    Coffee julep
    Zac G.

(3.5 stars) On paper, I should like Houndstooth far more than I actually did. It offers a clean, convenient location, courteous baristas, and fairly good coffee. I had a coffee julep (Americano with mint) during a recent visit, and it provided a welcome afternoon pick-me-up. True, it was overpriced, but the same can be said for much in Downtown Austin. Perhaps what puts me off Houndstooth is its lack of personality. This place didn't get the Keep Austin Weird memo. If that doesn't bother you, however, it's a decent option for a caffeine fix.

Nice local coffee spot in a convention center area. Ordered their vanilla latte which was really good, priced well especially considering the area and they also use house made syrups for all their drinks which makes it that much more special. Plenty of seating as well which makes it nice to catch up with friends or get some work done. Friendly baristas as well!

The coffee at Houndstooth hits just right--hot, bold, and confident enough to make you sit up a little straighter after the first sip. It's not trying to reinvent the bean; it's just really good coffee done right. The muffin? Moist and tasty (yeah, I said it), a perfect sidekick to the star of the show. The staff? Friendly, chill, and genuinely pleasant--no corporate "have a nice day" robot voices here. It's not the kind of place that'll make you weep tears of espresso-fueled joy, but it's solid, reliable, and definitely deserving of four stars.

Great, local, coffee shop showcasing their espresso and teas! I really enjoyed their latte with their homemade honey syrup and oat milk. The espresso was not bitter and had a good well rounded taste to it. Get their seeded croissant or other baked goods. The service was friendly and cafe had a decent amount of indoor and outdoor seating.

Honestly, the girls behind the coffee bar were kicking butt & taking names! They did such a great job of managing the Sunday rush, I really enjoyed watching them from the seats on the side of the bar. My fiancé and I got 2 iced vanilla oatmilk lattes and thoroughly enjoyed them. Very minimal flavors, so it makes me think that syrups are made in house. Will be back next time we're in Austin.

Nice coffee shop walking distance to where we are staying in Austin Not a large menu but drinks were good and shared a pastry Inside is rustic and they have a large outdoor space to drink!

Clean, aesthetically pleasing spot in downtown Austin. Barista was friendly. They definitely know what they're doing. Ordered cappuccinos and they were excellent. Good quality beans.

Wonderful coffee aroma as soon as you walk into Houndstooth Coffee. The space feels warm and inviting and makes you want to stay awhile. I ordered the Heart of Texas with soy milk, which had a delicious blend of strawberries and chocolate. The baristas were friendly and welcoming. I also grabbed a Tacodeli breakfast taco, Papa's with egg and cheese and medium salsa, and it really hit the spot. I would definitely come back and am already looking forward to trying a vanilla or lavender latte next time.

Service was really quick. Great location in downtown Austin. Good coffee. Inside was clean and easy to get around. Not very big or designed to hang out. But a good little spot with good coffee.

Very convenient place to stop by if you work downtown. Below the icon Frost Tour. Space inside and outside for meetings, chats with friends or solo caffeine runs. Plenty of caffeine to choose from, my go to is an ice latte with vanilla (basic guy), they also have pastries and tacos from Taco Deli. Taco Deli is around block away and they taste better freshly made.

Was visiting Austin over memorial weekend and stopped in here before exploring the city for the day. The staff could tell we were visiting from out of state and were super welcoming and even provided local recommendations. We opted for vanilla lattes, and they were perfectly sweet and the espresso was so smooth.

Solid spot if you're wanting a quick coffee in Downtown Austin. There wasn't a line when we walked in mid Sunday morning. Service wasn't the liveliest, but they were quick and made a mean latte. The vanilla latte was exactly what I needed after a night out and the iced matcha was good too.

This is cute downtown coffee shop. They make their own syrups. It has an industrial vibe. The coffee is very tasty. We didn't have any food but there are some sandwiches in a case to grab, and pastries in a different case, and Breakfast Tacos available to order. I liked that they had for here cups available. Just probably avoid the bathroom if you can, it's downtown and there's no lock on the bathroom

Compared to Caphein, Dam has a more relaxed vibe with additional seating, which makes it a great place to hang out or get some work done. I noticed it's also a popular study spot for students, so a few extra outlets would be a nice touch. That aside, every matcha I've ordered here has been amazing in both flavor and consistency. The matcha taste actually comes through, and the drinks never feel too watered down or overly sweet. Overall, Dam is easily staying at the top of my Austin matcha list and is a spot I'd keep coming back to.

There are some tables, and big comfy couches around a coffee table in the middle of the bar which is where we sat. I had one of their happy hour cocktails that was similar to a creamy espresso martini, and they are 50% off on happy hour days/times! My friend got one of their floral cocktails which wasn't discounted but I LOVED it personally. I also got a strawberry matcha drink (non alcoholic) that was a little too sweet in my opinion; I finished it but wouldn't get it again. Overall though the cocktails and vibe in there are worth a visit alone! When it's not too hot, the area outside has little mini-chandeliers and is also very vibey.

My beautiful girlfriend, traveling home from Vancouver, had a morning layover in Austin just recently on a weekday, and I got us a reservation to Paperboy East. Compared to the weekends, their schedule was a lot more open. On the weekends it can be nearly impossible to get a spot unless it's a few weeks in advance. We had a reservation at 8 am right when they opened, and when we walked in, we were seated immediately. The place looks like a modern twist on the old-school diners your grandparents love. There's also an upstairs and downstairs patio. Plenty of space! We were sat at one of the two-person tables. To start, I ordered their house drip coffee while my girlfriend got their "Lil Remi," an iced cappuccino with salted caramel. The black coffee was excellent and flavorful, while my girlfriend thought her Lil Remi was like a milkier shaken espresso that she really liked. From their starters, we ordered their Blueberry Lemon Pop Tart to share. I am a sucker for a homemade Pop Tart, and the jam on the inside was extremely fresh, and the icing and crust of the Pop Tart itself was sturdy and full of flavor. For our entrees, I ordered their Texas Hash with added avocado while my girlfriend ordered their famous Paperboy Pancake with chocolate chips as a full breakfast with bacon and two over-hard eggs. It wasn't a long wait at all to get our food. The Texas hash looked great and was presented quite nicely, which is a shame because I immediately proceeded to mash it all together to make sure every bite had a perfect balance of the roasted pork, sweet potatoes, egg, and avocado. It was very filling and substantial, which is great because I needed it to last me up to dinner. The pancake is the star of the show and is worth the order alone. The flying saucer they serve rises like a cake in the oven and is extremely fluffy. She was surprised with how it was a traditional pancake but loved how moist it was for its size. A perfect pancake to her. A perfect pancake to me because she couldn't finish it, so I took it to go and ate the last few bites immediately after dropping her off at the airport. For being an upscale diner in the prime area of Austin, I knew Paperboy was going to be pricey, but I honestly thought that it would crack $100 before tip between the two of us. I was very happy to see it was not even close to that and cost us about $80 with tip. To me, that felt fair for Austin, and I would pay that price any day of the week for a breakfast like we had. I've had a few of the locally owned brunch and breakfast spots in Austin and concur with the masses that this sits strongly at the top of the list. Best pancakes, best atmosphere, and the best times.
