Malibu Apothecary is such a charming place to create your own custom perfume or candle! I attended one of their perfume-making workshops and absolutely loved the experience. I originally planned to make just one rollerball perfume, but I ended up creating two because I couldn't choose between all the incredible scents. I'm completely obsessed with how they turned out! You have someone helping you out throughout the process because there is some calculation involved when it's time to add the jojoba oil and that helped a lot. You can even buy the scents they have without mixing to create something custom! All perfumes are oil based so they last all day! Since my first visit, I've gone back to pick up gifts for friends, and I'm already planning another workshop. The atmosphere is welcoming, the experience is fun and creative, and you leave with something that's completely unique to you. I love that they use non-toxic ingredients! This is the first candle-making experience where I didn't get a headache from the strong smells. Serenity explained the process of blending our scents and was entertaining (after we earned her good graces lol). Had a great experience at the candle making workshop. I'm a born and raised So Cal girl, the type if you ask if I'm a beach or mountain lover... I can't choose because I adore them both. I'll bag a peak any day but if you're sitting ashore you'll be lucky to spot my head far enough out to make you a little nervous, a true mermaid if you will. Having recently relocated to a what might as well be considered a landlocked state (as far North as I am) with no mountains, I was intrigued by the offerings reminding me of home (Malibu & Laguna) and other travels. I booked a class online for bestie and I to partake in over the weekend. Candle making is pretty straight forward, the type of thing I often wonder why Queen of Hobbies hasn't started at home already ;) I also love a great class though! I love learning a craft in a group setting with instruction. We sniffed our way through a variety of beach offerings, each gravitating towards different choices and creating our own special mash up. The jars are all pretty colors, and pouring your wax was really fun. Knowing we created these yummy varietals is what made the entire experience special. I loved the Canva template offerings for custom labels. I picked something very simple and didn't bother really jazzing it up this time around but every part of the experience was a true delight. We have to wait 5 days until we burn them if we want to get the 50 hours of burn time and little miss impatient is counting down. I can't wait to smell my creation. Malibu Apothecary is truly a neighborhood gem that sparks joie! I can't wait to bring my Mom and Sister here. My cousin and I reserved a Perfumery Workshop and had to cancel and they gladly emailed us a gift card to reschedule, so we rescheduled and honestly the scent I created will now be my FOREVER scent. I felt like we were one of the first groups that did the fragrance/perfume class. I loved the way my perfume smelled, but I felt like the class was a bit disorganized! The woman that led the class wasn't particularly friendly. They had refreshments like wine and snacks for the class, but the instructor didn't tell anyone. There wasn't really a "class" per se. You were given a bunch of scents to smell and play around on your own. Very hands off! I also HATE the way my label looks. Why give a label that's way too big for the perfume bottle? I and my friend were in the area looking for an activity to do and this one popped up. We saw that it was happening close to where we were and it was relatively affordable. I'd also never been candle making, and had always been interested in going to a class. We were greeted by Yolanda who was a fantastic and patient instructor. We started off mixing scents on tester strips based on the scent notes we liked. After we figured out what scents we liked together, we mixed the oils together to our liking. Afterwards we picked the jar we wanted for our candle, and then given the soy base to mix the oil in. We were also given a chance to create a label however we liked. While the candle set, we got wine and snacks, games or walked around. After about 1.5 - 2 hours we had a lovely candle to take home. read more

I had such an amazing time today at Malibu apothecary. Clear Med is at the door and showed us to our perfume making area. She was very knowledgeable about the sense it was very patient with us as we began to create our own personal fragrances. She created such a wonderful environment and even helped those in the party who weren't as creative with their scent. She personally made these sense and noted that they were based off a places that she's lived and or traveled to. She was very friendly and so helpful throughout the entire process. There are several other parties there while we were making our sense but we did not feel overlooked at all. This is definitely a wonderful experience that I would look forward to doing again. An additional plus to this location is the ability to reorder since in different formulations- candles, room sprays, Etc.
