(3.75 stars) Malone Specialty Coffee operates a roastery/café at 14735 Bratton Lane and a trailer at 318 East Fifth Street. I stopped by the latter in search of coffee and a smoothie and found a decent selection of both (they also have bagels if you are so inclined). The helpful barista recommended a Southside Caramel, and I paired that with a Green Power smoothie. The caramel latte came with a dash of cinnamon, and it was quite good: sweet but not cloying. While the smoothie (spinach, pineapple, OJ, and protein) tasted good as well, it proved a bit chunky and difficult to drink (poor straw construction, perhaps?). This was neither the best coffee I had in Austin nor the worst, but at the very least, it's a convenient option for those near the Convention Center. read more

I've ordered twice and I am trying to give a fair rating for my two very different experiences. The first day that I ordered I got the Southside Caramel and the Austin Dream. The Southside Caramel was my favorite and was just so good! It was exactly what I think of when I want an iced coffee! The Austin Dream was richer so I liked it just a bit less but it was really good and I think is perfect for chocolate lovers. I definitely enjoyed it. This review would have been a 5 star review. I thought this would be a regular order for me. The second time I got the Southside Caramel again, the 4 Leaf Clover and the Rockstar bagel. The bagel was only just a bit of cream cheese, and I would have liked a second container. The 4 Leaf Clover was bitter and not very enjoyable or flavorful. Once it sat in my fridge for a few hours and became watered down it was more enjoyable.....so ya.....not good. And my Southside Caramel tasted burnt and was bitter and it tasted so awful that I could not save it with more ice/creamer/water/sugar or anything. Overall, I threw both coffees away without finishing either and ordered more coffee from another place. This was a 1 star experience. Since one experience was a 5 star and the other a 1 star I feel like 3 stars is fair, but neither experience was average. I feel like giving this place another shot is basically throwing my money away, but I will probably give it a third go to redeem themselves. But its a 50/50 if your coffee will taste like heaven or dirt with cilantro syrup. read more

Five stars for the kindest service and absolutely delectable coffee. Came by on a Saturday morning after a run and I didn't have a card on me- I thought I could pay with Apple Pay but unfortunately couldn't. Tried to download cash app to pay but didn't have any cards to input in for payment. The guy taking my order said "don't worry about it, we got you!". Ugh, as if that wasn't sweet enough- the coffee? Amazing. I got the caramel/cinnamon coffee from his recommendation and I can't wait to stop by here again if I'm ever back in Austin. I'm not sure how this taste was achieved- it tasted like a sweet horchata coffee. Definitely stop by! But bring your credit card!! This place deserves the world! read more

TLDR: a decent coffee truck giving interesting sweet coffee drinks, stuck amongst stiff competition It seems like there's coffee almost everywhere in downtown Austin which is great if you like exploring new places but the competition is harder and it makes sticking out difficult. Malones is a nice truck with a nice location. I'm sure you've seen the truck if you've been through downtown Austin. The menu features some more creative beverages. If you're going to go with one of the signature lattes note the amount of espresso they use and it seems to be a shot more than what I'm used to. I ordered my latte and it came out in a timely manner. It wasn't particularly crowded when I went on a Friday afternoon. It's a nice spot, not a place I would go regularly but it will remain in my rotation especially when my sweet tooth comes calling. Austin Dream Signature Latte: Ordered a medium iced. I didn't get much vanilla but the dark chocolate really sang through. The first thing that hits is the sweetness of the drink. It would be nice if they turned down the syrup a little so I could taste a little bit of espresso. Despite two shots being included I couldn't really taste it. 7/10. read more

In my effort to support local businesses during the ShinerBockVirus, I cycled up to Malone's to try their coffee and food as I perused the empty streets of downtown. The truck was perrty easy to find, between San Jac. and Trinity, on 5th Street - right next to the Westin. It's bright blue decals are hard to miss. Must be great to wake up each morning next to nice, affordable coffee. This ride I indulged myself in my first Butter Coffee and a turkey (I believe that was the meat - could be wrong) pesto croissant. This is obviously skewed as I haven't partaken in other butter coffees, but I thought it was pretty good - nice full butter taste, deep coffee aroma. Really filled up the tummy. I've learned that butter coffee is an option for keto diets, and I can understand why. I am now very interested in trying out other butter coffees around town to compare. On the other hand, the turkey pesto was decent. Nothing to write home to. It filled the tummy, but obviously it's "Malone Specialty Coffee", not "Malone Specialty Pesto Croissants" - so can't complain. Overall - I'd swing by again and try their other coffees given that I enjoyed their Butter Coffee. If I needed a snack, then I'd partake in another food item, but it isn't the first thing on my list to eat. read more

I love trying local coffee spots when I'm traveling, so I'm glad Malone popped up on my search. I got a small instant karma, which was white chocolate almond rocca flavored. Yum! I also got a ham and havarti and honey croissant, which was good. I never thought of adding honey to my savory sandwiches, but now I know! I just wish there was a little more turkey and the havarti was more melted. Staff was super nice and helpful! Give them a try if you're in town! read more

I am here in Austin on business and had the unfortunate luck of having breakfast at Malone. I ordered a coffee and a breakfast burrito. No hyperbole, the breakfast burrito was the worst food item I have eaten in a decade. It was labeled "Wednesday" and it was Saturday. Now the optimists in the group might think it had three more days, but no. The eggs said other wise. They were rubber. Old tasting. Cold. It was terrible. The coffee was fine, but not "special." Whatever you do, do not come here. The works give out food to the homeless so they are always handing around the area. They also give them coffee and the homeless will touch all the straws. Also the works seemed very tweaky, like they might be from the streets too. I randomly went to get a coffee here because I was cold, tired and the truck was next to my hotel. To my surprise it was the same truck that used to be on 290 at the Y and had my favorite coffee EVER!! OMG - talk about an instant pick me up! I normally don't post reviews, although I often use the reviews to determine where to go while on vacation. But the service at Malone's Coffee in Austin was so great that I needed to write a review. Paul, the owner, was so kind. I ubered 30 minutes from my AirBnB to get his coffee, based on the high yelp reviews. Only once I arrived did I realize my wallet was in a different purse from going out last night. I asked If they accepted Apple Pay, in hopes that I could still get coffee! They did not, but Paul still offered a free coffee to me. I got the Nitro cold brew, with agave and almond milk. It is very creamy and perfect for the 90* day. I will definitely be back during my stay in Austin. Customer Service and kindness go a long way. Paul knows how to run his business and the coffee is locally roasted and unbelievable. Quite flavorful. Admittedly, after going out of my way to walk to the truck and looking over the menu, I thought I would be underwhelmed and was a little disappointed that I didn't just go to one of my regular spots, but the drink more than made up for it. The cinnamon and caramel notes really came through in the Southside Caramel latte... in an authentic way, not a syrup-y one. No oat milk and no discount for bringing your own cup, but a delightfully delicious coffee pit stop nonetheless. TLDR: amazing price, free local delivery, great quality specialty coffee beans. After an initial logistical hurdle (which was promptly resolved), I was able to try their Ethiopia and Mexico whole bean coffee. The beans are roasted quite nicely, with no hints of over-roasting whatsoever (I find some other local roasters to be way too dark, such as Mozart's or even Summer Moon) and beautiful aroma. For the price, Malone is a top pick in the Austin area. While both are medium roasts, I would say the Ethiopian has more light roast characteristics than the Mexican, which is very balanced. I have tried each as a pour-over and iced latte, and I would recommend the Ethiopian for pour-over and the Mexican for espresso drinks. read more

What a great little find! I stayed at the Westin downtown Austin this past weekend and noticed this place just outside as I was walking my dog. Decided to check it out on Yelp and noticed people had recommended the Butter coffee with dark chocolate. I was sold! And man, that was delicious! Super smooth, not overpowering but very delicious. The owner was very polite and explained the selection he offered, which was much appreciated. The butter coffee, from my understanding, is coffee mixed with some butter and coconut oil. And then the dark chocolate add in gave it a mocha taste. Pricing was a little higher, but for a downtown location, I feel it's fair. What a little gem! A coffee shop on wheels. I've been to the location downtown. This one is on the corner of an Heb in pflugerville. It's quite the treat. Not as sweet as other coffee shops. Love me some Malone coffee as a mid day pick me up or a morning wake up drink. I wish there were more of these. The different flavors are quite delicious together not like other coffee shops. Walked down here on a Wednesday morning around 10 AM for some coffee. I got the Austin Dream. It was a bit milkier than I was expecting but still good. I waited in line for a bit and because they are a food truck service was a bit slow but that was to be expected. After ordering my drink, I waited at one of the tables nearby for 15 minutes before my bf got his drink. I stood nearby and they still didn't have my drink ready and the guy noticed me and asked me what drink I had and that was when they finally made my drink.
