My family loves asian food. They love it so much anywhere we go, we gotta to have some asian food and rice. While on a recent trip to Ontario my parents wanted to Chinese food. We found this AYCE buffet called Mandarin right off the highway. The entrance is grand with koi ponds flanking an entrance bridge. A long bar greets you at the left and staff and host are eager to greet and get you seated. The host gladly walks you through the buffet showing all their points of interest. They had all the favorites from a salad bar, fried rice, beef broccoli, seafood and many more. They had a small but adequate sushi bar with basic rolls as well as sashimi. The dessert bar had everything from cakes, tarts and many flavors of scoop it yourself ice cream which seem to be a crowd facorite. This place is great for AYCE Chinese food that definitely hits the spot as Mandarin will leave you feeling satisfied. read more

Lovely atmosphere. Customer service is exceptional and very welcoming. We come here often for celebrations and will always recommend this wonderful establishment to friends and family. This location is under new ownership and owner came over and introduced himself. The food is fresh and beautifully displayed. No pushing or cutting in line with most customers, and the staff is always refreshing the buffet. Everything i have tried is delicious! My daughter is a huge fan of the sushi and gravitates to it immediately. Lots of options for everyone and the dessert station is one of the best I've seen. Very thankful to live close enough to dine here as often as we do. Congratulations to the new owners and staff. You are all wonderful! read more

The easiest way to lose a customer. The bill came $85 with taxes and at the time to pay the machine only allows you to tip 15, 18 or 20% over the final price. There is no option to pay your own tip, which for me is 10% over the total before taxes. That is fair enough. I complained and the administrator got upset. I ended up also upset paying separately 15% for the tip, and after our discussions he was able to change the machine to only charge me the original $85. He kept telling me the bank programs the machines that way, which is false as I go to at least 3 restaurants every week and never get into this obligation or limitation. Last time I go to that restaurant. I cannot be forced to tip at the rate they want and on top of the taxes. They have no idea about the meaning of customer experience or customer service. For $3 to 5$ they do not get today, the lose a customer for good, somebody who will be passing the bad experience around. Bad administration. Very narrow vision of the future. read more

This is my first time going to the Mandarin's Kanata location and I must say it is the best one in the city. The restaurant is laid out similar to the other locations where you have the main area with the food and multiple rooms. The customer service was a step above most places with the staff being super friendly and making your dining experience that much more enjoyable. The food is always good with a large selection. My personal favorites are the salmon, lemon chicken and the oysters. They have an awesome selection of desserts which has a sugar free cheesecake that is awesome. I will definitely be back again to this location as it is local to me and not too busy compared to the other locations. read more

Mandarin Restaurant - a plate of food on a table - Buffets Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

Been to this particular 3 times so far and each time the experience has been nothing short of wonderful. The food is as you would expect from Mandarin, but definitely a step up from "traditional" Chinese buffets you find in Canada. They have a wide variety of food to suit most tastes. From a large salad bar, to the long line of piping hot Chinese and Western food or sushi. The lovely dessert bar is always my favourite place. One of the great things that Mandarin does right is the special seasonal dishes they introduce (ie. Easter, Thanksgiving, Canada Day, Christmas, etc.) which helps mix things up and not get dull. It might be because it is a newer establishment, but the service and professionalism of the Kanata location is impeccable. Each of the 3 times I've been there, 2 different servers were working in the rooms and they were all very friendly, helpful and attentive. They ensure the table is clean and drinks are refilled even before you noticed you have taken your last sip. The management seem to be on top of their game. The first time I was there, my husband and I were one of the very first few people in the door, and I watched the management carefully walk amongst the layout of food and ensure everything was filled and presentable. I even watched one of them take samples of some of the dishes to ensure the quality of the food being served. They stayed on the floor making sure everything ran smoothly. Then as we were leaving, I watched two of the management reaching into the pond in the front lobby scooping out the coins people ignorantly threw in with the fish. It's nice that they care enough to take care of this stuff. PSA: the fish pond is not a wishing well for dirty coins to be thrown in. There is even a large sign that clearly states not to throw coins in. It is very bad for the health of the fish living there, and it can inconvenience the staff as they have to spend time clearing those coins out. All-in-all I think this is my new favourite location out of the ones here in Ottawa. read more

Other than the pricing, this was probably the best buffet I have been to. All the food was hot and tasted good. The staff was constantly going around making sure plates were cleared and drinks refilled. It was also a very clean restaurant. I was impressed with the level of service we received for this visit (once we finally did get to experience it.) But I digress, so let me explain.... It all started with Mandarin finally opening a restaurant in Kanata, and me signing up for emails regarding when they were going to open, and advertising specials and evens, culminating with an email containing a free meal as a birthday gift. Yes they do that; the caveat being that you need to bring 3 or more friends. You have 2 weeks with your birthday in the middle of these weeks, to take advantage of this special. Of course, you can't choose when your birthday falls, and mine is no exception... except of course mine is December 30th - a difficult time of the year. I decided to try it this year, and friends of ours could make it January 6th, so I called the restaurant to find out if I could still use the coupon on that day. The person who answered the phone checked with the manager, who said yes, and she ended the call saying "see you tomorrow ". Great! We were all looking forward to it. So let down when we arrived on Monday - we were turned away at the door; the restaurant was closed for a staff party. Of all nights! So I complained to the man who turned us away, who was surprised that we were told "see you tomorrow". He asked for my snail-mail address, saying he wants to make up for this error, but didn't or wouldn't elaborate. But we were disappointed, not to mention hungry! Then we had more bad luck: being in the mood for Chinese food, we tried 2 other restaurants, both closed on Mondays. So fed up but not yet fed,, we finally gave up and invited our friends over for dinner: chicken with Asian veggies. They didn't leave our place hungry. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And onward ho! to the GOOD news... Here's what happened next: On the following Friday, we received a snail-mail from the Mandarin restaurant in Kanata: dinner for 4, FREE! No strings attached! So, we called our friends back, and my sister-in-law and her husband, and we had dinner for 6 for the price of 2!! It was fabulous fun, and all of us had waaaay too much to eat! There was a delicious variety, and lots of it. This is also a very big restaurant - lots of seating, and it's big; you could get lost! To top things off, this was during a special event at the restaurant: the Celebration of the Chinese New Year!! The "House" was decorated for the event, and the buffets were resplendent with elaborate colour of fabulous varieties of food. In case you have not been to a Mandarin restaurant lately (or ever), they now offer a section of all you can eat Japanese sushi. This is pretty good; much better than we get in the cafeteria at work - although it's a Japanese lady who prepares that as well, it seems she's limited in what she can offer us. She's good - certainly better than the "regular" food we get in the caf, but the bigger variety at the Mandarin is better. However, I might add that the sushi at work always sells out! That should tell you something. At the Mandarin Restaurant on the night we were finally able to go, we were served by Buu, and 1 or 2 other waiters helping her. One server ensured that our water glasses were always topped up - without having to be asked. Thank you! That was greatly appreciated. And because it was a special event to celebrate my birthday, I ordered a special drink with pomegranate in it ($9), which was sort of like sangria and really good. This was a limited offer beverage, for the Chinese New Year. For the record, I found this offer of a free meal to be excellent value, and really generous. Lunch during the week is $20 / $24 on the weekend. Dinner is $28 Monday to Thursday $28 / $31 Friday to Sunday and holidays. Seniors are offered a discount, but you have to show ID, and I'm not sure what constitutes a senior. Children 5 - 12 are 1/2 price for the buffet. Children 4 years old and younger are a $2 sharing price. By the way, did you know that the Mandarin also offers delivery? It's true! I will certainly be back! read more

Around 2:30 pm on June 12th, 2023 the lady sitting at the front desk area for Uber eats orders was very rude and inconsiderate to my boyfriend who is Ivorian. When picking up our food he was ignored and spoken to with a disgusting tone. When I walk in as a white female she treated me with respect and came to help me right away. Its a really fun location in Kanata and one of the better venues around for an all you can eat buffet. Its well known in the area by locals and many people choose to celebrate birthdays or special events there. I live in the area and have been many times. Went to restaurant on Friday night for a birthday party first things is that it costs us $37 a person without drinks or tip!! the food was very poor... ottawa has a big shusi crowd and the mandarin had about 10 or 12 listed, the problem was that all trays were all empty!! the chicken came in many variation but all tasted the same it appears they cook it then throw in a container of sauce. the egg roll had so much pepper that we could not eat it... for $37 I was expecting so much better. food tastes like Cooked from frozen! go get pho or hockey shushi instead read more

My first visit to Manderin in Kanata for a family birthday. We expressed this to our server when we were seated. Thought the price was quite high. The food was reasonably good. Thought service was good until late in our visit. We were a party of 4 and all ordered a drink (Beer and wine) prior to eating. 2 of us ordered a second beer late in our meal. Our son ordered a beer and soon after the manager approached asking if we enjoyed our evening and was concerned about who was driving, particularly asking our birthday son if he was driving and they were concerned about how much alcohol was ordered ( he had one beer 2 hours earlier and wasnt the driver). We're not really sure why the questioning other than they wanted to close, but we were embarrassed but the treatment from a manager. We will not be repeat customers. read more

This location in Kanata does not compare to the one on Hunt Club Road! Their food is laced with sodium and almost everything you eat has a much higher sodium content compared to the one on Hunt Club. I also find that the food variety is less than Hunt Club but when you're paying these high dinner prices and for a buffet I'll stick with the Hunt Club location as it's bigger, better food and a better buffet! I will not be going back to the one in Kanata any time soon! read more

Took my 85 year old mother there for our monthly chinese meal. it was her first time there, when dad was alive, panda gardens was their go to place. she was greatly impressed with the food, service staff and decore. as for myself, the food was even better then when it first opened, hot and tasty. only fault was coffee seemed old, probably brewed in a large batch due to volume; a fresh cup was given but was the same.staff was all smiles and very helpful. our new go to place. well worth the higher price. read more
