My cousin and I were basically playing hide and seek because I couldn't find where she was. Lol. I had a hard time finding it, but once I finally did totally worth it! This cozy bookstore feels like stepping back in time. Shelves are stacked with a mix of used, vintage, and classic books, and honestly... they smell like it too. Lol. There's just something comforting about that old-book scent. You'll find everything from fiction and poetry to rare finds and children's titles tucked in the corners. It's small, quiet, and slightly perfectly imperfect in the best way because every shelf feels like a treasure hunt! The nostalgic vibe makes you want to linger a little longer. Priced fair, service is fast. If you love books with history and personality, this is a sweet little hidden gem worth discovering inside Pike Place. The staff was so friendly when we walked in and politely informed us of a book signing that was happening. The store itself is so cute. I cannot even emphasize how adorable it is and immaculate in design. Each shelf contains a subgenre within the romance genre and there are plenty of books to go around. There are also recommendations from staff of books worth reading which is so helpful when selecting books. We ended up spending so much time in here because there was so much available for us to go through. They even had a surprise book shelf where they have pre-wrapped a book, provided a list of the tropes and spice level as well as some trinkets for readers to select and get out of their comfort zone. I really liked the concept and thought it was a really fun gift if you're trying to find something creative to give as a present to a book lover. They also do monthly book clubs and had 3 books for the month of September. If you're new to Seattle, this may be a great way to meet people in the area.

I was at a crossroads - my fierce desire to support independent bookstores clashed with my lack of interest in the romance genre. Hell with it, I was going to go in and find something to buy. First of all, the store is beautifully decorated. Not crowded, but lovely - what better for a romance shop than hearts and pink? I found a bumper sticker, grabbed it. I found an anti-book banning tee shirt, grabbed that. Found some stickers and bookmarks that aligned with my opinions, I got them too. I came across a lovely display of "Blind Date With a Book" selections, and picked one. I had a lovely conversation with the woman running the register. And don't you know, I really like the mystery book I chose. Maybe I do have interest in the genre after all.

The plethora of signs and ways they showcase the books was both stark and comfortable. The person at the desk nice and helpful. Check the website and find a topic of interest. Each time I called they told me they'd look up the books and give me an answer and then they didn't do it. I said I was happy to pay for shipping, and to support the local book shop. I was ready to drop $1k to support a local store. But these guys can't even be bothered to sell me books. SMH.

They had a great selection. I was in there to find a birthday present for a friend and easily found the perfect book and cute little bday card. They had a lot of the big hitters (fiction and non) but also a large local authors selection and unique picks. Also an adorable children's and YA section! Look in the back for those. Prices were pretty much on par with new books these days, probably between $15-35 for the majority of titles.

I was able to navigate around, but one section was more popular than the others so it was harder to browse the one section. Some decided to give up waiting for the aisle and browse elsewhere, while some decided to just grab closest to them as they looked around. My favorite bookstores of years past were Elliott Bay Book Store (moved to Capitol Hill) and treasure trove run by the late David Ishii. It was great to browse onsite on Independent Booksellers Day (4/25/26). Loved the overall well organized flow of this retail shop. There's also a bar located towards the back, open only Wednesday through Saturday 3-8pm. I imagine this is well received especially during First Thursday art/gallery walk. I did not interact with any of the staff, but was happy to freely browse their well curated selection.

I stopped by this shop while I waited for the pie shop next door to open, and I'm grateful for it. Staff were very friendly, left me to walk around as I looked for a book, and were helpful when I let them know the genre I typically like. They were well read, kind of like librarians. I found two great books, one of which is now one of my favorites and the other that I have yet to read, made it to Barack Obama's list for the year so it seems interesting. I have since visited again to pick up more books. Would recommend a visit!

Welcome Barnes & Noble back to the Downtown core…read more In today's world, which feels fast paced, there is a home for being slow, you know you miss it, tapping away against a glass screen, or the clickily-clack of that noisy Macbook keyboard... the sound of silence, of a page turning, the feel of the paper against your finger tips. The words on the page, invite you to engage, that isn't a swipe, you can't just like or subscribe a book, you just have to sit and enjoy. So do that, and to do that, you are at Barnes & Noble. Take a step inside, and the smell of paper, of a newly published book, changes you. You don't see the overcharged leds of a screen, but the warmness. this isn't the biggest bookstore out there, and it shouldn't, but it feels like the right balance between a national bookstore, and the local one, that curates books to the ones you want. Honestly, for it's size, I found exactly the random book that I was thinking of buy.. sure just one copy, but in that small moment, it felt like the people running this place, knew I was coming in. Value comes from the moment. Books aren't cheap, nor should you think they are, they are not a dime a dozen, they are stories that literally change you, regardless fiction or non-fiction. Enjoy the moment and realize that you are in a place that sells peace and comfort.

I recall now, when they were near the Market on First Avenue, buying two Abrams art books (Medieval Art, 19th century Art) when I was in graduate school back then. Ironically, after Elliot Bay, which had anchored Pioneer Square for years, moved to its less than ideal "digs" on Capitol Hill, Peter Miller moved just a block away in a hard-to-find alley just on the other side of Alaskan Way. (I walked up and down Alaskan Way for 10-15 minutes, as the street address is on that rather infamous thoroughfare). The bookstore is a trove of books and bibelots, objets d'art, curiosities---I'm not sure what the mot juste in English is for these "things." For those people who are averse to walking into Macy's or Crate and Barrel (University Village), this is a little more "real" and less of a "retail" experience. Where else would you stumble upon "Ruskin on Tintoretto"?
