After passing it many times, curiosity led the Fat Man and his wife to Mama Devechio's Pizzeria in downtown Stanford, Kentucky, known for its Neapolitan-style, stone-fired pizzas made with local ingredients. We decided to try a couple of different pies to see what this place had to offer. We started with The Kentuscany. This pizza was made with smoked pork, goat cheese, sweet red onions, and bourbon sorghum reduction. The crust had a great chew, texture, and crunch. There is a great buttery, salty flavor that melts in your mouth. The pork was dry but had good taste and some smoky notes. The red onion adds crunch, while the goat cheese has an incredible salty creaminess that the sorghum reduction mellows out and cuts through with its sweetness. The next pizza we sampled was a Cheese pizza with pepperoni, beef, and banana peppers. Once again, the crust was phenomenal with a great crunch, buttery flavor, and chew. The cup pepperoni was mild in spice with good beef flavor. The beef had a good, mellow taste, but it was dry and overcooked. The banana peppers add a great acid from the vinegar, but the cheese didn't have the melty, ooey-gooey stretch that pizza should have, almost like the cheese was out of a bag. Mama's also offers a Savor Flight of their sauces or dips. We tried the Marinara, Tuscany Ranch, Calabrian Chili Ceaser, and Pesto. The ranch was very thick, fresh, and dill-forward, with a cooling balance and a hint of salt. This was some of the best homemade ranch that I have ever had. The chili was salty, with a lot of heat on the backend, and the Parmesan cheese added texture. The marinara was thick and chunky, with delicious tomato flavor. The pesto was vibrant green, chunky, fresh, and had great flavor and texture from the pine nuts. However, all of the sauces were served cold. The ranch and Calabrian Chili were fine that way, but the marinara and pesto should have been served warm. Mama's features a small menu of pizzas, salads, sandwiches, breadsticks, and desserts, plus a full bar with beer and wine. The Fat Man says that Mama Devechio's Pizzeria is Fat Man Approved with 1 chin. read more

Located on the Main Street of Stanford, KY. Same folks who own Bluebird. Stone hearth oven pizzas. Pizzas are served 10 inches, so essentially personal pan pizzas. Our group of three had fun ordering three pizzas and mixing and matching. I had the very unique "Kentuscany," made with smoked pork, goat cheese, sweet red onions, and house-made bourbon sorghum reduction. A little sweet for me (no surprise there), but I appreciated the flavors. Another member of our group had the La Cicciona, made with ground beef, Italian sausage, ham, and pepperoni. I felt this pie could have used a little more seasoning. Another peep had the pesto di pollo, made with pesto, roasted chicken, artichoke hearts, red onions, and pine nuts. I'm not a fan of these types of pizzas, but this one was quite flavorful. I really appreciated it. Savory and delicious. They also have fungi (mushroom) pizzas, pepperoni, veggie, plain cheese pizzas. You can also make your own pizzas with various toppings. Anti-pasta includes: meatballs, spicy kale cesar salad, spaghetti. They have wine and cocktails as well. I had the sidecar, made with brandy, lemon juice, and orange liqueur. I placed an online order for pick up and everything went well from the ordering process to the pick up. The Italian salad is delicious! I loved the dressing! I ordered two pizzas that were very good, the Meat Lovers and the Fresca. Very fresh veggies and the meats were plentiful . My husband and I both ate dinner from this order and had plenty of left overs for the next day. I will certainly visit again! read more

My wife and I finally got to eat this pizzeria in our home town of Stanford ky. They have a real brick oven ( huge and neat ) shipped in from Italy . We got the Mama D's Supreme and it did not disappoint. Maybe the best pizza ever. The waitress,Alyssa was very helpful and kind and a 10/10 . We will definitely be back and probably on a weekly basis. Everyone in the surrounding area of our little town needs to try Mama D's out. We just went here today and I really loved it! The atmosphere was tranquil and the design, from floor to ceiling, made me feel comfortable and like I was in an upscale restaurant. Mama DeVechio's is a cute pizzeria tucked into downtown Stanford. It's also the only place to eat in the downtown area that's open for dinner. Combine this with a popular BOGO pizza on a Tuesday, very little staffing, and (the coup d'état) running out of pizza dough, and you have a recipe for no dinner and very frustrated patrons. Our first date night since 2024, we visited Mama DeVechio's on my husband's recommendation. He had a poor experience here in 2023 but a great experience in 2024 and was anxious to return for pizza tonight. At arrival, we were told it would be a 10 minute wait. There was one person in front of us. We waited for 34 minutes, only to have the host come out and said she had two doughs left and wasn't sure they could feed him or us (people in the restaurant were still ordering). "Sorry about that." No offer of a free pizza on return or a free appetizer. It does not take much situational awareness to recognize that she could have advised us they were already running low when we arrived. We would have understood and headed to Danville for dinner. She could have come out at the 10 minute mark! She could have said something at the 20 minute mark when I asked for a menu. However, it's now fairly late in the evening; we will be eating in Danville now, closer to 9pm now if we're lucky. What we will NOT be doing is returning to Mama DeVechio's anytime soon. read more

My wife and I visited Mama Devechios for the first time on Valentine's Day 02/14/25. We had their Valentine's dinner special menu. The dinner consisted of four course meal for 75.00 for two. It started out with stuffed mushrooms. We each got three. We did like them. The second course was a sausage soup which was a little peppery but over all it was flavorful. The third course was a chicken dish in a wine sauce with potato's, carrots, celery, and onion. This course came out of the kitchen luke warm. The half of a chicken breast was overcooked and tough. By the time I finished my plate everything was cold. The sauce was good but a little bland. The fourth and final course was a ricotta cheese pie. The crust was slightly salty and the filling was bland. From the start of our dinner till the end took two hours to serve us. This took way too long. The service was mediocre at best. Maybe the pizza is better. For what I paid I could have gotten a better meal somewhere else. The ambiance was okay. They played some nice music. read more

First time in this week. What a great place! I should have taken some pics! Tried a little of, almost, everything. Meatball appetizer was outstanding, kale salad was delicious and I tried 3 different pizzas. All terrific! Btw I was with a group, hence the reason I could try multiple things. Decided to stop in here today after school to get a cheese pizza and I was very pleasantly surprised. I saw pictures of their pizza online and i thought that it looked delicious but i was a little surprised by their low prices, considering most pizza around is terrible and/or overpriced. Finally found a place that serves up a low carb option for pizza, offering a cauliflower crust, and it is nothing short of amazing. Service was quick and staff were very attentive. Beautiful restaurant, very clean, and located in one of our favorite little, quaint towns Stanford, KY. We are already planning our next trip!!! read more

Authentic stone pizza! Follow the brick floor to your right, to the ordering station. You will be greeted by happy faces. They have a buffet style counter. Where are you can pick all your fixings to put on your pizza. Make it how you like. The pizza is your standard homemade 10". Do not be discouraged by the size because you will get your fill. Everything is tasty. Family friendly. Prices are great. Italian music favs fills the air. Rustic/modern decor. Very impressed. I make it my favorite hotspot passing through or on purpose!
