After checking out Neuschwanstein Castle during the day we needed a place to stay the night before continuing on to Austria. After some online research we booked Mammhofer and the only regret we have is not being able to stay longer than a night due to our planned schedule.
The town is ABSOLUTELY beautiful during Christmas time with stunning woodwork displayed on windows. Oberammergau is the cutest town ever and quite sleepy in winter. Mammhofer is a few streets off the main drag, so it's perfectly situated in a quiet part of town.
Josef, the owner, is a third-generation family owner of the BnB and has done absolutely well with the place in all respects. The rooms are top notch (remodeled a couple of years ago), spacious, and the breakfast spread is better than many high end hotels I've stayed at around the world. Cheese and a number of other items are locally produced, which is a great way for Mammhofer to support the local economy. What's even better regarding breakfast is that Josef will even make you eggs and bacon if you're up for it.
I will definitely return to Oberammergau and I will most definitely stay at the Mammhofer again. read more
