We each had a half-slice of pie for dessert. My husband had chocolate icebox and I had the banana caramel. He said his was delicious. Mine was unforgettable - I'm still thinking about it - and I'm not even a dessert person. It was sublime. The servers were friendly and very helpful, the restaurant very clean and very cute, with bits of memorabilia on the walls; lots to look at. I've lived in Natchez for close to a year now and have not gone to eat here until today. I can honestly say it was one of the best lunches i have ever had. I had Rosemary Chicken. It was so absolutely delicious and the side salad was great too. It had a very tangy, spicy dressing. Chicken was tender and delicious. I had the banana caramel pie for dessert just because the server brought it to the table just for us to look at and i couldnt pass it up so i ordered a piece of that too. I dont think you can go wrong by ordering anything in this cute little place. Their blueberry lemonade is to die for so order that too. Also, everyone was so friendly and seemed happy to be working there. They have a little gift shop too with cute little knick knacks and stuff. Fun to finally stop at this iconic roadside attraction. Fast and friendly service off of a quaint, interesting menu. Pretty tight quarters inside the aged underskirt. Cookbooks, t-shirts and magnets are a little pricey. We got an $8 magnet. The food was surprisingly dull. The chicken salad is canned chicken with 1/3 of a pineapple on the side and a cherry on top. My broccoli cornbread recipe is better. The soup was canned. We got pie. Not good. Bad crust. Too pricey for low quality southern cuisine. It's not that hard to serve something fabulous. What a throw back to the 60's. Remember these unique type of places when I was a kid. We had Ruben / chicken pot pie (reminded me of my mom's baked chicken pot pie), chicken salad sandwich - which is mostly chicken / vegetable soup. We finished off with a piece of chocolate cream pie (yes, they have the meringue standing tall) that had to be the most chocolaty I believe we ever had. First off this place is definitely a tourist trap. Alright now that, that's out of the way the food is actually pretty good. The Chicken Rosemary is really good, however I wish it came with more mushrooms. The salad on the side was fresh, but I was not a fan of the dressing it was way to thick for me. My favorite special is the red beans and rice. Bring cash because no credit cards accepted. Also, call ahead if you are planning a trip because they do take a couple of weeks if vacation per year. We arrived Saturday afternoon at 1:45 p.m., went inside and were promptly told that they were closed. The hours of operation state that they are open until 2:00. Much to our dismay, another group of people who appeared to be locals, were ushered right in! The woman at the door just looked at us. How rude. It's a mystery to me how this place stays in business. This place is amazing! Torie was our waitress and she happens to be one of the owners. My husband had the beef brisket special. He said it was some of the best brisket he had ever had. I was not impressed and being nice by giving 3 stars! Saw the Chicken Pot Pie online and decided to try the restaurant because the photo looked so good. Beware they only accept cash but was very accommodating to those that were not prepared. Thank goodness we were okay with that issue. Also, the Yelp directions took us to a completely different location so we called to get clarification. Found out that the directions provided by Yelp are inaccurate but when we asked about the staff getting them corrected we were told that it would cost $150 to get them changed and they did not want to spend the money fixing that item. (Okay so don't help your customers) We went on a Tuesday for lunch and once there saw the menu that said daily specials which had the chicken pot pie only on Fridays. Bummed out we glanced over the other items and finally decided on the chicken salad sandwich which came with a cup of vegetable beef soup and a small scoop of potato salad. The best part of the sandwich was the bread which I believe is homemade. The chicken salad was bland but the potato salad was pretty good. The vegetable beef soup should not have "beef" in the title because the minute piece of beef we had was the size of half a dime and there was only one in the whole cup. This is a favorite place we stop coming from Baton Rouge to Monroe. We planned to meet a friend halfway for lunch here. I called everyday for a week to be sure they would be open. Yelp indicated that they were open but all calls to Mammy's went to the fax machine. We took a chance and drove 100 miles only to find a sign in the door that they were closed for a week's vacation. I am not a food snob -- well, maybe a snob about Southern food -- but Mammy's was a big disappointment. The reviews don't match the food at all. Lunch for two people with tip was $35!! I think that's a lot of money for very small portions. When we asked for ice water to drink we were brought two bottles of water and two glasses of ice. We were told that we can't have just tap water. ( The water was $2 per bottle.) We both ordered sandwiches which though on very good white bread, were very skimpy on the meat. The sandwiches (as mentioned by other reviewers) came with a cup of very mediocre, non-homemade vegetable soup, and a teeny portion of potato salad. My daughter got the potato salad with her sandwich, but when I ordered, I asked if I could substitute the layered salad for the potato salad. The waitress didn't tell me that I would be charged another $2 for subbing the layered salad. The layered salad portion was about 1/3 cup and instead of real pieces of bacon actually had Baco-s -- i.e., fake bacon pieces. My daughter had a piece of lemon icebox pie for dessert. As I ordered no dessert, I tasted my daughter's and confirmed what I could see which is that it had Cool Whip on the top instead of real whipped cream and the crust was awful and clearly not homemade. This was not Southern food that was worth such a steep price. I live in Atlanta and I'm used to high prices which I'm happy to pay if the food is worth it. This food most definitely wasn't. The service was good though. I recommend just driving by Mammy's and getting a picture, then going into Natchez for lunch. read more
