unlike normal theaters, I think front row is probably a better choice. We told the girl a the counter to pick something good for us. She gave us 2nd row with no one in front of us. An excellent pick. I would go back every time I'm in the area. This is probably the most wonderful business on Main St, and that is saying a lot. They serve minimal food items and have a great beer and wine selection, not to mention the mostly full bar and specialty cocktails. Park the car then stroll up or down Main Street, check out the places to eat, window shop, or get a pre-theatre drink...The Franklin Theatre is beautiful.!! They have all types of venues, movies, live performances, musicians etc. Take a look at their website and book ahead for events. They have all of the usual movie snacks along with beer and vino... The staff were friendly when we picked up our tickets at "will call" to "Big River" a musical produced by Studio Tenn, and we were escorted to our seats by a very nice lady. Despite being a Nashville resident for almost 14 years now, I've never taken the opportunity to visit this place...UNFORTUNATELY. This is one of the coolest places in Nashville...seriously. I wish I lived a little closer to the theater, otherwise I'd be here every month. I love that the film selections and the...beer selections...yes, the serve beer and wine at the movies. The Franklin Theatre - Here for "Into the woods." - Cinema Near Me - Franklin, Tennessee

On January 3, 2022 my girlfriend bought us tickets to see Black Violin for Saturday Feb 5, 2022. The two tickets, to include fees and taxes came out to roughly $160. My girlfriend wanted to see the Black Violin for several years now and they finally were close enough to see them and she was excited. We drove an hour and a half to Franklin, TN and arrived 30 minutes prior to show time when we were informed that we needed to wear a mask, but more importantly that we needed to have our covid vaccination cards and identification or a negative covid test in order to enter the theater. Mind you, we are fully supportive of covid policies but in this instance we were never notified that any such policy with the theater existed until we arrived for the show. We did not bring our vaccination cards with us, they were an hour and a half away. The only option provided to us by the theater employee was that we could pay an additional $30 per person to go next door and have a covid test, it was as if they had some type of partnership with the business next door as there was a line of folks waiting for covid test in order to be able to get in the theater. With only one 10 minutes left before the show was to begin, there was no way we were going to get and receive our covid results before it began and they would not offer a refund, we were just out of luck. We checked the theaters website and discovered that they had just implemented this policy on 14 Jan 202, 11 days after we bought our tickets. We received NO notification of this change/update in policy via email or otherwise. We were simply left surprised and extremely disappointed, my girlfriend was on the verge of tears.
