Had a fantastic visit to the manatee viewing area near Tampa. This is such a unique and peaceful spot where you can actually get close views of manatees in their natural environment, especially when the water is cooler and they come in to warm up. The viewing area is well maintained with easy walkways and good spots to stop and watch without feeling crowded. It is calm, relaxing, and a great place to just slow down and take in nature. We were able to pet a few stingrays but not see any manatees. There are also helpful signs and information that explain the manatees and the area, which makes it even more interesting. It is a great place for families, tourists, or anyone who just wants a quiet nature break around Tampa. Overall, a super memorable and peaceful experience. Easy 5 stars and definitely worth visiting if you are in the area. read more

Took a trip out to the Manatee viewing center while we were in the area. This is a free experience, if you're looking for something to do outside, and enjoy with family/kids. The parking lot is a bit small, but if you're lucky you can find a spot in the main lot, otherwise, you have to go down the road to another lot where they shuttle you to the viewing center. They have a small interior space with lots of educational and fun info to learn about the manatees and other creatures living in the area. They also have a small cafe to grab snacks at. The weather on our visit, was nice, but a bit cold, so I think it helped keep some of the crowds away. The water was a bit murky, i think due to the recent tide change, but still always fun to see them a little bit up close, but still in the wild, just doing their thing , and enjoying the warm waters near the power plant. a definite fun, free spot to check out if you're looking for something to do read more

After living in the area for over 5 years, we finally had the opportunity to visit this location. Parking: The main parking lot isn't very big so it fills up pretty quickly. They do have additional overflow parking and trolleys available but depending on how busy it is, it may be quicker to walk over the main area which was about 0.7 miles Experience: There are tons of things to do here from checking out the manatees, viewing the stingrays in the touch tank, walking through the butterfly garden and shopping the gift shop. Great viewing for the manatees, black tip sharks, redfin needlefish. Those are what we saw today. Had to park in overflow lot but expected, cause when its cool, the manatees will hang out & huddle up next to the power plant at the viewing area. They have 2 viewing bridges. You can take the tram from overflow lot, but we chose to walk. They also have several nice walking trails, concession stands and actual bathrooms. Worth a visit. No fee for admittance or parking. Looking for a fun and free activity for all ages...Manatee viewing Center is the place to visit. They are open between November and April. Parking- free with an overflow parking lot where they have golf carts to give you a ride to the viewing center or take a nice walk (about a half mile) through palm trees and vegetation. The center has viewing platforms for you to overlook the Manatees and other fish swimming around. They had people sharing information about manatees which was very informative. There were ample bathrooms, a concession stand and a gift shop. There was also a stingray area where you can get up close and touch them. read more

We went in on opening day this year, Nov. 1st. Very pretty nature walk on the various boardwalks. There is a recording that explains all the flora and fauna of the area. We were able to view about 30 manatee, 10 black tip sharks and several Tarpon. I heard a lady say that in January there will be hundreds of manatee in the area.. This is such a wonderful concept for the Tampa Bay Area; it's a great opportunity for locals and visitors to view manatees in a somewhat "natural" habitat. We particularly enjoyed the stingrays and having the opportunity to touch them. It's a great place to stroll. I think the worst part about this place is the parking and the lack of proper direction. You are literally just circling and the staff members are not helpful, which made me give 4 stars because attempting to park was atrocious. read more

The Manatee Viewing Center is a fantastic free area to check out manatees and just enjoy nature. Parking is free, but the lot can fill up depending when you are visiting. We came on a weekend day and had to wait a bit for a spot, but it was not a big deal. We enjoyed checking out and learning about the manatees while we were here. There are several educational signs throughout the area/on the boardwalks. Afterwards we walked on the trail which was maintained well. I came here on a cold day and there were SO MANY manatees! The facility is really nice, with bathrooms and some fun activities for kids. There is also a tank with rays, though it wasn't open the day I went (probably due to the cold). There is a window with food and drinks as well, I didn't try any but it's nice that they have this available! I went out onto the boardwalk and got to see lots of manatees swimming and huddling, including some babies. There are also small sharks and tarpon. Overall it's a really cool place to go on a cold day and a great activity if you're here on vacation! read more

What a great setup they have here, offering it for "free" to the public. Upon arrival we were directed to the overflow parking lot, about 1/2 mile away. They have a scenic trail you can walk from the lot to the viewing area, but also provided free shuttle service on golf carts that can carry up to 8 people (if not too rotund). The viewing area was patronized by children on school field trips, many elderly, and those in between (foreign tourists included; but it did not feel crowded at all with two viewing platforms. They have a turtle rehabilitation area, butterfly garden, ray petting area, plenty of shaded picnic benches, and more. Of course there were hundreds of manatees too! We were really impressed with how modern the facility looked and felt, with strong infrastructure throughout. The restrooms, gift shop, snack bar area were all very clean. The prices at the snack bar, which is the only photo I will post for an update as of this date, were extremely reasonable, albeit we did not partake in any of it as tempting as it was. The staff was also quite friendly when you needed to interact; and even when you didn't need to. I highly recommend visiting here if you get the chance. read more

My family and I had the best time visiting the manatees! When we arrived, there were plenty of parking spaces available and were able to enter the center easily. The manatees were all hanging out near the walkways/bridges and we even saw a few sharks and turtles swimming around. It was really cool to see the manatees floating around in a safe space. There are so many walkways and areas to explore so that you can view lots of wildlife and they even have signs with images and information about the mangroves, birds and fish so that you can learn while walking around. There are so many great spots for picture taking and the scenery was just gorgeous. I loved looking at the water and really enjoyed watching the fish swim around. We spent about 2 hours at the center and really had a nice time. It's a nice (free) way to spend the day! read more

The Manatee Viewing Center is a wonderful place to visit and best of all, admission is completely free. There's plenty of parking and a long boardwalk that lets you walk out and get an up-close view of the manatees. The center offers educational experiences where you can learn all about manatees, including seeing manatee skeletons. There are also hands-on exhibits like a stingray touch tank and a hurricane simulator. The gift shop is fantastic, with just about anything you could want that features manatees, and there's a small café where you can grab lunch. You'll also find picnic tables along the boardwalk, perfect for sitting, relaxing, and enjoying the view, as well as a lovely butterfly garden. One of the best parts is that the cooler the weather, the more manatees you'll usually see. Even though we've visited many times over the years, we always look forward to going back. It's a place that never disappoints and is a favorite for us year after year. read more

What an amazing experience! I just happened to be in the area for a medical appointment, and decided to drop by. It was my first time visiting the viewing center. It won't be my last. Upon entering (it opens at 10:00am), I was told that manatees were going to be released into the canal that morning. I couldn't believe it. This was my lucky day! Every staff member that I came across was so excited about it. I can totally see why. Apparently it doesn't happen very often. I ended up staying there for a full 90 minutes. I just had to see every minute of it. It's an experience. I basically walked down through the mangroves on the Tidal Trail to the viewing area just to see all the manatees and fish that were huddled together in front of the power plant. The trail is very organized with boards describing the wildlife that you may encounter. The staff there are so friendly, and eager to answer any questions. It's so educational! I was just amazed by all the wildlife that I was seeing around me. Before I knew it, it was already time to view the releasing of the manatees. It was the best experience ever. It's something I never thought I'd ever witness. It's so great to see manatees making this sanctuary their home during the winter months. What an awesome place to view them in their own habitat. So, Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center is seasonal. It opens daily from November 1st through April 15th. Give yourself plenty of time to explore it. The trail closes at 4pm. There's normally a Rays Touch Tank for kids to interact with the stingrays. That whole area was not available during my visit. The stingrays were relocated due to damage to their habitat caused by the recent hurricanes. I missed seeing the observation tower as well as the displays inside the education building. I can't wait to go back to see it all. read more

Full free experience, you park in the lot right outside but if it's full, they have another lot a little further away for you. Not too many manatees were out today yet we still saw a few and were very pleased. Stingray exhibit and all other little pieces of the main center are fun, regardless of age. Go early and use the overflow parking to avoid the crowds. There are nice shell paths to walk along seeing native plants and observing nature. Signs posted tell you some history and information. Walk up to the top of the observation tower and view the surrounding area as well across the bay. Signs posted here also give you some history. The Tidal boardwalk takes you under the mangroves and over water to several different points at which you can look for sharks, fish, rays and manatees! There is a Kona ice truck, gift shop, restrooms, picnic tables, a food counter, and manatees all within a short walk. read more

Definitely recommend this for anyone who hasn't been. We had such a wonderful visit at the Manatee viewing center they have two different board walks to view manatees of they make an appearance also they have a stingray tank that you're able to pet the stingrays but wasn't open yet but will definitely be back for. They also have a cafe that we tried which was okay very generic but cheap. We also went inside the room that had a 3D diagram of a manatee and all kinds of facts about them. We also stopped by the gift shop that had so many cute manatee decors, shirts, toys etc. and did I mention it's free to get in so it's definitely worth a visit. read more

This place was awesome. It's small and not overwhelming at all, which made it really enjoyable, and it's also inexpensive. Spending money is optional as parking is free. My wife and I spent $20 one afternoon there after a purchase at the gift shop and a small manatee mold. The stingrays were a fun surprise I was not expecting. This is a free spot to view manatees! Who is giving it anything less than 5 stars?? Manatees have been on and off the endangered list for a while and it was a wonderful experience to see them basking in the waters in their natural habitat. An unexpected treat was watching these small sharks in the water who would occasionally jump out of the water and put on a little show. The employees were all friendly, helpful, and wonderful. We chose to walk to the viewing center and back - but that's a wonderful option just to meander the trail at our own pace. It was easy to find a spot to view the manatees once up on the viewing deck. Everything was under construction and torn up. The parking lot was full of construction vehicles, along with other visitors so finding a spot to park with sort of ridiculous. It was kind of a bummer. I won't go back until the construction is complete. read more

What a wonderful thing to do in the winter. Manatees don't like the winter chill so they come to this power plant to stay warm. This is a wonderful park to come to . It's free to park and free to visit. You can get a little buggy to give you a free ride to the entrance of the manatee bay . I walked & it was a rather beautiful through such a wonderful nature. Entrance to the park there's places where you can just sit and have ice cream and take some cute photos. There's also a little café where you can get some food and snacks. There is a gift shop where you can buy everything manatee that you can imagine. Cousy, T-shirts, pajamas, knickknacks, and Christmas ornaments!! There's a museum where you could find out everything about manatees . And then there's the outdoor area where the manatees are hanging out with their friends, living their best life in the current of the power plant . There were hundreds , There is a wonderful docent they're giving wonderful information about manatees. This is a wonderful opportunity to be educated on how precious these creatures are and how lucky we are to get to enjoy them today. The Manatee Viewing Center has been on my list to visit. It was a perfect FREE family day. It was quite busy but we were able to find parking with no issues. There are EV charging stations as well. There is a large area to view the manatee, rays and fish. There is a boardwalk through the mangroves. I would suggest moving your car to the overflow parking to take the shuttle to the turtle hospital to save you a shuttle ride there and back. The turtle hospital is also worth a visit. We were lucky enough to witness four turtles arriving at the facility and saw an intake. read more

Absolutely wonderful experience. Very educational and shows how humans can coexist with nature while minimizing the impact towards animals. Lots of information boards to educate wildlife ecology, conservation and renewable energy. Since the manatees hang out in shallow waters, you're guaranteed to see them! I even got to see up close a manatee mom with her baby. Observation tower was a long walk to get to, but gives a very nice view of the surround forest and nature reserve. The renewable energy centre remains open till 5pm even though the trails close at 4pm. I especially like that there are two electric charging stations at the front of the parking lot, and you can use the level 2 chargers for free! read more

This is a great place to experience manatees in their natural habitat. We also saw several species of huge fish. It's a free experience for people of all ages. Wear comfy walking shoes as the walk from overflow parking can take about 10 minutes. We rode the trolley from the parking lot to the center and then walked back afterwards. They also have walking paths throughout, great way to get your steps in and have the littles burn off some energy. There's an indoor space where they have interactive learning exhibits, it's air conditioned so you can cool off for a bit. read more

We have been to Manatee Viewing Center quite a few times in the last several years. When we went a few weeks ago, it was a perfect day for it. This place is awesome, especially since it is free. Totally worth a stop! We got to see a bunch of Manatees, as well as some little sharks, that we identified by their fins popping up! We also saw a stingray that jumped out of the water three times. There are also some cool nature trails that you can walk on to the viewing area, or there is a shuttle.
