God I love Mama Tried! This is SUCH a fun bar in downtown. First of all, the decor is sweet. It's retro meets dive-y and I am here for it. When it comes to the drinks, they're a-ok by me and the bartenders are always a good time. Even on a packed night (which is often), you can get your drink rather quickly and with friendly service too. You can opt not to dance, but with the playlist they've got going on it's hard not to! Horrible experience here. This place came highly recommended but unfortunately did not live up to the hype. When you walk in, it does have a speakeasy vibe but then become disappointed with the seat yourself and order yourself service. No host at all, just find a seat and that's it. We ordered drinks at the bar waiting for the bartenders to show some level of care and attentiveness to customers but none of that AT ALL! Ridiculous! We got one drink and it was light in flavor, so a good starter drink. We wanted to order more. First of all the menu is very small and a lot of the drinks are very basic, so clearly this is not a craft cocktail bar at all. They also don't have snacks or any sort of food. At least some nuts would be great. The place is also very loud. Not at all like it's been advertised which is advertised as a classy, elegant craft cocktail bar. It has a dive bar feel with decor that's nice but NON EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! Horrible. We were ordering a second drink with the bartender and I had some questions. They were out of frozen drinks even though they said they had it on the menu. She said they were out and I had another question about drinks. She didn't even offer recommendations, try to understand my palette or bother to be fully attentive. I was asking a question and then she rudely ignored me and just served another customer. She completely cut me off, ignored me and didn't even help me out. Wow! Unbelievable! That was so disrespectful! This is the WORST BAR I've ever been to ever. HORRIBLE, NON-EXISTENT CUSTOMER SERVICE, sub par drinks, just a horrible experience. But every time I've been here the bartenders are not that friendly. For some reason it seems we are bothering them every time we ask for a new drink. Drinks I've had *margarita on the rocks - really good flavor and tasty a little to much ice. *porn star- it's two drinks you have to mix your self so it becomes messy and sticky. But it's really tasty *red wine and white wine - don't order they are over prices even on happy house and it's cheep wine. The music is great, and is also fun on the weekends. This place is AWESOME. Great local vibe with both old and new music that the DJ was mixing together. The crowd is chill and the bartenders are just having a great time along with you. While they don't have the top shelf stuff like kettle or Tito's, there was nothing wrong with the well vodka they were pouring and they do have a heavy hand at times. Bouncer is a riot too. Came here with my friends for my 21st birthday and the bouncer neglected my friends real valid ID because she looked "too young" We asked the bouncer to scan our IDs and confirm they're real and valid and they refused. We asked to speak to the manager and they refused. We asked another employee to help us and he confirmed the IDs were real but continued to deny us. Loved the aesthetic and ambiance at this bar! It was a bit retro and as soon as we walked in, we loved the music. They were playing a lot of early 2000s music mixed in with the new. The drinks were also amazing. The pornstar martini is a must get, it comes with a martini and a glass of champagne which you can mix in or sip separately. I would like to say I had heard from several sources that this is where the locals come. And I can completely see why. The DJ is ahhhhmmmazing. The cocktails are too damn good to be true. Our faves were the John Daly (mine was vodka, his was whiskey. Both were delicious); the Raspberry Beret was so yummy and refreshing (not to mention, PRINCE); the Porn Star was surprisingly sumptuous (get it & you'll know what I mean). This is an awesome bar not far from the American Airlines Arena. It's a laidback environment with good music and friendly bartenders. The owner came over and greeted us and talked for a while. Parking is typical for this area. You gotta grab it where you can get it but the ambiance it worth it. Low lit and great for conversation with friends. It's been a long time since Downtown has had a steady neighborhood bar. It's open from 5pm-5am. This one is set to last for a good long time. read more

I don't know how to described Mama Tried. This little bar is nestled right in the middle of Downtown Miami. The music was a mix of all things Top 100, the crowd was interesting to say the least (but seemed to be enjoying themselves for the most part), the drinks were inexpensive and tasty. Something about the carpet outdated bright red carpet, the weird smell and the giant disco ball-like lighting turned me off. I went here on a Friday night so it was slammed. I'm sure it'd be a better experience on a weeknight or for their trivia. read more

One of my friends suggested this place after a concert at the American Airlines Arena this weekend. We decided to walk and the foot blisters I developed were well worth it. This place has a really fun yet laid back vibe and I loved the music. Lots of old school hip hop mixed in with todays hits. My one complaint is that there is a single bathroom for the ladies which did create for a little of a hostile environment in the bathroom line. Horrible. Who said this place was good? I was so excited. We came. Parking is scarce. There is some street parking but I'm guessing not too much on a busy night. When we got there the place was filled with a good amount of people. The outside is amazingly cute. I live the sign outside. The decor inside was also really nice. Looks like such a nice place. There were pool tables and people playing games. Looked fun. Unfortunately I left with a bad taste in my mouth. I went to ask for a menu and I was told there wasn't any. So I asked any special drinks? Then the bartender became sarcastic. I love going to new bars. I love finding a place and seeing what drinks they make special THERE. perhaps they don't have a drink menu but she could of easily said we make awesome Moscow mules. Then I would of been all for it. This is a nice dive bar. I didn't stay long as I was bar hopping, but if I lived in Miami, I would be a regular. Try the La Rubia.

I really like this bar. It has some work to do, but I have no doubt it will draw me back day after day for that 5-8pm happy hour. To start, from the street this place looks abandoned. Definitely not a tourist spot, which made it all the sweeter. Inside is dim, but the booths are lit overhead and at the bar I was still able to read my homework (you read that right, your girl brought homework). Also, purse hooks! Classy touch, Mama Tried. The decor is on point. No Regerts over there made me laugh, the pool table was open and ready for takers, and the walls were covered in cacti. Each booth had a fun sequin pillow that we used as a personal etch-a-sketch... Really close to a perfect place, and it wasn't overly crowded when we arrived around 6pm. Now for the drinks. Happy hour cocktails are $7 and wines are $5. Beer is somewhere along that price but we didn't order any. I had wanted a cocktail, but most of their menu was out of commission due to a lack of prosecco/bubbly in the building, which is a shame because their cocktail menu looks curated and like it could be a real treat to try them all. My friend ended up order a delicious non-bubbly cocktail that was fairly strong. I went for the house vinho verde - a rare find outside of Portugal, let alone in a small neighborhood bar in Miami! For that reason alone, I forgive them for not having all the ingredients for their specialty cocktails. Also, our bartender was so friendly and welcoming, it really put a bow on our happy hour experience. Also to note, no food but they do have snacks in the form of child-sized chip bags. At first I was a little skeptical about this spot because there wasn't that many people and the music wasn't all that great. But after a while the place started to pick up and the music got better. I like that they had a pool table and a little photo booth to take pictures with friends.
