My husband enjoyed the Mongolian beef very much; I had the sweet & sour chicken, which was perfect...not too much sauce, so the crunch on the chicken pieces was not spoiled. Served with fried rice, cooked perfectly. Lunch special came with egg roll, fried rice and choice of soup, egg drop or hot and sour. Love the ambiance. Soft oriental music accentuated the lovely decor. Mid-afternoon, it was very quiet. I admired our service. Gracious and considerate, attentive but not hovering. Appreciate it. This restaurant is terrible. If you open on Christmas Day and expect customers, you need to be prepared. We ordered carry out online well ahead. They said 45 min. We showed up at on hour. Not ready. They said another hour. We arrived 85 min later and Not Done! Another person was behind us and did same thing. We are now sitting in restaurant waiting together. Two families, no dinners yet. This place is a hot mess. Disorganized, unapologetic and chaotic. You can here chef yelling in kitchen. They even asked me to pay before I got the food. I said no way. Last year was only on hour wait. 1st time, shame on them, second time, shame on them. It's a business and one I will never come back to. I can't review the food because I'm not sure if I will get it. 10-6-18 This use to be one of my favorite Chinese places but the food taste has now changed for me. The vegetable fried rice had a very unique taste but now it's just bland. I also found out two of my favorite waitresses quit because the relatives son is now working there and was causing a lot of trouble. The waitress was excellent and had to do everything. I did tip her week and asked if she got the tip and she said yes. The older lady that should of been doing her job was sitting talking to a customer or a friend loudly. Some of the things she was talking about should not have been mentioned there. The family members son did nothing to help the waitress I had. He just sat in a corner playing on his phone. I wonder who else quit as a few of the dishes I bought had a different taste to them. I don't think I'll be back any time soon if at all. What a shame as I've been coming here for years. 10-1-17 My friend and I had Joanne for our waitress. She is very attentive to our needs. I've had Joanne for years at this place and the old Kowloon Restraunt. We had the vegetable fried rice which had a wonderful taste. My friend and I got Lemon Chicken and Honey Chicken. What a sad dinner. Our egg rolls appeared to have been cooked last week and reheated today, although they were almost cold when we got them. The chop suey was ghastly!! Terrible food. It's very sad. Got the worse Xmas eve dinner, ordered 2 lemon chickens, egg rolls and crab Rangoon on line to be picked up for 6:30pm. Never got a copy of the email promised, husband went over we live 3 minutes away. Husband got home at 7:50pm. Lemon chicken had mushy wet greasy coating, no lemon sauce got hot mustard packets, some one might be missing cashew chicken order. Will say large amounts of chicken were given. Egg rolls one looked rather strange like it had ringworm? We pulled off mushy, greasy coating on chicken. Not sure what we will do with the chicken. This place didn't enforce people wearing a mask my husband said. So sad not worth the 35.00 we spent. Crab Rangoon very hard egg rolls worse ever from there. read more

I cant get enough of this restaurant! I adore their shrimp tempura, hot and sour soup, and, of course, their sesame chicken! The delivery is always super fast, and the food is always piping hot! The tempura is always perfectly crunchy and pairs perfectly with the sauce it comes with. The sesame chicken is sweet and savory, and somehow, even though it is coated in a delicious sauce, the skin remains crunchy while the inside is juicy. Definitely check this place out! Mandarin House is your standard Chinese restaurant. It's been around for years and the last time we ate in, it seemed a little tattered and worn, which doesn't matter much to us since we typically get carry out. It seems like no matter what or how much we order, it's always ready in 10 minutes! Our favorites include the Szechuan Chicken with Peanuts, Szechuan String Beans, Mongolian Beef and Chicken with Snow Peas (which I happen to find bland and boring, but my husband loves). The eggs rolls are always crispy and the hot and sour soup is consistently good. Nothing really wows with this place, but it does hit the spot for your standard Chinese food craving. This place gives you so much food you will always take a to- go home container. The food is outstanding the taste is high-quality and the service is excellent. There is never a long wait between cocktails appetizers and your food, the servers are always pleasant and everybody pitches in and brings food to the table when you have a large party so almost everybody has their food at the same time. We went here for dinner and first we were confronted with no one the podium. Then we walked around the whole lobby and the rest of the restaurant to find nobody. After about 15 min we knocked on the swinging kitchen door. The young man came out and attempted to help us with our order. He asked what was in the triple delight and he said meat and some food. Then so I can only assume it's his father came out and repeatedly tried to get us to leave by stating that there was a 35 minute wait. I assume because it was a game day but that's a horrible customer service. I explain it over there because I love their egg rolls and he sighed and stated "well if you want." So we went to J.W. We went for lunch and I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the garlic chicken lunch special which was supposed to be spicy. There was zero heat. It was almost if they had made the lunch specials at the beginning of the week and reheated each day until it's gone. The sauce was congealed and almost booger consistency. We had an absolutely horrible experience with this restaurant this evening. We placed an order online and went there to pick it up. Sat there for over 30 minutes waiting on the order. Called because there was no one at the desk. Had a 10-year-old answer the phone and when I asked to speak with a manager refused to get me a manager and kept asking me what was wrong. I ordered the Orange Chicken and paid extra for a bowl of Hot and Sour soup (Which I LOVE at Ho Ping House!) The soup at Mandarin House Restaurant looked cloudy- it had a VILE, NASTY and REVOLTING SMELL to it! I tasted 2 spoonfulls after I picked-out the chunks of meat-fat, it was VILE, NASTY and REVOLTING!!! The orange Chicken wasn't AS bad, I managed to eat almost half of it, but I don't ever want to taste it again. The interior of Mandarin House Restaurant is a kind of nauseating peach-pink with a very dreck atmosphere- like eating inside a giant Pepto-Bismal (rhymes with DISMAL!) bottle. Never again. The Mandarin House Chinese restaurant has very tasty food with the traditional numerous menus options. The pricing is commensurate with other Chinese restaurants in our area. Due to Covid, our family has not dined inside a restaurant and this one has no outside seating. There is no drive thru or delivery. They do have Door Dash available. So I cannot speak to the service of the wait staff. One habitual activity I have learned to overlook in this restaurant concerns the accuracy of the orders for take out. On many occasions they have forgotten to include items such as a quart of soup, the brown sauce for egg foo young, and the obligatory fortune cookies. We have to check each order with the cashier. They advertise on their takeout menu that an order over $25 is due a 10% discount. However you have to remind them every time you pay for the order or you won't get the discount. These two things mar an otherwise nice place to dine in or carry out. I recommend this restaurant with the two problems mentioned. read more

I base a considerable amount of my opinion regarding Chinese Restaurants on their version of Hot and Sour Soup. Here at Mandarin House it is some of the best I have ever had! After spending many years in the Bay Area of California, I have had access to some phenomenal Chinese foods. They do it right here. No question. I stop by as often as I can and try to have something new once in a while. Everything from the Pot Stickers to Dragon meets Phoenix is head and shoulders above almost every other establishment in the area. Dishes are served with care and the presentation is elegant. They think of everything and try to anticipate every need, but are unobtrusive about it. They only have one dish I am not fond of, the Sesame Chicken. It has a taste I am unfamiliar with, almost a burned taste, though there are no indications that the dish is actually burned. It might be the spice mix, I don't know. That said, every other dish I have had there is A+ perfect! read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant in the Michiana area in my view. Big Variety on the menu. The eggrolls when not a bit overcooked are among the best I've ever eaten. The appetizer sampler is a favorite. I've had several items on the menu and all have been delicious. I usually like to try something new on their menu when I go. But my favorite standards are Sweet and sour dishes. Beef with Vegetable and the Mongolian Beef. Their pork-fried rice is awesome as well. read more

I would have given this place 5-stars if it wasn't for the unfriendly waitress that we had yesterday afternoon. My family loves this restaurant and have been going there for years. The food is very good and the launch specials are well priced. Over the many years the staff has gone through a few changes and even the ownership changed. Overall, the change in ownership has been good. The food is still very good. But, the change in waiting staff is not so good. Prior to change in ownership the waiting staff was consistently very very pleasant. Since the change of ownership, which happened several years ago, most of the staff have acted and felt like they are trying hard to be tolerant. One of the servers in particular has a real problem. She acts like she is very unhappy and doesn't like people. I hope the management of Mandarin House reads this review and talks with her and the rest of the wait staff. Hopefully, a little training and some compassionate listening will resolve the problem. read more

This place looked a little sketchy on the outside, but on the inside it resembled what a traditional dining chinese restaurant from...the 90s. The service was brisk as the server was a bit awkward and seemed to rush us a bit. She refilled our cups once, when they were half full. However she didnt refill them when they were completely empty. When we received our appetizers, they all came out at different times. The appetizers were okay, some better than others. Later when we got our entrees (which also came out at different times), they were lack luster. We got orange chicken, honey chicken, lemon chicken, and coconut shrimp. The coconut shrimp was the only entree that was really worth eating. The orange and lemon sauce tasted like melted down candy and was extremely thick and bland. The fried rice and white rice were the saviours for the dishes as they were cooked well and seasoned liberally. At the end of the day, the price and the quality do not go hand in hand and nothing would give me a reason to return, unfortunately. read more
