Lovely server, great coffee, and love the early opening time! The ambience is very boho

A friend and I were seeking a coffee shop with a patio on a nice day this past Sat. and we happened upon this venue around 5:30 - 6 pm. We were able to order right away and we both chose a regular decaf. coffee with milk. The service was quite friendly and Mallo displayed quite a bit of character in their interior decor. Practically every seat inside was taken but since we wanted a patio we sat on their bench just outside the entrance. A nice, convenient spot for a drink and/or snack, close to the subway and many other amenities. read more

This place is so stinking cute. I walked in and it was like the biggest warm welcome ever. Server was so so friendly and I love that this place is queer friendly. This place is a hole in the wall diner that seems to be quite popular but it's also one of the only places in the city that opens up at 6am in the morning. And I love the music selection they have!! All music I've been listening to recently so it was so vibey. They're accommodating with the menu ingredients too. I ordered a smoked salmon sandwich that looks like the bread was made in house and I got to switch out the cream cheese with hummus. (It was delicious by the way.) This place pretty much Had me dancing in my seat. And you can stay for as long as you wish! If you're in a rush for quick breakfast or need a place to chill out for a bit... it's like those diners in movies where you can just make friendly with everyone. So cute. So so sooo cute. read more

I visited Mallo for the first time today to get out of the cold while my photos were being processed at Annex photo. I was not disappointed. The first thing I noticed was how lively this place is. Every seat was occupied, except a single chair in the corner of the cafe, which I took until a seat at the bar became available. One of the lovely baristas offered to bring out a small stool so I could have a 'table' to rest my drink. The music is very loud, so I wouldn't recommend bringing a book, but it seems like a fun spot to hang out with friends. The interior is very cool. I especially love the neon lights hanging from the ceiling. The coffee is average. I ordered a latte, and nothing about it was exciting, but I have nothing to complain about, either. I would bring a friend the next time I come back! read more

A cafe/bar tucked away just south of Bathurst Station with super friendly staff and a very cool aesthetic. I grabbed a matcha latte and it was fine, but nothing special. The highlight of this place is definitely the vibes and ambiance. Getting some work done during the day is possible (though music is loud so I'd recommend noise-canceling headphones), but once it gets dark and the neon lights come on it may be hard on the eyes. Might not be my first pick when I need to get work done, but it'd def be one of my top picks if I want to grab a coffee/beer with friends and show them a cool gem in the Annex! read more

Wonderful tucked away cafe with loud music and a friendly, thicc dog outside sometimes. There is no menu but they serve all the espresso based drinks you know of. Yesterday I wanted lemonade though and they made a fantastic one! read more

I went here for a quick coffee date and I loved the atmosphere of the cafe. It's super indie and there's just something cozy about this spot. The staff is friendly and you can tell there are many regulars here. It is consistently lively but not overtly loud. Definitely a good spot to get some work done as well if you like this type of atmosphere. read more

Small selection of nice fresh baked goods to eat, coffee is balanced (no drip, only espresso based). Staff seem detached and aloof (on both visits-different staff). Cool decor, though I could do without the scribble war pertaining to the Middle East all over the bathroom walls. read more

I love this place. The staff are some of the loveliest people I have met in our neighbourhood and they always make me and my daughters feel welcome. I have bought coffee here, I have bought beer here, I have bought food here, and I have bought art here. Prior to the pandemic, seeing the staff's faces was a lovely touchstone on my Saturday mornings after dropping my oldest off for dance class across the street. This place and the people in it are a lovely gem in the Annex's crown. read more

I tried Volta Espresso this morning. I wanted to get out of the house and relax with a coffee before the busyness of the day. I always go to Starbucks but it finally occurred to me that I really should check out the indie coffee shops near me. This cafe is really small and wonderful. The barista was such a nice guy and really kind to the customers. I enjoyed chatting with him. I bought a mocha and a muffin. When I order a mocha from the big chain coffee shops I always ask for "half sweet" so it isn't too sugary. I forgot to ask here and for the first time in my life a coffee shop made a mocha exactly to my taste! It wasn't too sweet at all, it was perfect (and I didn't need to add sugar.) It also looked gorgeous. I loved it. The muffin was delish and tasted really fresh to me. It must have been baked not too long before I came in. Prices are also really great. The window is so nice and sunny and the music choice is perfect. There's also a little bench out front. It's actually so sunny that next time if I come on a sunny day I'll take my coffee to a park to enjoy it. Must be nice on a cold winter day though to go to Volta for some sunshine. I live so close, I'll definitely enjoy coming back often! read more

Service: very friendly owner, prompt service. Ambience: small shop but love the music. It will be a nice place to relax and re-energize yourself. Food: coffee is very good. We had a cappuccino and Americano. The drinks get very nice crema. Espresso is strong since he served the drink with 10 grams for one shot vs 7 grams for normal Italian espresso. Love the drinks here. Highly recommend this place if you are in the Mirvish Village neighbourhood. read more

Came across this gem as my husband and I were trying to kill some time during our daughter's dance class. We both had The Ted breakfast sandwich alongside Oat Lattes. Both items were made fresh to perfection! The bacon was crisp, the eggs were fluffy and the English muffin was warm and soft. We then decided to treat ourselves to their sea salt chocolate chip cookie which might I add was made in house! It was soft and chewy and perfectly sweetened with a hint of salt. On top of the amazing food and coffee, the staff here aresuper welcoming. Will definitely be visiting this place every week! read more

Great coffee, friendly staff, nice interior. Music isn't really what you'd expect from the average coffee shop (lots of loud hip hop), so if that's your vibe, then that's a plus, but could be a minus for some. They also have a surprisingly good craft beer selection! read more

I pass by this place on my way to work on the streetcar everyday, I decided to walk today and finally had the opportunity to go in. I ordered the cappuccino and muffin to go. The cappuccino was amazing and wasn't expensive at all! The muffin was not your conventional flavor and was also pretty good. The barista was very friendly and the coffee shop had a cosy feel. Volta Espresso just opened up, and is a charming new cafe right on Bathurst Street, essentially across from the TTC station. Their drinks are affordable (starting at $3, and going up to $4), and delicious. The owners are genuinely engaged in their business and delighted to meet the customers and serve them their amazing creations. Barely here for about two months, it's a good discovery! The coffee bean consists of a mixed blend. Miscela classica espresso blend would be a staple moving forward and I love how it has a slight bitter taste after. The barista/ owner is a joy chat with besides making a good cuppa. This place is cute an a two minute walk from my place. i like the fact that its affordable as in a won't have to pay an arm and a leg for a cup. I got the mocha in a large and it was only 4 bucks. Like damn! There a fair amount of place to move around and sit. For the most part, its a small little coffee shop. Their menu is on the wall and ask about their snacks. Payment option is cash or credit so be prepared. I didn't know but my bank was near so not a bad thing. The employee is nice and the place is inviting so for sure a place i'd be visiting more often. This is a sacred place in our neighborhood. A gathering place for artists and freelances where they could meet new people and build a social circle over coffee. During COVID it's become a quick drop in for coffee and kind words and their insanely delicious sandwiches. The people who run this shop are community builders who know how to handle a rush line so that no one is ever kept waiting and put the extra care into keeping their customers safe. Small gem right by Bathurst station. The Barista was super friendly and was easy on us taking photos of our drinks. This place is mostly for takeout, and a small iced Mocha costs only $4. You can adjust your sweet level by adding sugar by yourself to the espresso cup before the barista makes the drink. I find this cool :) read more

I was made to feel unwelcome. The barista gave preferential to people under 40. by serving 3 people behind me in line. I had to say something just to get a coffee. Choice espresso coffee here folks! Delicate crema, deep roasted and full bodied. These guys have selected a delightful roast and are super particular about the freshness and feel of the brew. The quintessential local cafe that pulls a proper strong espresso shot. The rad barista/ co-owner Raif is a foam master and seems to know all the clientele's names and occupations. He says the pastries (croissants, tarts, danishes here today) are from Circles and Squares but they bake the muffins in-house. Today's was delish, despite being ultra refined white flour: blueberry strawberry banana. They don't take debit (yet, hopefully soon) and there's not a lot of space in here - just a few barstools at a bench overlooking the transit traffic, the row of old brick three-story duplexes, and passersby like sleepy-eyed new moms pushing strollers and packs of private school kids wandering home with their ties askew. read more

Right across the street from Bathurst Station, I stumbled into this cozy little cafe when it started to rain. Barista was very nice and The Strokes were playing. I ordered an iced Americano ($3), it was good, strong, but found some coffee ground remnants at the bottom (not a huge deal, just not ideal when drinking out of a straw). There is a big window and a few bar stools, nice for a little break. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area to try a latte. read more

My favourite coffee place in Toronto and *exactly* what was needed at Bathurst and Bloor. Tasty coffee, awesome staff, a cool casual vibe, and homemade muffins (they switch it up every day -- my favourite is rhubarb/walnut). There are only a few seats, and a bench out front, but I usually grab my coffee on the go anyhow. Highly recommend! read more
