I love everything about Riomaggiore and I was soooo excited to get a mixed cone from here. It's a cute little shop, looked very busy and I couldn't wait to try and see what all the hype was about. I came inside and I was a little bummed out because there were flies all over the inside of the food heaters where they put all the fried seafood. I mean, a little contamination never hurt anyone... So I did end up getting what I intended to get. I mean, it's not every day I am in Italy. I was trying to savor the moment. Fried seafood in a cone. There are a couple fried food stands in Riomaggiore, we tried a couple and found that this one was the best. The small little shop have very limited settings but the convenience of the way they are packaged, is easy to take away and eat. There are few choices of fried goodies and we got the combination of fries, calamari, octopus, and fish. The seasoning was flavorful and it is plenty to share if ordered the large for a little $ more. The focaccia pizza was delicious and it was also a nice decent amount. For 3 euro, you'll have the single greatest slice of focaccia you'll ever have. This is a tiny little restaurant with very friendly staff. We were welcomed warmly and selected the focaccia you'll see in my photo. The guy tossed it in the oven (NY style) to heat it up and a few moments later, it was melting in your mouth. There are tables outside if you want to stand and eat. Cheap, amazing food and friendly service? It gets no better than this. read more

We were walking through town just exploring our first evening. It was raining and this place was crowded so we gave it a try. Service was really fast and the food piping hot. Sauces are 0.50 each so ketchup and tartar sauce added 1.00. I had a large calamari, anchovies, fries and pesto focaccia for 23 Euro. Grabbed a bottle of Chianti from the grocer across the street for 4.80 (wine is so cheap in Italy!) and dinner for two was under 30.00! Got to the room and realized they forgot our fries... the service was fine. No credit cards though! The food wasn't too seasoned, but with the condiments and wine, it satisfied our hunger. read more

Tasty but unhealthy :( freshly fried seafood in a cone (small €5/ large €10). Having read about this place I had to try the seafood cone even though we were due to have dinner soon after so we shared a small cone as an appetiser. At €5 for freshly fried calamari, prawns, crab and fish the seafood cone is very good value and tastes good too. Mamma Mia can easily be found on the Main Street in Riomaggiore since there are only 2 streets in this village (not the street by the harbour). There is a similar outlet diagonally opposite that closes earlier so we did not get to try that place. read more

If you were looking for a take away pizza spot or seafood or fries or just a drink this is the place for you. For €18 you can get two full-size pizzas and two colas. The person working at the front was so kind and the wait was very short. the food was absolutely delicious and even if you wanted to stay outside on the benches you could. We completely devoured the pizzas as they were amazing they do have Coke products not Pepsi they also had Fanta and some other alcohol drinks overall amazing! read more

We came here on a rainy day in Riomaggiore and it was still crowded. The place is on the main drag, fun and jazzy, great for people watching. We ordered the mixed calamari and it was just the right amount for the three of us (mom, dad, 6-yr old son) to sample. The standard size costs 5 euros and includes a mix of calamari, octopus, sardines, etc. It was delicious but gotta eat while it's hot and crispy. It's a fun stop in to fuel up before the hike. Had amazing fried seafood cones here a couple of times on my trip! I heard tutti fritti was better but never got to check it out- this place was great though! The lady working was awesome each time and everything was soooo fast. My calamari and anchovies were well cooked. I loved the super cheap self serve wine and appreciate that they have seating outside. People eat quickly and head off so there's usually a space to sit down by the time your food is ready. Location is great, about halfway between water and top of town. read more

Mamma mia, this place is awful. I walked in to find a family screaming at the cashier that it had been forever for their fried calamari and they had to leave. I ordered chicken nuggets and French fries. The cone was €7 and looked absolutely nothing like their display. It came out and I took a bite and it was fish. Warning: Could be passed over as a tourist trap! Named Mamma Mia in the middle of Riomaggiore. You constantly see tourists walk around with the little cardboard boxes full of fries, shrimp, anchovies, and many other friend delicacies. However, it was tempting and actually turned out to be a nice quick bite. This is not where you want to go if you want a nice sit down meal in the Cinque Terre, but if you are looking for a bite to bring to the room or to the beach, this place comes recommended, despite the touristy name. read more

The other place that had similar fried seafood was closed so tried mamma Mia against my best instinct. My instinct was correct.....should've waited for the next day for the other joint. For 7 euros you get 5-6 pieces of calamari and the rest were some random vegetables that were soggy. The cone was only about 2/3 filled so make sure you check before leaving and ask for it to be filled to the top of the cone. Fried foods will always be an awesome street food in Italy. I got the mixed fried calamari, which includes a selection of fried calamari, anchovies, and fries. It was pretty good, and the staff was very accommodating and nice even though it was a tiny over-the-counter store. This place is kind of a mess. When we got in line, there was only one couple in front of us. A few minutes later the line behind us was out into the street. People were lining up in through both doors and there was no rationale as to how people were placing orders or receiving said order. There was one woman at the register and another making the food -- that's it. They were definitely understaffed. We ordered and got a paper tab with our order number on it after we paid. We stood in the doorway of the cramped little spot for about ten minutes when she called out our number. Unfortunately it was just my piece of pesto pizza and none of my husband's food. I waited another ten minutes before I gave up on him getting his order and ate my food. The pizza gets 1 star -- dough was below average quality, and same goes for the sparse pesto and cheese. My husband eventually got his fried calamari cone. We agreed that the calamari seemed fresh but the batter was just "okay" and it didn't particularly stand out. Chips served with it were decent, but again, nothing to write home about. We had heard that the other similar place across the street was better, but it was closed when we went to eat. read more
