After reading the recent one star reviews, it's clear these reviewers are referring to the White Horse in YELM, WA. This bar is in Pike Place Market and is not affiliated with that bar whatsoever. As a long time regular, I can assure you the owner of the bar is on site every night (very easy to get ahold of), they don't serve food (no kitchen), none of their drinks are served with ice (literally, they don't have a freezer or ice machine), and they most definitely do not support ICE. If you know this place, you know that those one star reviews are blatantly inaccurate. Visit this bar if you want to step into a portal to a romantic, dimly lit British pub, where everyone is safe and supported. F*ck that bar in Yelm, sounds like they can kick rocks. read more

If you enjoy cold drinks do not come here! The vibes are immaculate and when I saw the 17 dollar whisky sour with a mandatory 20% service charge I assumed it would be the best whisky sour I've ever had. Instead it was un-drinkable. This bar apparently has no ice, which seems insane?? But ok, that's probably something you should say upfront. A lukewarm lemon forward cocktail was not enjoyable whatsoever. If you want to drink straight whisky with the purpose of getting drunk fast I'm sure it's great. read more

Very cozy interior with ...interesting decor, so be aware of that if you or someone you're with is likely to be uncomfortable. Pours all the way to the top and if you don't have cash be prepared for a 20% charge for card (which is fine, imo). Not a ton of seating and dimly lit but on a cold October night we found it was nice. Bartender told us it was a classic English bar menu (not sure what that entails, but I knew what I was after) and my mead came from a huge room temp jug underneath the counter. Amazing dive bar ambiance in a cool historical building - the inside of this bar looks like an I spy game in the best way! The bartenders were super kind, very nice to talk to, and knew all of the regulars of the bar. Lovely to see a locals spot nestled into the middle of more touristy spots in Pike Place. I did, however, have the most abysmal Pimm's cup of my life at this bar. I ordered it because it was on the specials menu and thought it would be a safe option - I was wrong. Calling it a Pimm's cup feels like an offense to Pimm's liquor, to be honest. No cucumber/mint/herbs in the drink, and when I asked the bartender what they put in their Pimm's cups, he said they batched it with "any old liquor" and told me this batch was mixed with Sake....?!? Never in my life do I ever again want a batched Pimm's cup, let alone Pimm's and sake in the same drinking vessel. Not to mention they don't have ice at this bar, so it was served lukewarm. What a quirky memorable experience! We had a few drinks at the White Horse Tavern after arriving by train in the evening into Seattle. We were walking around Post Alley and decided to stop in. It's a small cozy space that absolutely has a local feel. The walls (and even ceiling) are covered with random items that make no sense but that somehow adds to the charm? It's pretty dark inside at night but again that adds to the quirky charm. The drink menu mostly consists of beer, whiskey and mead. I opted for the mead (called dandelion wine on the menu) and it was pretty tasty. The bartender was super friendly and welcoming. Definitely come here if you like quirky bars. White Horse is my fav bar. It's not my fav bar in Seattle or my fav bar when I travel. It's my fav bar period. Is it perfect? Not exactly. The alcohol offerings are really limited and they basically don't serve food. But for me, a British themed grunge bar fits the bill like no other. I can go in, order a spectacular glass of Meade and be perfectly thrilled enjoying it. It's a small place where you can let your eyes wander for hours checking out the wall and ceiling decor. They also have a fairly regular clientele but don't worry. If you're a stranger they're more than happy to engage. The owner Joe and the regulars will make you feel more than welcome. And isn't that what it's all about. I don't get to Seattle often but when I do I always end up at White Horse. You should too. read more

Such a fun place we found ! I ordered the Pims cup and oh goodness ! You only need one of these and you'll be set for the night . It was strong ! But very tasty. We also ordered "Bulls Blood" that was my absolute favorite , it was like a wine spritzer which was very refreshing and great to have to start off the night or end with a sweet kiss . Home of the strongest drink in Seattle and I believe it! Located in an unassuming alley, this place is a surprise on the inside. The walls and ceilings are covered in memorabilia and tchotchkes, but not in an overwhelming way. It's actually really inviting and warm. I tried the strongest drink which is a mix of 5 different alcohols, I believe. It was really something. And without ice, it was a lot of dizzy liquid, but it didn't taste too bad surprisingly, you could just tell it was strong. The exact recipe is a secret, but you can tell that it was made well. My second drink was a sangria and even that one was strong. Starting with a shot, then adding the sangria mix, it was more than I expected, but I was not mad about it. Know that every drink needs to be paid upfront, so dont be surprised when you order and the bartender just looks at you with his hand outstretched waiting for payment. Seating is scarce since the place is pretty small, so you might need to stand for a bit. But its definitely a great place to check out since it's open late, has great staff, and stiff drinks. I had a memory of a strong drink called a Pimm's cup and found the White Horse Tavern, again after 15 years. Dimly lit tavern had eclectic decorations with umbrellas on the ceiling left behind from out of towners (locals don't use umbrellas) and bras left by off work adult entertainment which use to house peep shows that were on 1st Ave. His prized boxing gloves, a barometer foreign currency, quaint upholstered furniture, a glory hole in the uni-sex bathroom and a mannequin on the ceiling in reference to Stanley Kubrick's film "Clockwork Orange". Upon ordering the Pimm's cup, we were asked if we were trained professionals, of course we agreed and 3 sips of the mystery concoction, we definitely wanted ice or a cold beer which didn't exist. The owner a previous boxer opened this pub from his winnings 35 years ago which included the Pimm's cup, a proprietary blend of bitters, wine, whiskey and brandy. This English pub is true in character with no ice, no beer and all beverages served at room temperature. This hidden gem maintains tradition and history of Seattle's Post Alley waterfront. read more

Very easy going place with great drinks... exactly what I need after working all day or night. Great for some solo time! Small menu but means that they got quality stuff. Small and very cozy, so don't come if you have a large party. 6 people in a party is about as big as you can go if you're looking to sit together. Although there is an outside area for extra seating. Staff is friendly. If you're looking for posh, go elsewhere. Would love to keep this place peaceful and laid back. There seems to be a love/hate debate between Yelp reviewers regarding White Horse Trading Company. I think it just comes down to personal preference in selecting a bar...er, excuse me, I mean tavern. Therefore, I fall in to the former crowd. If you're looking for a loud bar crammed with people, overpriced cocktails and pulsating music, just keep on walking. However, if you're looking for a quaint, dark, comfortable, chill spot to grab an English beer, relax and listen to jazz flowing from the speakers, you might want to wander down Post Alley and stop in for a bit. Just keep your eyes open because it does not stick out by any means. "Are you interested in beer or wine," is the first question you'll most likely have to answer to Joe the bartender. Selections of both are limited, but my decision was a large bottle of Samuel Smith Lager, which I took over to a nearby empty couch. After finishing my drink, I went back over to the small bar and struck up conversation with Joe, where I learned he has been in business in this location for over 20 years and typically has more local patrons rather than a revolving door of tourists, which I found surprising considering his close proximity to Pike Place Market. Even though I was basically a tourist myself, I can't argue with either his two decades of longevity or his ongoing success by sticking to the basics and keeping everything rather simple. Thick bottles of booze behind the bar. Outside, the rain and cold. Fog. Inside, we are warm. Other than the barkeep, there are three of us inside. We all know one another. Ten p.m. on a Tuesday night. All of us, we're drunk. Seems like Mr. Thomas might find this as good a place as any to tilt the elbow til the daisies get pushed. Conversation good. Beer cold. I am laughing, too loud probably. I see me as the too drunk guy, two degrees less charming than intended. Still, to me, the conversation is good. The beer is cold. Leather seated booths. Dark wood table. Rain on the window, pounding the window. We are warm. We are safe. We are drunk, warm in our drunk. We talk politics and religion until our words blur together. I remember words once written by Mr. Thomas. They reverberate in my head like so many drops of rain. "Our discreditable secret is that we don't know anything at all, and our horrid inner secret is that we don't care that we don't." Have I died and stepped into London Heaven!? This place was exactly what I needed on a day off. A perfect place to cuddle up with a good book and sip some amazing lager. On a hot day it's good to find shelter from the sun, and it's even better to know that the brews are from real cask ales! This place is legitimate in every sense of the word pub. I love the QUALITY of the options. Sure they don't have that big long list of domestics and microbrews, but what they do have is the man: Samuel Smith's brewskie options. I hear they offer Pimm's cups too, as well as a select red and white wine of the day. Time sort of stopped for me when I walked in. And slowed down.
