This is not a review for the quality of work done, but to share my experience trying to get work…read morescheduled. My first call was picked up by their admin, who asked details about what work I wanted to get done. She said to look out for their e-mail, which I received soon after. In the e-mail, I was informed of the standard charges for general handyman work ($185), per hour rates thereafter, cancellation fees etc. I was informed that they will be able to help me with the projects, and they might be able to fit me in as early as the following week. I needed to provide photos and notes so they could better judge project scope, the service location, credit card details, and complete billing information. I responded after three days with details and photos of the work needed, service and billing address and my credit card. Since then, I've been ghosted. Over a period of one week after I responded to their e-mail, none of my calls to them were answered, and no response to my follow-up e-mails or the voicemail I left them. I finally contacted a few other handymen in the area and one of them got the job done professionally.

Poor workmanship & unscrupulous business practices. The office manager strung me along for months…read morepromising to refund me for poor workmanship. (They put the wrong sized B vent & flashing on my roof.). They never answer the phone & even though I met their extremely ridiculous text string of demands proving the work had to be redone and providing video evidence of it being replaced, they ghosted me! I should have known from the beginning not to use them when they said they only offer a 6 month warranty on their services. Take my advice, do not use this company for anything. You get what you pay for.

I asked him if I could hire him to put together my new pressure washer and he said he'd come over after work. Sure enough, he showed up when he said he would, and here were the first words out of his mouth: "I'm not going to take your money, I just want to help you." His name is Junior and he owns the company. He assembled my pressure washer very quickly and told me he repairs roofs, he paints, he cleans gutters, and he repairs leaks in addition to pressure-washing. It was about 5:15pm when he finished and told me he had three more jobs to do that night before he could get home to his wife and two little boys. So I'm writing this because people like Junior deserve the same kindness he offers-and I hope everyone who reads this will think of him when they need some house maintenance & repair. Their work and that of their subcontractors was all high quality. Our foreman Gary was a pleasure to work with. He would not accept any shortcuts and wanted to ensure we were happy with everything. We are loving our new kitchen!

The first thing Tom told me when he came over for the first day of work was: "How did you find…read morethese guys? They can't find new customers and all their existing customers aged out/died". We probably should have ran at this point. We had a quote from Johnson Brothers Construction to rebuild our shower that had a leaking drain. Their quote was very competitive ($10k + tax) and they seemed knowledgable enough, so we went with them, aware that things might go over the quoted amount given that every projects has unknown. We did have some unforeseen things happen, requiring an extra day of labor to strengthen the floor and some weirdness about the existing drain setup that was taken care of by a plumber in an hour. Yet, here we are, two months later with a total bill that is well over twice the quoted amount, a tiling job that is sub-par and a lot of finishing touches are still missing. When you hire a general contractor, you expect them to guarantee some level of quality and to advocate on your behalf with subcontractors. In our case, the tiling subcontractor not only did a horrible job, but also tried to increase the cost for some work we already sign-off on and way over ordered one of the types of tiles (that we had to pay for). In the end the subcontractor fixed as much as they could short of redoing the whole floor, but we were the one fighting for it and inspecting the work. JBC just stood by. JBC also had two subcontractor give us quote for some drywall for a transition strip. Their interfacing between these subcontractors is essentially a series of screenshots of iMessage conversations they have with those subs. I made it clear to the drywall sub that I wanted quotes for the different parts of the job. He gives us one opaque quote with possibly an extra $100 (??). The transition strip sub, what we hear is that he'll come by by the end of next week. Saturday comes and he is no where to be found. JBC gave no updates along the way. I could also talk about their opaque billing practices, how they're charging for labor hours that don't seem to line up with what I can see on my front door camera. Or how they have 3 guys show up for the same amount of time and yet one of them is charging for an extra half hour? Honestly I could go on and on. We definitely regret going with JBC for our job. I should have heeded my gut feeling when Tom said what he did. You definitely should.

I do not recommend Glacial Sewer and Construction. Max does not honor his workmanship . We hired…read morehim to replace our main water line and completely re pipe our rental house. We paid $12,000 for the work , only to discover a couple years later that he'd installed a brand new outdoor spigot replacement , yet did not run a water line to this spigot as it was before. Then when we called him to report this oversight he said he would come by and after that we've never heard from him again , and he will not even return our calls or a text . Now it's a year later , he still won't respond , and we will have to hire another plumber to do the work that we've already paid Max to do, because it's cheaper than trying to file a case for small claims. This , and Max lives blocks away from us! We hired Max because a neighbor referred him. We liked Max and have had no other problems from his work. But due to this experience I now see him as being of the "Fast and loose" style of workmanship and business owner. And its hard not to be angry that I've paid him $12,000 for this work and he now won't return a phone call or text , he's just blowing us off over one single cold water pipe length! What kind of business owner would lose a potential repeat client over such a small oversight? The neighbor who referred us won't be using him again either , or referring him because of this episode. I also recently noticed a posting that his contractors license was expired as of a couple months ago, although I did not verify that fact. So please be warned , Glacial Sewer and Construction appears to be a sketchy business to do business with , based on our experience.

So when I called, Bonnie answered, she was so pleasant on the phone, I knew I got a good one. It's a Friday, people are busy, but she was able to squeeze us in for the afternoon even last minute. Then John shows up to check the situation, was up front and honest with us. And the most economical way to fix the situation. Basically we only paid for the service call which was not much, and my husband will fix it himself. Plus John also referred a reliable contractor to remodel our home as well. So when we are ready to redo our whole house repiped, Drain Away will be the ones to call. Honest, reliable.

After…read moredealing with a leaky outdoor faucet that was stuck in the on position for 3 days, I was ready for anything. What I got was a pleasant and straightforward replacement experience and at a pretty fair price. I phoned the company around 10 this morning. Left a message with a young lady and had a call back within an hour. Aaron told me he would be to the house sometime after 1pm. TODAY! Aaron showed up almost exactly at 1pm! Score! He took a look at our 30 year old hose bib and gave me several options. We could try to fix it ourselves, he could try to fix it, or he could replace it. The cost difference for him to repair vs replace was not much (in the grand scheme of things) and after a quick phone call to the hubby, we decided to be done with it and not worry about it again for 15-20 years. Aaron had all of the necessary tools and parts in his truck (which was clean, newish, and well-maintained) and had the job done in about an hour. The job required a small square of drywall be removed for access and he was very careful not to make a mess. In fact, I don't think there was any dust left at all! He repacked the space with the insulation also, which was very kind. I was able to pay with a credit card (I think they will also take a check) and received a detailed invoice for future reference. He told me a job like this they would guarantee for 5 years, which sounds reasonable to me. I really can't thank Aaron and Drain Away enough. They are spot on, top notch. I would definitely call them again if need be, without hesitation.
