Karl and the team at Chevron really helped me out this week when I realized rather suddenly that my old all-terrain San Diego tires were no longer up to par for the Mammoth weather! He made a reasonable recommendation, got the tires ordered, and had my Subaru feeling safe on the roads just like it used to within a matter of days. The most impressive thing was that when I was in a pinch on the day that the tires came in (Zoom calls for my daughter and work calls for me), he kindly offered to come up to the condo and get the vehicle and take it back down to the shop -- no extra charge. Went in to get an alignment was told to come back five days later. I brought my car in 5 days later and proceeded to watch it sit in the shop parking lot for over a week! 10 days and $645 later I was on my way and my car still has steering issues and leans to the left. This is on a 30 year old Toyota truck not some fancy new car like the Audi I saw in there. They recommend I replace another part on the steering rack. Which they didn't have in stock. So that way they can go in and redo all the work they just did and charge me more labor! I was in a pinch and went here and good lord will I never go back! read more

Don't Count on the Mammoth Chevron! Made a reservation 8 am... 5 days in advance to get my car's yearly service completed. Call the station at 11 am they had not started working on the car yet. Never received any calls from Mammoth Chevron to let us know what was going on. We then called at 3:30 and they told us they had not started any work on the car. No phone calls from the Chevron station to let us know that they would not be able to work on the car today. Again made the reservation 5 days ahead! A call to let us know the situation would have been the least they could do for customer service. Will never go back. read more

If you need gas, not a bad location. But if you need more than a flat fix, go down to Bishop to get real mechanics. They were to fix a flatbed trailer's wiring. They finally admitted they couldn't fix it, but still charged $580! For fixing NOTHING! They were claiming that they had spent time on the job so needed payment! For NOTHING! I've lived in Mammoth for a few years now. I've taken my lifted 4x4 Toyota in (which is my vehicular pride and joy) and my wife's Rav4. They've done such a great job, squeezed us in even when they were swamped, and really do try to bend over backwards to help people out. We were in Mammoth for the New Years holidays. We had chains when we got there. With the tremendous amount of snow we broke one of our chains. I called Mammoth Chevron and spoke with Clay. He looked up the information and let me know that they had the chains I needed and told me that they could put the chains on for me or had a video I could watch on how to put the chains on. It was very busy when I got to the station. I was taken care of quickly and the chains were put on. Something happened with my brakes the morning we were supposed to drive back to SF after camping nearby. These guys are great - Ryan really saved our trip! We drove up from LA and had some car trouble in Mammoth - we were leaking oil and lost enough that the engine started making terrible sounds and then stalled. We managed to get our car to the station on Saturday around noon, and even though they were booked up with reservations for the day, Ryan said they'd squeeze us in for a look since we were planning on driving back on Sunday. He got us fixed up by the afternoon and told us to come back Sunday morning so they could double check everything was good before our drive back. Excellent customer service and I so appreciate how they really try to accommodate us out-of-town folks who are just trying to get back home. There are not many options in the Mammoth area on the weekend, but should we ever need help again while in the area, this place will be my first stop! read more

Karl runs this auto shop like a real boss (Seriously, have you seen this guys mustache?) We started with a flat tire, but boy oh boy...when the desert hit us with 105 degree heat, we didn't truly appreciate how much we may need Karl and his auto team (shoutout Rocky and Ryan!) They took us in on a Friday evening when no one else would, and had Dolores (2002 Town and Country Minivan) ready to go, with a smile on their faces, by midday Saturday. They ran the diagnostic as soon as we arrived Friday and provided helpful suggestions and a creative temporary solution to ensure we got home safely (and reminded us that the public transportation was available in the meantime). Our weekend would not have been the dream it was without Karl and the Chevron team. He couldn't take the homemade Rice Krispie (dang keto) we wanted to gift him as a token of extra thanks, so this review will have to suffice instead! This review is grossly overdue, but wanted to share our experience: AVOID Karl Teller and this service station at all costs. Issue: We drove to Mammoth and parked our SUV at Canyon Lodge. After snowboarding for the day, our tire was mysteriously gouged with a knife, on the interior sidewall. Someone literally had to crawl under the car and damage it. Very odd. We drove the car down Main, to the first open station we saw: Mammoth Chevron. With 350 miles to drive home, and a rare tire needed, and only a donut, we were left with few options. Con-Artists: Karl was welcoming and friendly - or so we thought. He said he just happened to have an extra set of tires and rims for our rare car! What were the odds? The "Deal": Karl said he'd loan his tires and rims to us for the week, and hold our rims as collateral. We would return the following weekend for the new tires (which had to be shipped in). Since he was doing us such a "favor," we thought it'd be the right thing to buy (4) new tires from him, instead of just the (1) we'd need just to get home to the OC. When he heard this news, he said he'd give us a great deal on the tires. The tires were competitively priced, so we agreed to have him buy all (4). Finally, we wanted to square-up on the cost for the loaner tires and the labor costs for putting on and taking off the donut (before we knew about the loaner rims). Karl INSISTED that there would be NO cost for the donut, and that we need not worry, that he'd "take care of us" for the cost of the loaners, till we returned the following weekend. The "Switch": When we returned, Karl was not there - but a bill was waiting for us. The tires were $1200.00, almost $200.00 more than quoted. Additionally, we were charged $400.00 for the "loaner tires and rims" (which he said he "take care of us for, since we gave him our business"). Finally, he charged us $75.00 for donut labor - which he said would be no charge. The "Clerk": When checking out, we questioned the price - as it was not what Karl and I had agreed upon. The clerk yelled, "What do YOU expect, you picked the most expensive tires!!!??" I said: "I actually picked the cheapest option that Karl provided???" Clerk said: "What do you expect? It's a PORSCHE!" We asked to speak with Karl, but he did not answer our call. We waited a few minutes, tried again, but still no answer. Lesson Learned: With few options, we paid the bill; $700.00 more than we had agreed upon. We felt like the biggest fools for trusting such a small-town swindler, and vowed to never visit the service station again. We also wanted to share our experience in hopes that others can learn from the same and avoid Karl Teller and Mammoth Chevron at all costs. Update 2/14/17 2 years later and we're still getting screwed by Karl Teller and friends. The OVERPRICED, unwarrantied tires they sold us were not rated for the weight of the vehicle. The wearing was excessive and uneven with cracking in the sidewalls. Very dangerous driving conditions. STAY AWAY and do not patronize this business under any circumstances. read more

I can't say enough good things about this excellent repair shop! Our last night in mammoth my engine light came on and I was so upset. Of course it happened on a Saturday night in a small town. I gave up any hope of a repair shop being open on a Sunday! Unfortunately we had an appointment that couldn't be missed and we needed to be home by Sunday night. I googled all the repair shops in the town and as I expected none were open on a Sunday. With the exception of this repair facility. I have had horrible experiences with dishonest repair shops, so I didn't have much hope that this one would be any different, but I had to give them a try. I am so glad I did! I was there right when they opened and was greeted by Ryan. I told him I needed to know what was needed to be done right away since we were under a time crunch. He got back to me within an hour!!! And said he would send someone all the way to bishop to get the part and would have the repair done early that afternoon so we could be on our way!! I was ecstatic! He definitely went above and beyond anything I expected. And the repair cost was very reasonable. If you need a great, honest and reliable mechanic definitely use Ryan at this Chevron!!! read more

Sell overpriced defective parts Was stuck in Mammoth without chains, they're the only place with the chains I needed and charged $170, twice usual. All this made sense as the next available is over 30 miles away. What is wrong is the chains just kept coming off so they weren't even usable. I asked for a refund the next day. The response was "no, you bought it you own it" I responded that it was defective and not even usable. The response was "who installed it". I said I asked them to install it but they refused to unless the car was there and not 2 mins walk away so I had no choice. I understand some people might take advantage of return policies so I offered to take a reduced refund and was refused. read more

Walked in and the stoner at gas station desk acted like he was doing me a favor by fixing my car...... last time I checked it is the customer who is paying is actually doing the favor. I decided to cancel the repair and I drove down to Bishop...... This is the second time I have had this experience. Last winter I was up they tried to charge me $245 for a $35 pair of snow chains... what a joke.. Hopefully this business will learn the value of running a fair trustworthy business instead of being a crook. Considering I am in mammoth every other weekend I am sure the need for their service will arise again... I will absolutely not be returning to this establishment. read more

Seriously overpriced, took my car for an alignment 140$ and I thought it convenient to ask for an oil change as well since I was there already. 149$ just in 'parts' my car takes about 7-8 quarts, the price next door at Napa is 6.08 since they're a business they probably got it at a better prices they charges me around 80$ just in oil. I brought my 2004 Toyota in yesterday, a Tuesday, with a bunch of needs. Mammoth Chevron had so many work orders that I begged them to have it ready by Friday. They said no problem. I was skeptical. They were SO busy. Today, Wednesday, they called and said it was ready (in less than 24 hours) with everything I had asked them to do. They had delays from other customers so they wasted NO time in getting my truck finished. PS. My '79 VW always has issues every summer. Last summer they worked on it and it runs like a champ, an old champ but still... To me, their service, and quality of results make them a class act in my book. Thank you Mammoth Chevron!! They jacked me for some unnecessary work and used cheesy, after market parts instead of catching any of the shoddy work done at Pro 1.
