I thoroughly enjoyed my Calamari Cone at Il Porticciolo in Manarola. Calamari is my family's go-to appetizer at restaurants in the States, and I can say that this was one of my all-time favorites. Il Porticciolo is a small, but very efficient deli style restaurant. You order and pick up the food at a counter. The restaurant is located in Manarola and gets very busy. They still manage to serve everyone, and are pleasant and friendly. Husband and I had the focaccia al formaggio sandwiches and shared what looked like a spinach quiche. It was all very good and the ingredients were fresh. The sandwiches have a generous serving of mortadella and fresh greens. They also warm the bread, which is a nice touch. There are a few tables inside the restaurant and also tables outside for al fresco dining. Very pleasant experience here. read more

After strolling through the streets of beautiful Manarolo we felt a bit hungry. Based on good reviews we chose this place on the main street in this village. Our dog was welcome as well. Ordered some acciughe (anchovies), an octopus salad and a Pizza. Two glasses of (golden) white wine each. Staff was friendly, prices for a tourist-magnet like this town very fair. The anchovies in oil were very good, nice quality, tender. The octopus salad with potatoes another great choice. Tender and fresh octopus. It's not that easy to cook it to the point, but they managed well here. Very good was also the Pizza, topped with Porchetta and Burrata. An unusual, but nice combination. Did months of research on reservations here and thought I had it figured out only to get turned away. Reservations open THE DAY BEFORE your requested time, not the day of like it says online. For example, if you want a lunch reservation for Thursday, you must book it on the app at 3:00pm on WEDNESDAY. If you want a dinner reservation on Thursday you must also book on the app at 3:00pm on WEDNESDAY!! It's honestly easier to get a reservation at Osteria Francescana (the best restaurant in the world) in Modena than it is at Nessun Dorma... They don't have their own app...and the food is better. read more

What a great restaurant! They have a small enclosure on the street like many restaurants in Italy but once you go inside, it transforms into a pretty high-end experience with a bit of a modern flare. The service was very good. My wife and I started with some stuffed vegetables which were excellent as well as a salad, also good. For our main course. I tried squid ink pasta for the first time with seafood, and it was phenomenal! My wife had a homemade pasta with the local specialty, pesto, which was delicious. We topped it off with a tiramisu, which was served in a small old-fashioned coffee pot, interesting twist, and an absolutely delicious dessert! Best tiramisu ever. Our day was completely improvised due to rain and worker strike. We came to find ourselves not knowing what to eat and went to Yelp. With decent reviews for this restaurant, we decided to try it and it was the best choice for our trip. We got seats inside the restaurant. When we first entered, I saw a glass enclosed below the bar counter with some yummy desserts and I was determined to get it. Our server was particularly cool and laid back. With six of us wanting to try different selections, we ordered 5 items to share. Each dish that came out was amazing. Price was very reasonable and the portion was good. Near the end of our meal, one of our friend felt he could have more pasta and decide to order another lobster pasta. We had no problem inhaling the second time around. All of us were satiated and I was still determine for dessert. The tiramisu was waaay too good. It's not the standard cake we eat in the states. This was the frothy creamy goodness that just a nice balance of sweet. Six of us sharing the three sampler cup was not enough so we ordered another one. We did see some people were late arrivals and to realize that they are there only for dessert. Would definitely recommend coming here for the lobster pasta and tiramisu. read more

What a great experience our family of four had here one early evening. Because it is high season, it's imperative to have a reservation! My husband and I ordered the tasting menu for two - WOAH! It's a lot of food, unlike we are used to in the states. The antipasti were our favorites-fresh fish and cheeses! Came here for dinner after an amazing hike through the cinque terre. Stopped at manarola to watch the sunset and came here for dinner on way back to monteresso. Service was amazing. I wanted both the seafood platter and pesto pasta but portions are huge for just 1 person. My server told me to get the seafood platter and on the side brought me a little cup of pesto to eat with bread. Super awesome! Seafood platter had a bit of everything: tuna tartar, octopus, mussels, anchovies filets and fried, potatoes, crepe. Pesto was amazing and made the focaccia tastier. My purple potato gnocchi with sardines and raisins was the strangest combo of sweet and fishy... a horrible one at that. Spaghetti didn't taste special at all, squid ink didn't either other than salty. I'm pretty sure everything in the Cinque Terre towns is touristy these days, simply because so damn many people want to see the place(s). But the locals really don't have anywhere to hide from us, do they? Either for that reason....or maybe for pride's sake (or a little of both?), this restaurant near the water serves up amazing seafood. I'm sure there are other good spots in town, but should I return to Manarola to fight the swarms for snapshots of the beauty its (part goat?) residents used to enjoy without us blocking the view....I think I'll head right back down for some more seafood risotto from this spot. Just yummy. Pro tip: if you're sitting outside on the edge of the patio, always be aware of how close to the edge your chair is creeping... ;) read more

Came with a small group wine tour so our lunch was included and I cannot comment on prices but the seafood was pretty top notch across the board. Tuna was excellent with nice pink color with a pepper type crust. Not a big shellfish person but others in the group spoke highly of almost everything. Only strange thing was that shrimp was raw which was a little strange to everyone. They also catered to one in our group that could not eat seafood and the thin pasta with pesto was excellent. Can you eat badly in Manarola? I doubt it. I did check with Yelp first, but all the restaurants and focaccerias we visited were exceptional. We had some antipasto to start and then the seafood spaghetti and lobster fettuccine for mains. Both mains were fantastic. Heavy on the seafood, light on the pasta which is the way it should be. All the seafood was incredibly flavourful and the fettuccine was freshly made and incredibly soft. The kind waiter even got my husband a negroni from the bar across the road as they didn't have all the ingredients in house - now that's service. You must book ahead. read more

I'd probably give this place 3 stars overall. We started with an appetizer, splitting the anchovies with lemon sauce, which was a little easy on the lemon for my preferences. Still good though. I had spaghetti with clams while my husband had spaghetti il porticciolo. There was quite a variety of seafood in his, including what looked like a huge crawfish, which our waitress said was a scampi. He wasn't very impressed overall with his dish, but he liked the razor clams and said the mussels back in the states were surprisingly more enjoyable. My dish was very similar, albeit with only clams, and the addition of tomatoes. It was good, but no where near the best I've had in Italy, even though it had fresh clams. One thing to note, they really cook their pasta al dente...I'd say actually less than al dente. So if you don't like extra chewy pasta, beware. We split the Nutella tiramisu for dessert, which was mostly moussey Nutella and barely anything "cakey." It was good but not what you might expect. The service was okay, our waitress was obviously not Italian and she spoke perfect English, as do people at most places in cinque terre. A lot of people are drawn here because rick steves supposedly recommends it, but I'd find somewhere else to eat next time since it didn't have a whole lot going for it. read more

Solid 3 stars. Not the best, but not the worst. The squid ink pasta was better than the seafood pasta. They basically are the same, but one is with squid ink. I was disappointed with how tiny some of the seafood pieces were. Each clam was the size of my pinky fingernail. The seafood pasta also tasted like ocean (a tad stinky), almost as if they cooked the noodles in salt water. The grilled octopus was great, but a little pricey. The service was superb though. For my primi, I got the seafood pasta and it will filled to the brim with clams, mussels, shrimp, crab leg, and something weird that I could not identify but it looked like a seabug. I ate the entire thing and was pleased wi the flavor. It did not need any salt or cheese added to it. My secondi was lil baby fried anchovies, served with lots of lemon and and a delicious pepper and white bean puree. I wish there was more puree, because I inhaled that as well. This restaurant is on the main walking street of Manarola. It gets very crowded in the evening so I'd make a reservation beforehand to make sure you get a seat (or a nice seat outside). We had the antipasto misto di mare, a seafood platter, which was recommended to us. It was a good sampler to begin our meal, though I found it a little salty. We both had the lobster with fettuccine, which literally includes half of a lobster; it was filling and well made. We also enjoyed the local Burasca wine, which was fantastic. read more

If it was simply based on service and atmosphere this would be 5 star review. Unfortunately, the food was not commensurate with the service.

All the seafood was cooked perfectly! Had the mussels to start, which were so wonderfully tender. The seafood pasta was great as well. The pasta itself wasn't anything special, but the seafood in it was likely cooked separately and plated since they were all cooked well despite the various types of seafood. We had the flounder catch of the day, which was also well cooked. For the catch of the day, we had a choice of four fishes, and my wife told me later that she actually wanted to try the other one, but was happy with how the flounder came out. For dessert, we had the sciachetra win pastries. The pastries and chocolate were nice but not anything special. Recommend just getting only the wine to save a few Euro. House red wine was a bit weird to me as it was slightly carbonated, but the white was delightful. read more
