We weren't sure where to eat since we were just visiting. We noticed that there were a lot of pubs and taverns. Saint John's looked like it had a good menu and cool atmosphere. Did not disappoint. It was packed on a Wednesday at 5p. We didn't make a reservation like we normally would. We were still able to be seated in the upstairs bar area. Our server was very nice and a lot of fun. After our first subpar visit, the management team reached out and invited us back to make up for our previous experience. We decided to give it another shot during the same happy hour that initially brought us in, and Alia, the manager, quickly arranged a reservation for us. Long story short: they more than made up for the last visit--by a long shot. This time, Jeremy was our server, and he went above and beyond to make sure we had an amazing experience. It was a stark contrast to our first visit, and his attentiveness really stood out. The manager that night also stopped by the table to introduced herself to make sure everything was going well. The speakers are still a bit loud, and the lighting still is on the dim side, but otherwise, this place is absolutely worth visiting. A buddy and I who were in Toronto on a long weekend for a few concerts, stopped into Saint John's for a late night meal on a Friday night. The bar area was crowded but we were quickly seated and the waitress came by for our drink order. We then ordered a few meals and I had the chicken pot pie. It was excellent! The other day, I visited Saint John's Tavern as me and my friend were looking for a good spot to watch the World Cup Final. Luckily we got a spot and we had a grand of a time enjoying the game with some classic fare! As the game was in the early morning, I ordered the Classic English Breakfast and it was worth the $18 for the amount of food! The beans were the big highlight as I wish more was provided since there were very good! Normally you would choose between sausage and bacon, but you get both on this plate! The menu options are sparse, however, it does show the tavern's commitment to quality! The environment of the tavern is warm and welcoming and definitely a place I would come back to! read more

I'm writing this review after my second visit. I came for Saturday drinks with a friend and fries on my first visit. The second visit was a full meal with a another friend. I got the mushroom toast and it was really delicious. It came with fries and I found the portion perfect for the price. The cost is on par with all of the other spots in the area. I like how they have vegan options clearly labelled on the menu. I sat outside both times and it's a nice little patio. Inside is loud and low lighting with big tvs. A fun atmosphere before a game, to watch a game, or if you go later they have DJs. Sitting inside isn't going to allow you to have conversation, but it is a really fun atmosphere. The service is great. There are always staff bopping around. You can book a table and I was happy on the Saturday of my first visit we walked in and didn't have to wait long for a seat outside. read more

Small simple bar with good food. Went here for the night before a friends wedding- they rented out the entire bar from 5-7:30pm. They passed around Cheese on crackers, and had plates of wings, fries and a veggie platter. Solid bar food. After our event was over, they strangely kept pushing the entire party into a crammed spot and seemed so annoyed we were there. We were constantly in the way.. a lot. Mind you it was a cash bar- we were PAYING customers. It was uncomfortable. Four star food, two star service. I was excited to try a new British-style pub in my area and we made a reservation for two at the bar last Saturday. We were greeted and seated pretty quickly, although nobody actually checked our reservation on the system which made it a bit pointless to begin with. The bartender was the only server behind the bar and was run off his feet, even though it was not very busy when we arrived. He explained that they had no bottled beer as their fridge hadn't been installed, which was fine. I had water, my partner had a mixed drink. We ordered the French onion beef dumpling to start, I ordered the West-Indian chicken curry and my partner ordered the bone marrow as it's very hard to find on restaurant menu (RIP Black Hoof). We added on a side of fries to share. From this point on, nobody checked in on us to see if we wanted to order more food/drinks. The only communication after ordering our food was when we had to wave them down to ask for the bill. The owner/manager was behind the bar the entire time and kept talking over our (and other customers) heads at people entering the bar which was pretty annoying as there were hosts who were supposed to be doing that. The music was also WAY too loud for 6pm on a Saturday evening, and I found myself constantly shouting over it to be able to make a conversation with the person sitting next to me. When our food arrived, we found the beef dumpling to be delicious and very flavourful, although the dumpling itself was crispy and not soft as I would have expected. The bone marrow was delicious and came with simple toast to spread it on. The curry, on the other hand, was a very small portion and didn't really have much flavour. I expected such a dish to be much spicier and more flavourful, but it was all a bit bland. The garlic naan managed to be dry and oily at the same time, and also completely flavourless. The fries with old bay seasoning were delicious and crispy, but I didn't care for either the HP sauce or curry mayo that they came with. We also asked for malt vinegar twice but it never arrived which was disappointing. Once we had finished our meal and flagged down the manager (having not been asked if we wanted anything else) our bill was simply put on the table without a word, nor did either the server or manager ask if we were happy with the food or service. At $110 tax and tip for one drink, a starter and two mains, I definitely had higher expectations. Maybe they're still learning the ropes as they've only been open a month, but I won't be in a hurry back. read more

Omg I loved this place so much. I went yesterday and we were immediately sat by the lovely hostess. Our server, jordan, was so nice and attentive. The club sandwich that I had was divine. I've never had a chicken club that good. I can't believe it. I wish I had ordered 4 more. The side salad was so delicious too. The beer selection was great. But that chicken club. Was so good. This has to be one of the most beautiful bars in the Area, Amazing wrap around Bar provides a lot of space for walk in's and their patio is extremely cozy. We sat at the bar, got greeted right away, ordered the bangers and mash (8.5/10) and my friend got the burger (at least a 12/10). The Service from the Bartender (Charlie i believe) was amazing, as busy as he was we did not feel neglected and were checked upon constantly. Food arrived fast and we managed to catch the game in time, would 100% suggest it for anyone that is curious about it. Another waiter or table manager came by canceled our order and said that they don't allow take out and we were standing in the way. He was extremely rude and I suspect racist and hence would not allow us to do take out. Online google clearly states dine-in and takeaway. I am appalled by the rude attitude and hostility. We dropped into this pub on a whim after meeting one of the owners out front. How lucky we were that this was the best pub/tavern that we'd had in our 4 days of being in Toronto for a work trip. The fish and chips were fantastic, burgers delicious and perfectly cold beer to match. To top it off, we shared a few desserts that were equally amazing! The atmosphere and service were spot on.
