My car started overheating and I was in a panic because I had an eight hour drive ahead of me. Luckily, I was less than 10 miles out of Mammoth Lakes and found this Chevron Station with mechanics OPEN on a SUNDAY! The young man didn't hesitate to investigate the problem and within an hour, and $78 later, I was on my way home worry free! Total scam artist!!! Run away!!! had my car towed there because the ignition switch was stuck. just needed a quick simple replacement. Karl said no problem he would take care of it the next day. I was very thankful but two days later when I came back he still had not even looked at it. He then verbally abused me and told me to get my car the f... out of there if I wanted. I am from out of town and knew of no where to go. Problem never got fixed. he lied about parts being impossible to get quick enough. I had part overnighted myself!!! lies lies lies. To make it all worse I had to pay ninety bucks for nothing and then on way home (after fixing problem myself) my water pump mysteriously went out. had it towed to bishop where they told me someone had messed with the hoses around the pump. hmm, no big mystery there... AVOID AVOID AVOID. I honestly don't know why Chevron has not yanked his license. He qas so rude and disrespectful as a human being that I have been boycotting all chevrons since then and will continue to do so until he loses his license! read more

Chevron saved the day, in the middle of a blizzard that dumped +12 inches of snow we had to drive back down the mountain in the snow after our chain link chains broke. We called the Napa Auto parts store about buying chains and they recommended the Chevron Service Station because they could install them. The Radial chains were reasonable priced and installed for $135 total including tax. It took about 15 minutes for them to put the chains on. They were also easy to take off and put back on. read more

Carl, cussed me out for like 20 min. His breath stunk really bad. He was saying that my service in the Marines didn't mean shit. He said he's been serving his country since he was 14 and he didn't have to kill anybody to do it. I think he just doesn't want to own up to the fact that he did a piss poor job. He tried to return my vehicle with out transmission fluid and the engine light on. $3400 for a rebuild and he said he's not liable to check. I stopped in before heading back to Camarillo after riding in the Mammoth Gran Fondo. My check coolant light came on and Michael the mechanic was more than willing to help me. He not only topped off my coolant but also checked my oil and windshield wiper fluid (which he also topped off). I highly recommend this station for their attention and friendly staff!! read more

Had a really good experience at this service station. We were up here during a freak Spring snowstorm that brought over 12" to Mammoth. I had gone to the market and within an hour was unable to make it back up to our condo. I was directed here to purchase chains. They didn't have my size chains here but the gentleman helping me - Caesar - ran next door to another place to get them. He put them on very quickly. I was very nervous since I have no experience driving in the snow and since the main road to the condo was closed I would have to take the "back way". The owner - Carl - saw that I was nervous about driving and offered to drive me in my car up to the condo with Caesar following. This was truly amazing customer service and was so appreciated. Did I pay a premium for my chains and installation? Possibly - but it was all worth it to have customer service like this - really above and beyond...thanks guys! read more

We safely arrived in Mammoth for our annual Labor Day camping trip. On Saturday morning, I saw our truck was leaking coolant. I drove to the ONLY open repair facility in Mammoth. Karl looked at the truck and determined I needed a new water pump. After spending close to an hour on the phone, Karl found a new pump in Carson City, NV. Karl arranged to have the pump delivered by Saturday afternoon. By Monday at noon, we were back on the road and headed home. Karl and his employees were amazing and I can't thank them enough. This could have been a disaster, but Karl was reassuring and made sure we were taken care of. We had a wonderful weekend and made it home safely and on time thanks to Mammoth Chevron (Karl and all of his employees). Although they were the ONLY repair facility that was open, Karl's prices were fair and they did excellent work! Thank you!!!! read more

I am not sure I have ever written a review for a service station. I can't thank Carl enough for going above and beyond to provide excellent service - on a Sunday no less. Having driven down from Tahoe, I rolled into Carl's station to have him look into my ongoing battery issues. Rather than simply writing up a work order (which happens in most places) he took the time to really trouble shoot the issue saving me a lot of money and from missing a day of work down in Los Angeles. Carl provided the VIP service to me as a stranger ironically we found out later that we share some dear friends. I'm certain he's the guy that goes above and beyond for everyone. They verbally quoted me a price for an alternator, I took my car in, they didn't give me a written estimate (I should've asked for one), then when I picked the car up, they charged $100 more than the verbal quote. They claimed the person who quoted it, was on vacation and out of the country and couldn't contact him. read more

Just had some great help from Cesar at this station. On New Years, with the mechanics on duty backed way up, Cesar took the time to help me get the right pressure in my tires. With a long trip ahead back to Santa Rosa, this really took a load off my mind. He explained that pressure lights often come on in this high altitude with cold weather. read more

6/13/17 After an 8 day stay in Mammoth, I filled up my tank with premium unleaded gas on my way out of town. After 20 miles, my car started to lose power and halted. Spent an unexpected overnight and was towed to dealer in Reno next day. Contaminated gas! Do not risk buying gas here! read more

It's interesting that Mammoth Chevron got such mixed reviews. Here is one more data point. We had a very good experience with Karl Teller on a recent trip to Mammoth Lakes area. Our Prius developed a chirping noise at Mammoth Lakes on a Sunday. Not having experienced this issue before, we wanted to have it checked before driving home across highway 120. Apparently Mammoth Chevron was the only service station open on Sunday. Karl rode in my car to hear the noise, and assured me that Prius cars have the tendency to develop such noise at high elevation because of their regenerative braking system and that it's nothing to be worried about. He didn't charge me anything for the diagnosis. read more

The best auto shop in mammoth. Karl and his staff can fix almost anything! We brought karl our 1997 F350 diesel 4x4 with a major oil leak, in a few days he had the part and we were on the go. All the work was done at a great price. He also fixed a leak in our front tire, we need a screw removed and a plug, he did this in the pouring rain. When we asked how much there was no charge. What a great shop and great staff! We are glad we made new friends and you will be too. read more

So our Jeep managed to make the road trip from New Mexico to L.A., and then all the way up to Yosemite for a few days of backpacking the trails. Unfortunately, the day we get back in the vehicle to start our trip home, the engine light starts flashing a few miles into the drive and we just barely limp into the town's visitor center. We had to get it towed to this place, and I gotta say that they really helped us out. I'm glad we were able to get service almost immediately because we explained our time constraints, and the price wasn't really that bad either. The only reason they're getting 3 stars is because they didn't ENTIRELY fix the problem. We got back on the road and it did indeed get us home just fine, but about 100 miles down the road after getting the repair, the light came back on (not flashing this time) and wouldn't go away. Plus, whenever we had to slow down, the jeep idled really heavy like it was having a hard time. We tried calling them, but were told by the convenience store employee that everyone had gone home for the day and we'd have to call back the next day. We risked the trip and made it home, but I'm looking at another mechanic bill for figuring out what else went wrong during the repair. read more

My husband and I recently had an issue with our starter, we were camping at Lake Trumbull and would have been stranded with a ruined vacation had it not been for Karl Teller at Mammoth Chevron. I called every single auto mechanic in Mammoth, all of which had a 2 day backlog and were unwilling to take a look at our Expedition, EXCEPT Karl. We stayed in the Motel 6 after arriving late one afternoon from Trumbull and Karl agreed to look at our car first thing the following morning at 8am. His expert eye and experience enabled him to quickly deduce that we had a wire and bolt loose that were causing the starter issues. Left unattended, the starter would have been completely disabled which would have required a HUGE towing expense. Instead, Karl quickly fixed the issue, charged a nominal fee, wished us well, and we returned to our camping vacation with huge smiles. He was the ONLY mechanic in Mammoth willing to spend 10 minutes to assess our issue and I think the ONLY capable mechanic in Mammoth for that matter. I had an out of town guest whose check engine light came on. She wanted to see what it was before driving back down south. At the time, my CEL was on too, so we took both of our cars their together to have them use the CEL code tool. For literally 5 minutes work total for both cars, they charged us $100. When I complained, they said, sorry, that's our minimum charge ($50 each). Just for their cocky attitude, I will never go back there. He could've been nice and charged $50 total for both cars and I would've been ok with that... but a $100 for five minutes time, ridiculous and they wonder why locals won't bring their cars to them...sheesh read more

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Karl and the staff at mammoth chevron. I was traveling through, had some car issues, and came by on a Saturday and got a 1 pm appointment. As i was waiting, Karl gave my car a diagnostic, drove it around the block, and was able to figure out what the problem was, do an adjustment, and only charged me $20! (I was back on my way by 10 am!!). He was very knowledgeable and patient as he explained what was wrong ( altitude was affecting the idle of my car, causing it to stall out), and even showed me how to make the adjustment back when i returned to a lower elevation! Had a tire low on air. Air machine @ Shell station near June Lake cost 25 cents but pressure was not sufficient to fully re-inflate the tire. Mammoth Chevron air machine was FREE and had adequate pressure. Pumped my tire up but the next day it was down again. Told the Chevron manager of my problem and asked him if he could schedule my tire for a repair. His reply: "we can repair it right now." He wasn't kidding....we were out the door in less than 20 minutes with the 1 inch screw causing the leak now a souvenir of our Mammoth vacation. THANKS much Mammoth Chevron! read more

Had a ripped tire and went to Goodyear up the street from here first. Goodyear worker was lazy, rude, and he admitted after I waited 10-15 minutes, that they didn't even carry the tire I needed (when I have a very popular SUV!). Told me to go to Bishop! Drove 1 block and saw that they had tires! They put a one on, and it was very reasonable. Don't bother with Goodyear, I would come here first. read more

i will never use this station or service center ever again !!!! i was quoted a price for a battery replacement and install and after having it installed the price went from 141 plus tax to 182. ok no problem asked why i was quoted a different price and the owner karl teller proceeded to verbally insult me..saying i had a whole lot of ass and when my credit card didnt work he said take the battery out this lady doesnt have any money... from the second i drove in the attitude of the employees was rude. on top of that the owner was rude, disrespectful and i will tell everyone i know never to use his station. never ever ever will i use them and i am disputing the charge and karl teller can fight me for the extra 30 dollars. and if he has children i hope they grow up with some respect for the people around them but seriously i doubt it. read more

Crap. I should've read all these yelps before I dropped off there. I had took my car there for 2 specific problems. One was resolved kinda. They then tried to figure what was wrong with the other issue. I told to moron, er a mechanic(x games boy)what to look for. He said that's not the problem. I disagreed and let him know. 3! Wks later they give my car back and said it was fixed.....It didn't start. At a Cost of almost 2 grand. They take it back for another week. Give it back. Says it's fixed...... won't start. They then ignored me for another 3 or 4 days. I took it to the Goodyear. 2 days later, it's fixed, it was EXACTLY what I kept telling the moron excuse of a mechanic( X games boy) was wrong. Feeling like I was ripped off in a big way I contacted the California. Bureau of Automotive Repair. It took a couple of months but I did get a response and got a call from Chevron to settle. They did eventually. It was a partial repayment . Hey Carl I know you ' get a kick' from YELP..good, Now I'm taking you to small claims for the Goodyear bill of 200.00.Mammoth Chevron needs to shut down the garage and just do tires and oil changes, and pray your car will run when you get it back. read more

My radiator went out and I had to be towed in. Cheveron got a good review from the tow truck so I went with them. Needed a new radiator so it took a while but it was fixed by Tueday 4:30 after leaving it on Friday PM. Rates were ok and I was on my way....but two hours into the return, on HWy 395 (middle of the desert) the car overheated again. After opening the hood, I saw that the top radiator hose clamp was 10 inches from the end of the hose....serving no purpose. Called a tow truck again but the highway patrol stopped and had some tools. We coaxed the clamp back to where it should have been and I made it 15 miles to a station with a station. I bought a new clamp and put it on my self, as I was afraid of anyone else doing work at this time. We could have been severely hurt by this incident, and all it required was just doing the job right. A phone call to the owner said if you have no receipts, I can't help you...might not have helped even with receipts. DON'T DO BUSINESS AT THIS STATION. read more

Got into town Wednesday and had a issue with my Toyota fj. Pulled into the shop and not one car on the lift and there mechanics were in the office doing nothing but filling out paperwork at 9 am ? Asked them when they could take a look at it and some idiot said not till Saturday. I told him we were from out of town and were leaving Sunday and he pointed to the fuel pump construction and said if Saturday is not good enough for you take it somewhere else! So i did ! Took it across the street to alpine auto repair! Found out that the guy I talked to was the brother in law of mike at alpine auto repair and was fired from alpine for shitty customer service. Drove by the station several times and most of the time no cars on the lifts and mechanics outside BSing with each other. They also like to start there work late and go home early! If you are that busy maybe a solid 8 hour day of work would allow you to take on more business! The repairs that were done on my truck I could have done in about 2 hours in my in my garage at home ! You are lucky you are supported by by the gas station because if you were on your own you would be out of business! Mammoth is a resort town! Most of the money that this city generates is from people visiting from out of town. Fixing flat tires for good reviews is not going to help shitty customer service. I would have paid double the price it would cost normally in a large city to have it fixed! Go to alpine auto repair for great customer and killer prices! Stay away from this place! Go anywhere but here or have your car towed to Bishop before letting these folks touch your car! Needed front brake pads while on vacation August 17, 2013. Talked with the college age clerk who professionally scheduled me for an appointment about 9:30 AM with caution that the mechanics would have to confirm once they arrived later in the AM. Received a call from her shortly after 8 AM that the mechanics were unsure "if a 2nd mechanic would show for work at noon or not ?". Someone would call me, she tried to make nice and cover for the uncooperative mechanics but it was clear they were giving her grief for showing them up by demonstrating some customer service. Status required two additional calls initiated by me and finally I asked to talk to Karl teller the owner. I got Cesar the manager on the line who in effect blamed the morning clerk. Cesar could get to my car in three days after holding me up for more than 7 hours. I asked again for him to have Karl Teller the owner call me which he committed that he would do. I have not heard from karl Teller and that speaks all you need to know about this repair shop and the owner. Cesar must be Karl's son-in-law or relative to keep a job as he is a total bust. Poorly run shop, bad communication skills, and doesn't even know what the repair schedule is or if the help is going to show (very poor management). College age clerk is the only one with any customer skills. Karl should promote her but likely will give her grief for taking initiative. Please take my advice and go to Goodyear also called the Norco Service Center. read more

I've actually had the same issue with this Chevron Station. My episode started May 9th, Saturday morning approximately 9:30 am or so. Was in town getting cleaning supplies near empty in my F-250 and needed diesel. Pump ran extremely slow on the fill up and didn't question a thing until I departed. Got back to my home in June Lake and readied for my trip back to San Diego very early Sunday morning May 10th. Sure enough without warning, my truck just quit running right in the middle of 395 on the South end of Independence, 7:30 in the morning. Had to be towed back to Bishop Ford that morning, try to find a darn rental, good luck there on Sunday, and no service department open in Bishop. Long story more to come but do not buy diesel at Mammoth Chevron. Bishop Ford had my truck for many weeks getting new parts, etc. but they were absolutely fantastic people to deal with.
