Places is absolutely falling apart children running all around the restaurant. The place is not clean It is fairly unsanitary. Went here for valentine's day- it was great!! they were still celebrating lunar new year so there were a few interesting items. Was really excited to see that they had xiao long bao. Okay, so my previous thoughts on this buffet still stand. I do think its pretty expensive (it's now $19 for lunch during the weekday), I do think that vegetarians will get bored of the food fast here, and I do think the food is still semi-bland. BUT...the service here is always spectacular. The staff are super friendly, and they really do take good care of you during your stay here. I think other restaurants should take notes!! Beginning your meal and ending your meal with a hot towel is always a bonus! I also enjoy that the washrooms are at the back of the restaurant near the dessert bar. I find it super fitting that after a large meal, before hitting up the desserts, you might as well hit up the bathroom first, right? lol Their sushi is also pretty good, and I kept eating all their avocado rolls during my visit there that they stopped refilling them..lol Also the cotton candy machine was working today (I know in my last review I noted that it was broken). I left with a big cone of cotton candy on my way out. I'm not a big fan of the open buffet or all you can eat style restaurant but truth to be told with the amount of variety of dishes that this restaurant display would make me reconsider. It's like that big family dinner that no one wants to host and you might be forced to attend but eventually, you will go and try to make the best out of it but you won't face that at Mandarin because there's something for everyone and yeah I mean almost everyone just to be politically correct. Endless supply of dishes and great vibes from the staff, they will not spare any effort to make your visit more enjoyable. So yes, plan a dinner party and go for it as the only menu you will need is for the beverages. read more

The food was excellent and was some of the best I have had in a while. Service was astonishing. All of the employees greeted me as I entered and they offered me warm towels. I wasn't wearing anything to make them think I was special. Absolutely astounding service. The place looks amazing and greatly decorated and the ambiance was calming. It's been almost 3 years since my original review of this place, so it's time to write an update. When I come to Orleans to visit my family we often get takeout at The Mandarin. The food is consistent, it's cheaper than other places, and it's good for what it is (Canadian Chinese Food). What prompted me to write this updated review and bump them up another star is the customer service we received today. We got the Dinner for 5 for pickup. We paid, got our stuff and left. As we were driving out of the parking lot, the manager ran out (wearing no winter coat in today's freezing temperatures) and flagged us down. He said that they accidentally gave us a wrong dish and if we went back into the restaurant they would give us the correct dish. So my brother went in and they gave him the correct dish and we were told to keep the incorrect dish (spicy chicken), which turned out to be delicious by the way! What great customer service! I was thoroughly impressed. I usually like to support small independent businesses, but I've tried such places in Orleans and the food has been inconsistent and/or very expensive, and customer service at those places pale in comparison to Mandarin (even before today's experience). So we always go back to Mandarin, and after today's experience, there's even more reason to stick with Mandarin. Please refer to my original review for more information about the actual food. Don't get sucked into any of their promotions. Went yesterday because of a senior day promotion where if you spent $20 you would get $10 off. The bill had a modified amount so as to bring the total to 6 cents below the qualifying threshold so was not given the discount. I was a regular client prior to covid but will NEVER go back. If you know what you're getting yourself into, this is probably an okay choice for an Asian buffet. The dessert bar was by far the best. The fried meat dishes tasted a little odd, but I think it's because everything kind of smelled like lemon. They hand you hand towels soaked in a gallon of lemon scented hand cleaner and so it's everywhere. Still, nice decor. Great service - staff are very friendly and efficient. Fun music. I love the Mandarin Chinese Buffet. It's so big and clean and the staff are nice. If you sign up for their newsletter, on your birthday they will send you a coupon for a free birthday meal. The catch is that you have to bring 3 paying friends. They will also take a picture of you and your friends and print it out on a magnet for you as a birthday gift. The food is really good. There are a lot of different dishes and everything is always hot and fresh because it's so busy. They also do take-out. read more

Ok. We are talking about a Chinese buffet here. There are not many of these around that I will go to. This buffet house is not your typical Chinese place. This place is clean, the decor is very nice, and the food is very good and fresh! It is not as good as a quality sit down Chinese restaurant where you order your meal, but it is close. They have a good salad bar, a grill with a chef, sushi, soup bar, a section with various Chinese (American) food, and a really nice desert section. The staff there are excellent. When you arrive they bring you to your table and a Waiter brings you a hot towel to clean your hands, as well as when you are finished eating. The waiter serves you drinks as well and anything else you request. They also have specialty evenings where they have such things as crab legs etc. I have been here a few times now and I have not been disappointed. read more

Given that I'm Chinese myself (and not a big fan of AYCE since I get full too easily), I'm probably harder on this place and would give it 3 stars. However, my coworkers who are Caucasian LOVE this place and would probably rate it 5 stars if they could, hence the final 4 star rating. I thought the food was alright -- they had a wide variety of Asian food and Western food, from stir-fries and sushi to cheesecake and mashed potatoes. The Chinese food here was definitely cooked in a westernized way (think beans and broccoli, ie. no vegetables that you would only find in an Asian grocery store like T&T). I really liked the dessert fruit tarts (just like the ones at T&T) and some of the sushi was pretty good as well. As with all AYCE places, it is probably worth it if you're able to eat a lot. The décor is really nice though for an AYCE place, and on weekdays the price is cheaper (albeit no crab legs!). The staff were pretty courteous and attentive. read more

The crab legs are pretty incredible. I'd say the best experience of the buffet! The fish in the sushi area weren't so fresh, but that's ok! The dessert section has everything and if you are into that, it can be an amazing experience. My friend especially loved the grilled pineapple. I think they had paprika on it and gave it a good kick. The service was 5-star too! They must have trained their servers really hard, which is the opposite to most Chinese buffet restaurants. We went on Christmas Eve, there were more white people than Asians. No matter you grew up with authentic asian food or are more used to the western Chinese food, I think you can find plenty of options to enough your meal. Me and my guy went today. Im not a buffet fanatic but this is by far the best buffet i've seen.. there is so much food to pick from. And the food was excellent. Everything i ate was fresh and tasty. I loved it. The service was definitely there, for a buffet restaurant. You dont ever get thirsty or have an empty plate in front of you. Though we seemed to be the only "young" couple in the place, the atmosphere was so warm and welcoming.. i also cant forget to mention how beautiful the place is..there are large fish tanks, first time i ever see this in a restaurant. .. i loved it. The Mandarin Chinese buffet chain has finally made its way to Ottawa. I have been to the Mandarin in London a handful of times so I can compare the two. The building is brand new so it's very bright and clean. The buffet is in the middle of the restaurant and there's 4(I think) dining areas off the main hall. This location is a bit smaller than the London one and it's already getting packed so calling for a reservation is likely a good idea. They serve both a lunch and dinner buffet with a short break between the meals to switch everything over. The food is quite good, pretty standard across the other Mandarin restaurants I've been in. The food is all fresh and constantly being refilled so nothing gets stale, being so busy must help. For food quality this is the best Chinese buffet in town. Keep in mind this is more Chinese Canadian over authentic Chinese food, but that's most buffets. Everything is fresh, hot and with good flavor. The Mandarin will now be my go to Chinese buffet in town. read more

I've been meaning to try this place. I keep hearing people rave on about it. Finally made the drive on a rainy Sunday night. The place was pretty busy. Service was prompt and we were seated in room D. Everyone around our table seemed to be having a good time. Mountains of crab legs were being devoured and children were squealing in delight at the dessert bar! I really enjoyed the crab legs and the prime rib. The other food was good, but the egg rolls were a disappointment. Best dessert bar I've ever seen at a Chinese buffet. Like almost everyone else the price seems a little high, about 85 bucks, including tax and tip, for two people drinking water. The floors were slippery and greasy, so I wouldn't eat off of them!
