We dined here for New Year's Eve. Making a reservation was a snap with Open Table. The restaurant encompasses most of the first floor of the Monmouth Home. The history is rich and the details are beautiful. For NYE, they did a four-course prefix dinner. Everything was delicious. We were in town for a long weekend in Natchez and did a little research online and talked to some locals about where to have a great meal and the consensus was Restaurant 1818. The restaurant is located in the Monmouth Inn which is on a gorgeous property. I would highly suggest taking a stroll around after dinner to take it all in. The restaurant is upscale, but you would feel comfortable wearing business casual attire. DaVu was the manager who was incredibly kind and the service was on par with restaurants in larger cities, but in a small town. The food was top notch. Everything was amazing. I'm a southerner and can confidently say that the fried green tomatoes were some of the best I've ever had. The moulard duck breast was also the highlight of the entrees. We had several desserts which were all good, but the white chocolate bread pudding was the clear winner. Also, make sure to get a mint julep to complete your southern experience. read more

2 stars is generous for the price we paid. My old fashion was not mixed well and the sugar was all on the bottom of the glass. My wife's drink was "fine" she said. First strike. I got the Duck entree, the plating was unimaginative at best crude at worst. The duck fat was improperly rendered, making for chewy instead of crispy duck skin and fat. The wild rice pilaf was mushy and bland. Strike Two My wife got a Filet and mashed potatoes. The steak was cooked well but no way was that a USDA Prime dry aged steak. My wife wanted desert so we split the cheese cake. Seemed like a store bought cheese cake and not a high end restaurant desert. It was fine but not worth the money. My final gripe is the service. It was a Tuesday night and not terribly busy yet the servers were not attentive waited a long time for food, waters, and the check. Strike three. For a dinner that was $75 a person before tip I expected a lot more. read more

We were the only people in the restaurant at first which made us nervous but then it started filling up and for good reason. The food is soooo freaking good. We have dined here twice. Both times we were in town for Angels on the Bluff. Dao was a fantastic waiter and the food was excellent both times. We had a group of ten and were seated in a private room and we had a great time with our party. read more

Would have been 5 but service was not up to what it should have been. Other than that food was delicious from the beginning. The tiny biscuits are fantastic. The fried green tomatoes with crab topping was fried just right. The mushroom baguette was a great mix and bread was soft which I prefer. The arugula salad was light and not spicy which made it enjoyable. The duck with wild rice was exquisite and reminded me of Peking duck somehow but was juicy and tender and would order it again!. The pork chop didn't have flavor other than char and was slightly dry in spots. The pecan pie was alright as well. The mint julep was very sweet but really liked the cup it came in. The Sauvignon blanc waS fantastic. Worth the price and atmosphere. Would do this again, and happy food was delicious. GGreat to be able to walk to since we are staying here. This was one beautiful place to dine. We began in the bar area, with cocktails, and a plate of appetizers. Such a gorgeous place, filled with antiques and history. The main dining area was absolutely mesmerizing. The staff is top notch, and the food is too. I had redfish, and my friend had the red crab / and we split our plates and put the crab on top of the redfish. OMGoodness this was wonderful. I also got to try the lamb, which was stellar, and some pinot noir as well. The grounds are gorgeous, the house is something of the past, but very on point with its beauty. My wife and I ate at this restaurant on 12/28/21. My ribeye steak was small but cooked well and tasted good. My wife enjoyed her red fish meal. Getting a refill on water was a struggle for our waiter mr. Vu. We ordered a cheese cake for dessert. The pics on line had a very appetizing cheese cake, what we got was a still frozen cheese cake slice from sams. We told mr. Vu and at first it almost like he questioned us by trying to cut the cheese cake himself which when he did broke off like a frozen cheese cake would. After he did his test he did offer us something else which we declined and asked for the check. He brought the check and didn't take the frozen cheese cake we sent back off the ticket. read more

Great location in an historic antebellum home. The service was excellent, knowledgeable and patient. My friend and I each had the ribeye - both cooked to perfection and deliciously yet simply seasoned. George took great care of us though by the time we navigated our way through the meal the dining room was deserted. The red wines by the glass were just a tad boring but a nice variety of white options. Was in Natchez for Thanksgiving. ...initially I was bummed...I was having a drink at the bar and was informed I was under dressed for the restaurant...however the next day was Thanksgiving which I had reservations ....uh no no I was not under dressed the prior day...that incident put a bad taste in my mouth...HOWEVER, Thanksgiving supper was amazing the next day and the staff was super attentive...food delicious...I will definitely visit again next trip to Natchez... read more

Had a very pleasant dining experience during my stay here. The dining room is in the former sitting room of the historic Monmouth House. The chandeliers and table scapes created an elegant dining atmosphere. I went with my mother and we enjoyed the lamb pops and fried green tomatoes appetizers both which were cooked to perfection and delicious. I had the arugula salad with shrimp for my main course. I would recommend the salads, very fresh and the shrimp was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We enjoyed the salted caramel cheesecake with vanilla ice cream for dessert, it was delicious and I wish I could have finished it all! I'm ready to explore the entrees on my next visit. Our waiter was very kind and helpful. Overall a very nice dining experience, I would definitely recommend it to anyone traveling in the area. read more

I came here with my boyfriend to celebrate our second anniversary. The restaurant is beautiful and offers a wonderful ambience. However, our waitress was quite rude to us during our meal. She refused to let us order our appetizers first and then order our entrees...she made us order everything at once. This of course made our food come out much too fast and made the meal feel rushed. She also gave me a butter knife with my steak and when I asked for a steak knife she told me that the butter knife should cut it and that I didn't need another knife. I persisted and was eventually given a proper knife. Her attitude really put a damper on our evening. For such a lovely looking establishment, they really should step up the service. Found this historical gem of a restaurant on our first road trip since the pandemic began. A wonderful find well worth the wait. When I was growing up my parents would frequently bring me to Natchez for the Pilgrimage tour of all the amazing antebellum houses. I remember eating in Restaurant 1818 soon after it opened and again every time time we would visit after. The food in those days was good but not particularly memorable as the amazing ambiance of Monmouth overwhelmed the senses to such a degree that almost anything might have been acceptable. Recently there has been new ownership at the restaurant that has raised the standards of the food to new heights and made it the equal to the powerful experience of the setting the restaurant is located in. This restaurant is certainly a treasure that should be experienced and savored for the location alone makes it worth it. read more
