My 4-year-old son started class in October. He loves going to class every week! Martial arts is an excellent way for us to introduce structure and discipline. The instructors are so patient with the Tiger group. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have done a great job of keeping the facility clean and safe for everyone. It's been fantastic to see the growth in such a short time.

We were looking for something for my 8year old to be more active. He was willing to try karate and we started a trial here back in May. The trial is very affordable during that trial you really get a feel of what its all about. There are many classes during the week with different times they also are very flexible. Initially my son was a little apprehensive about hitting or being aggressive towards anybody but this is really giving him some confidence he never had. Not to hit anyone but to spar defend yourself speak up and be respectful they talk a lot about respect and what parent doesn't want that. We eventually signed him up he was able to get he's own gear and weapons he was even more excited !!! Overall we are very happy here this family business is doing something right there's tons of communication constantly with emails and staff as you are coming and going I also like that there are different instructors through out the week. You can tell they want you to succeed it's really up to the parent and child to show up and do the work. Thank you Maldonado family and staff!

I do not ordinarily write reviews, particularly negative ones, but after several months of…read morereflection I felt compelled to share my experience with Round Rock Karate Academy. I have chosen to remain anonymous for personal reasons. My children were unenrolled a few months ago, and I had initially hoped that, through communication and patience, some of my concerns would improve. Unfortunately, after repeated attempts to seek clarity, I ultimately lost confidence in the process. My greatest frustration was the lack of transparency regarding student progress. Children would continue training for many months, sometimes well over a year, without being invited to test, yet parents received little proactive feedback explaining what specifically needed improvement. Only when parents enquired about testing would concerns or explanations suddenly emerge. As a parent without a martial arts background, I was not expecting automatic advancement. However, I did expect clear communication and a structured pathway. The stripe testing process in particular felt inconsistent and unpredictable. Since stripe progression is required before belt testing, I expected there to be a clear schedule or at least some transparency around evaluations. Instead, stripe tests often seemed to occur without warning, leaving students unprepared and discouraged when they did not pass. The overall system increasingly gave the impression of being financially driven rather than genuinely developmental. Parents were repeatedly told never to ask about testing because instructors alone would decide when a child was ready. Whilst I appreciate maintaining standards, there appeared to be very little visible progress tracking or measurable roadmap for advancement. I was also disappointed by the conduct of one senior instructor in particular. I personally heard remarks directed towards students such as "don't waste my time" and "why are you begging for tests." Regardless of intent, I found that manner of communication inappropriate for an environment meant to foster confidence, discipline, and respect. To be fair, not all aspects of the school were negative. Several instructors like Mr Green, Ms Ani etc were genuinely kind, professional, and invested in the students' development. However, I also noticed some capable instructors leave over time, which added to my concerns regarding the overall culture. I should add that the overwhelmingly positive online reviews do not reflect many of the private conversations I have had with other parents over the years. Several expressed similar frustrations but felt reluctant to leave because of the considerable time and money already invested, as well as concerns that their children would effectively have to start again elsewhere. This review is not written out of bitterness, but after months of consideration and disappointment. I simply hope other parents find this perspective useful when making an informed decision.

Having been taught never to lay a hand on someone, especially girls, let alone pushing and grabbing, along with tumbling is still a learning process, but mostly positive. Its most difficult because he doesnt know what the martial arts is about. I even dont. Its not anout a knock out or hurting. He learns a move a day and may be repetitive the following day. But its not like karate where you might learn a move, repeat that quick motion, and move on. It had to be learned and almost instinctual. There are steps to follow for the move to be purposeful. Its difficult for my kid amongst others to comprehend and learn and that I (and theirs) need to pay attention from the narrow seating area to recreate at home to get the most of the teaching. Overall a good experience. Waiting to experience the Texas heat in the small space with large attendance. Btw, if you want "Brazilian" Jiu Jitsu, you'll get the emersive accent and light language barrier if you can handle it. Quite authentic culturally in this small local business. They seem to be very people loving, relaxed, yet strict with their dojo behavior as expected. I would actually appreciate more obedience and respect training like original japanese jiu jitsu.

First the good:…read more Master Yang and Master Higgins are outstanding instructors! They obviously have a love for Tae Kwon Do and for teaching in general. You and/or your child will likely learn a lot under their teaching. They will dedicate time to you and/or your child to help you along in the process. Now, for the disappointing: When you sign up, it appears you are signing a contract, which is completely understandable. As it turns out, not only are you signing a contract, you are applying for a loan, which will go on your credit report. Keep this in mind, as signing up (unless you are paying cash for everything up front) will likely impact your credit report, as it did ours.
