A friend took me to lunch today. He recommended mama's. He had the cheeseburger and seasoned fries. He said it was good. I ordered the half order of beef Manhattan. It was just OK. The beef was not tender very chewy and the interior of the Manhattan was not hot. You could tell that the mashed potatoes were not homemade. But I did have the salad bar. Pictures are attached in this review. Wonderful salad bar. Lots of variety. Go back as many times as you like there's even a lot of protein on the salad bar. We also had an appetizer the breadsticks with pepperoni in them with the cheese dipping sauce, which was very good. The service was OK. We had to get the waitresses attention a couple times to get refills and she was slow getting back to us to take our order from the initial contact. read more

I love this place. They make you feel like family. And the food....pure comfort food. We sat on Pappa's side - that's the bar for 18 and older. The bar is dated, and filled with gregarious regulars eating fried catfish and sipping "fishbowls". Fishbowls are huge glasses of beer. A Sunking Weemac in a fishbowl is $6.50 and where else are you going to find one of those? They serve about 20 different beers that are listed on a board. On Friday night, most tables are full, but we find a booth and order our fishbowl. "Pappa" walks through occasionally checking on the thermostat and greeting patrons. The room has a fun energy. The menu is a mix of burgers, po boys, fried fish, amazing looking salads and more. I never get off the appetizer page...they had me at Fried Oysters "make it a dinner" with choice of sides. A big bowl of hand battered oysters comes out with cocktail sauce. The oysters are bursting with flavor. I choose the marinated cucumbers and cole slaw as sides. Both sides are handmade, slightly sweet and delicious. My husband has the Oyster Po Boy with fries. The bread is like a flatbread, delicious and crusty. The fried oysters are topped with lettuce. It's a winner of a sandwich. The fries are fresh cut and very good. We didn't stop there. Homemade deserts were listed on a board. There it was "Homemade Persimmon Pudding." Wow! Whip cream? Yes! The portion was generous, sharable. The pudding reminded me of a fine pumpkin pie, but with persimmons. Michele, our server, was fantastic. She was friendly and made recommendations. Food came out quickly. She checked on us regularly. 5 star service. On the other side on the restaurant is family friendly.... Momma's side. There are booths filled with families. There is also a covered patio outside with a few folks sipping fishbowls with their trusty canines at their feet. Discovered this gem when searching for good tenderloins. We were not disappointed. The tenderloin was perfectly crisp and delicious! Cole slaw for a side was diced and very flavorful! They also have a salad bar which was stocked and had a lot of variety. They cut up the lettuce and even added sliced pepperoni! We will definitely be back when in the area! read more

So we are here twice in the week we were staying in the area. First time - everything was great! Ribeye cooked to perfection - medium rare, good steamed greens, fresh salad, cheese curds were fried in clean grease. And staff was friendly! Second time- we ordered the same stuff. But we received sirloins instead of ribeyes, green beans were very very salty. The steaks were swapped out and apologized over. Overall. You've got a 50/50 chance of getting the correct steak according to my experience. I take that as it's a hit n miss restaurant. Poor quality in food which is a consistent theme in Bedford. Good salad bar which is only soup and salad.

For a hole in the wall, off the beaten place kind of restaurant this place was fantastic. While working our way down to French Lick from Greenwood, we got hungry while in the Bedford area and settled on checking this place out. Learning they had a salad bar was the tipping point and it didn't disappoint. Not only was the salad bar bountiful and clean, they also have a soup of the day. The soup was some of the best tomato bisque I've ever had!!! In addition to the soup and salad bar, we ordered the chicken tenders. Hands down the best chicken tenders I've ever had. The chicken was tender and juicy with the breading light and crispy. Our server was friendly, but did seem a little more focused to a table next to ours with all men sitting at it. I bet she thought 3 older ladies would be cheap with our tipping compared to the men. We still tipped her very well - but she could've been a little more attentive. I wasn't good about getting any photos, but this place is worth checking out it in the Bedford area. Oh, one last note; they have a bar side (on the right) and a restaurant side (on the left). I had the chicken teriyaki rice bowl. Nothing special but the broccoli was crispy and fresh which I enjoyed that it wasn't overcooked. Husband had the Supreme nachos which we had to ask for jalapenos. Really all nachos should have jalapenos. He said that some of the chips were tough but overall was tasty. Three visits in a row with subpar to downright terrible service. The food is fantastic and the only reason I come back but I think I will just get it to go next time. The last visit after delivering boxes our server vanished for 15+ minutes while we were waiting to pay and leave. I nearly walked out being tired of standing there with my kids. Meh... I have been eating from both mammas and pappa's for yearssss. Longggg before they merged. The new place is like they just cut mamma's menu off entirely. I honestly have no idea if it is like it used to be and you can order off menu or not, but the new menu isn't encouraging. All the old staples are gone and the new stuff doesn't sound the least bit appealing outside of steak. Where is the baked spaghetti? (So good!!!) where is the chicken chimichanga dinner???? (Amazing!!!) The same people still own the place right, Ernie and Wilma? Not liking the new menu at all - and calling to place an off menu order - just for the old stuff just sucks, it feels like punishing the staff to make an exception and I don't want to be "that person..." I would almost pay an arm and a leg just for their old recipes. Like seriously a lot of money for that baked spaghetti and chimi dinner... I get that to stay in business you have to make some really tough choices, but in this area. Nostalgia goes a long way, or it should. read more

We have business luncheons and family dinners here In all these years I think we had one problem and it was taken care of immediately by the owner himself. This restaurant has moved from another location to an old building but newly remodeled. They are invested in making a good experience. Fried chicken for me and the breast wasn't done .. had to wait another 15 min to get it. BUT owner offered me a cupcake haha (I don't like sweets) but it was the thought that counts. Offered me a to go Diet Pepsi .. that is always a plus! The salad bar looked clean and fresh. I had a baked potato as well but who can mess that up?!?
