I've been to numerous Gastro doctors, and when my last one retired I was referred over to doctor Mehta. I was concerned with her negative Yelp reviews, but still made an appointment with her. With all my many visits I have found Dr. Mehta very kind, attentive, and thorough. Her staff is great as well. She actually listened to my concerns with previous procedures and medications, which has made a world of difference with my gastro issues. My husband had a catastrophic brain stem stroke in January and has had the usual severe swallowing difficulty with poor balance. Our primary physician recommended an evaluation by Dr. Mehta as we are new to the area. Dr. Mehta and her assistant, Jasmine, were extremely helpful to us as they are helping us transition from out of state with the gastrointestinal tube nutrition and assisting with ongoing treatment. The hospital care we had received in another state was fine but we truly lacked direction in terms of monitoring my husband as an outpatient there. We had had very poor speech therapy resources, no guidance with regard to his nutrition on tube feedings. Dr. Mehta embraced the task of coordinating with a company who not only sends monthly food for feedings but intervenes therapeutically with a company nutrition consultant familiar with the food. Dr. Mehta illustrated to me how to utilize laxatives and immediately her assistant explained in full how the referral was already made and how we were being contacted. I have seen reviews here where the person refers to the doctor using her computer in front of the patient. I found Dr. Mehta extremely capable of discussing my husband's history and problem list and still asking pertinent questions using plenty of eye contact. We are going to continue seeing Dr. Mehta who made a huge impression on us in her attention to the preventive care for a person who had been significantly incapacitated, making him feel like he was seen and empathized with. We were treated with a calm respect and obviously very experienced treatment ideas. As an RN for 50 years, I am not easily impressed but Dr. Mehta is pretty wonderful in my book. read more

I saw this doctor two years ago and have waited to see how others reviewed her to make sure that my experience was not unique. I agree with all of the other posters that she is among the worst physicians I have ever seen and this is primarily due to her horrific bedside manner. Mehta spent 90% of the time looking at her computer while she talked to me and I found her rude, and condescending, especially if a had a question. My husband is a colleague, and had just been in to see her the week previously, we are the same age and we both have a first-degree relative who had colon cancer. She told my husband that there was no issues with him to have a colonoscopy before 50, but spent several minutes trying to convince me that I was not an appropriate candidate at this time for a colonoscopy. When I confronted her with my husband's visit the week before she became quite upset but did agree to schedule a colonoscopy. After speaking with my husband and a few other friends within the medical community, it was recommended to me that I cancel my colonoscopy appointment with her. I understand how difficult it is to attract quality physicians to the Coachella Valley and have had some fairly eye-opening experiences compared to San Francisco or Los Angeles, this doctor takes the cake. I wish there was an option to give a negative star rating, as this physician deserves several. read more

Bedside manner is everything when working with a patient, especially a new patient. During my first visit with this physician, I was not treated as a valued patient, or even as a human being. The doctor did not have the decency to sit and chat with me about my history, my concerns, my symptoms, how the disease affects my life, nothing. All of her attention was on her computer screen the entire time. She barked questions at me, and, if I didn't respond immediately, she would bark the same question a bit louder. Very demanding. If I would try to say something that I wanted to say, I would be interrupted by one of her questions or comments. I felt belittled and condescended to. Not only that, I had been in contact with her assistant, Monica, a few times before the visit. My goal was to schedule a colonoscopy with Dr. Mehta, during a short period of time in which I would be in the desert. I had given Monica all of the details and asked her to discuss the timeline with the doctor to ensure that it would be possible. When I came in for my visit, however, the doctor had no idea that I had come from out of town and that I wanted to schedule the colonoscopy within a two-week window. There was very poor communication between the doctor and her assistant. Last, my colonoscopy was scheduled for January 2nd. On December 26th I fell ill with the flu. It lasted for 10 days, during which time I was in bed coughing, unable to swallow without pain, achy, headachey, with severe fatigue. I was concerned about the upcoming colonoscopy, and I wanted to extend my trip in order to reschedule the date. I knew the prep would be horrendous, stripping my body of electrolytes and nutrients. So I called the doctor on Saturday, December 30th, wanting her to return my call to discuss the situation. I spoke with the answering service supervisor, Mary, and explained how important this was. I never heard back from the doctor. I called the answering service again on New Year's Day, the day before my scheduled colonoscopy. I did not want to begin the prep having been so sick. I spoke with Mary again, and she told me that the doctor had advised, on Saturday, that I should go ahead with the prep and show up for the colonoscopy anyway. If I were too sick to go through with the colonoscopy Mehta would send me home. SERIOUSLY? If you have never done a colonoscopy prep, you would understand how ridiculous this proposition sounds. It was at that moment that I decided I could have nothing to do with this doctor. The doctor's assistant, Monica, phoned me on the morning of the colonoscopy. I explained to her my experience with the answering service, the fact that the doctor never had the courtesy to return my call, the fact that I had been wanting to reschedule the colonoscopy and extend my trip, etc. Monica told me that the doctor had never discussed me with the answering service and that I should call the answering service supervisor, whose name I believe was Carl. When I did phone Carl, and I explained what had happened and how poorly the situation was handled, he hung up on me! The whole ordeal was just shocking. The level of patient care I received was probably among the lowest in my 54 years. If this doctor wants to become a reputable gastroenterologist, she needs to respect her patients. She came across as arrogant, snooty, uncaring, and self-absorbed. read more

Agree with all the other substandard reviews after a mess up about a lower GI which Dr Gonzalez ordered she now claims she never got it. They handle my liver diseases I had one visit in October my next is April my colon has an existing problem and an MRI said it collapsed they say it's not benign hello I never said anything' about cancer I've not had a colonoscopy since I was 50 I'm 65 now. Her NP was rude and condescending and she called me and was worse no empathy or care and talked over me I told her no thank you I'll find another after reading these reviews My gut told me right literally as I'm in pain she said she could fit me in January or February or she could pop in sooner when NP or she referred to Np as Dr Garnier. She's the MD. He's an NP. I told her she was rude because she talked right over me she has 3 Clinic snd I just don't know. read more

Dr. Mehta's nurse Monica is impossible to work with. She called in the wrong blood work to Labcorp and won't send medical records to my insurance provider for coverage. It has been over 3 months! I am now denied for a $1,200.00 claim because of her mistakes. Meanwhile, Dr. Mehta continues to try to misdiagnose me with gluten intolerance, which I already cut out of my diet months ago. read more

STAY FAR AWAY. Terrible after the fact service. Wife had to get blood work done. Turns out, the initial blood work request was not ordered properly so they had to order it AGAIN. The office has now decided to not take any of our calls, picks up then hangs up the phone. They have not sent the medical records to the insurance as needed to verify it was covered for over 2 months. When requested again to do this nothing has been sent. They are now avoiding calls and refusing to help the situation. Be very wary about choosing this doctor as it's very easy to see that just want to take money and not listen to their patients. read more

Run from this woman! My elderly mother was referred to this gastroenterologist. She was suffering from stomach pains and severe diarrhea. Dr. Mehta's diagnosis was that it was her back that was causing her pain. If the patient comes in with gastrointestinal pain and problems one would think that a simple x-ray would be indicated. Two months after doctor Mehta's diagnosis my mother died following emergency surgery. The surgeon who operated on my mother could not believe the incompetence of this doctor. He showed me her x-rays and pointed out how obvious her problem was. Dr. Mehta proposed treatment was for the wrong part of her body. When confronted with this fact Dr Mehta's excuse was "An x-ray? That would have been very intrusive...she should have come back to see me". Without taking an x-ray (which is not intrusive) patients will die under the hands of doctor Mehta. I would be afraid of her performing surgery as well. My mother was full of life and following Dr. Mehta's suggestion she died waiting for a back pain injection which actually would have prolonged her gastrointestinal problems. She died three days short of her appointment for the back pain injection. This doctor was not only responsible for my mother's untimely and uncomfortable death she also killed a part of me too. There was no time to say goodbye or properly thank my mother for all she had done for me and my sister. read more

After reading a negative review of Dr Mehta I was concerned about using her for my colonoscopy. I'm happy to report that I had a very good experience at my first appointment with her. Dr Mehta was informative and personable, she did not seem rushed, and I felt very comfortable with her. I'm happy I decided to stick with her. read more

I have been a patient of Dr Mamta Mehta since 2016. I had been treated by numerous physicians for 16 years for Acid Reflux disease and have never improved. I was referred to Dr Mehta by my Gynecologist of 15 years for an opinion. My husband who is a retired Physician and Professor of Medicine reviewed her education and training for certification and verbal references and was impressed. She was very professional and suggested other possibilities for my problem and ordered necessary labs and procedures. My husband and I were very pleased with the timely manner and review of results. No other physicians had previously suggested these tests. As a result we discovered I have an esophageal dismotility problem which is now being treated and I have incredible relief. Due to her training and experience and taking the time to listen I am longer taking medicines that can damage my liver and also cause cancer... It is important to provide your doctors with as much information and to make a list of your symptoms, medications and questions on first visit so you get their attention. I am extremely pleased with my ongoing treatment. read more
