I was a bit nervous booking an appointment because I have had some terrible experiences last few months after my good friend/stylist had to stop to care for her 3 gorgeous babies. Yea, that's pretty bad though I must say I did a pretty fair job thanks to my husband who helped straighten out the back a little :) So I checked out the reviews, crossed my fingers and held my breath because I booked the appointment for a time right before my shift started. So I had NO time to "fix it" before heading in to work. Charlotte had just finished up with a client as I walked in. She was very friendly, told me to have a seat so she could sweep and then welcomed me over to her seat. She was very attentive and receptive to what I wanted done. She told me what she would be doing and I closed my eyes and and thought happy thoughts as she massaged my head during the hair washing and then again, during the start of the hair cutting. She knew I was a little apprehensive so she kept me talking and seemed very genuine when she asked me questions about my kids, and life etc. As she worked she asked me what I thought and made sure that's what I wanted. Very sweet girl. When she was done I asked her to add a little volume to the top of my flat head and without hesitation she did that and once she was all done, I LOVED it! Very happy with Charlotte who by the way added me to her Monday schedule when it's super difficult to find someone! Also very happy with Jenn who was very prompt in returning my email. She also worked with my schedule because I work nights and I need the latest appointment available so I'm sure she had to coordinate with Charlotte. I had to change one of my choices because I went out on a date with my husband and she was sweet telling me to have a great night with him. She could have just ignored that but she chose to add a little bit of personality to what could have been a very impersonal email. That says a lot to me. Mia is a nice lady however her braiding is very substandard…read more I took my Son to her shop to have his mid back natural hair braided. 1st issue she text me several times pushing my appt time back; once I arrived she was not there. when she finally did arrive she looked puzzled and asked if I had an appt. I had to show her the text messages going back and forth. There was also another client waiting as well and she advised us that one of her braiders did not show up. My appt was with her and she asked if she could wash the other clients hair first and then start on my sons hair. I told her yes. After washing the other clients hair she proceeded braiding there hair which push our time back even more. When she finally got to my sons hair I noticed she was not braiding it in the style I ask for (Fishstyle). I showed her the photo that was previously provided to her and advised her she told me she could do this type of braiding. She took it down and started over. After going back and forth on the way the fishstyle was looking I gave up and told her it was fine. She proceeded braiding his hair. I was about to get up and leave but my Son(8 years old) begged me to stay so he could get his hair braided. I notice she was braiding very fast like she was in a rush; note she also did the previous client like this as well. Her braiding was terrible and she took no care in my sons hair. As I stated before my son has very long thick natural hair. I take great pride in caring for the state and health of my sons hair this is why it is so long and thick. Mia was ripping and pulling thru his hair with her fingers braiding very fast. All I asked for was fishstyle cornrows going to the back and she had a combination of big uneven fishstyle braids and regular braids. In addition she braided so tightly the braids were bunched up going down his back. My sons braids looked like they were weeks old. The appearance was not neat, she put little to no gel in his hair and the different combinations was awful looking. A few days later I took his braids down because I couldn't stand to see his hair in that state any further. Upon taking his braids out he experienced lots of shedding and tangles from the way she braided. This was my first experience with Africans touching my sons hair and we will be the last. I now wonder if the photos she has posted is actually her work. She told me she prides herself on being the fastest braider in Austin. Who cares about you being fast when the end result is ugly braids while ripping your clients hair out! You need to educate yourself on how to properly care for clients hair while utilizing professional products.
