I feel so fortunate that I found Dr. Jones and Mandarin Veterinary Clinic when I moved to Jacksonville. I've had many pets through the years and Dr. Jones is by far the best I've had take care of them. She explains things so clearly and follows up with phone calls when one of my dogs has been seriously ill or had dental surgeries. Disappointing experience with this vet has caused us to look for another one after using her for over two years. While I do believe the vet is accessible when needed which states a lot, her costs have been inflated greatly since we first started. Case in point we were using her pharmacy that delivers when the prescription is due to be renewed. She is hooked up to them and receives a cut of what is ordered, which is the first thing I need to report to the attorney general's office for review. This is not a problem except for when a customer decides not to use this pharmacy, the vet refuses to call that medication into a local pharmacy and dictates that the client needs to pick up a prescription each and every time. We opted to obtain the RX locally due to the increase of RX using her pharmacy that she gets a cut of. As stated, the vet stated that we would have to pick up a new prescription every time because she will not be responsible for mistakes made as a result of an RX being called in and dispensed incorrectly. That all makes sense except that only was the case when we needed the apoquel which is low-level drug whereas our dog is also on phenobarbital and she has no issue whatsoever calling that in. Both drugs- the dog is on for life. It was apparent that the real motivation was forgoing the monthly gain for us using her pharmacy she is tied to. Yesterday, we brought our dog in for shaving around his mouth due to excessive drooling which causes the area to become infected and matted. The vet stated that the area was infected and that she would need to give him a bit of gas to get in there and clip around. First time ever since he has had this in many years that we needed to put him under to clean it. As a nurse myself, the area was not as bad as it had been prior times. What was the charge to snip the area? over 400.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the procedure took less than 25 minutes and we were told it would be done with the smallest amount of gas to prevent him from not allowing her to get in there and clip it. She proceeded to charge us for a bath as well. An extra $119.00 was added to the bill which we asked to be removed and was also discovered by the front staff saying the nurses made a mistake and added something twice. We were asked to pay for the services before viewing them. I refused twice. Finally, after the third time, another front staff person told the woman to print the invoice for us to review first. otherwise, we would have paid for services without reviewing them and noting the 119.00 error. Additionally, a blood panel was done but the vet decided to charge us for the larger panel versus saving 50.00 for a lesser panel. All and all we walked out of there for a visit, clipping around his mouth, a phenobarb level, and a blood panel for over 725.00. This included 2 meds, a mouth balm (23.60) and Simplicef 30 tablets. Her charge, 73.50. Cheweys charges 48.00. Her is my perspective: this vet appears to understand that some of her customers have a few dollars. When that's the case, she goes into overdrive and starts overcharging and adding things to the bill to drive it up as outlined here. There is no reason why this visit should have caused a 700.00+ fee for the visit. I am not certain if the vet thinks we are stupid, or if she wanted to show off to a new vet she brought on service who attended the visit and is possibly selling her business to and needs to inflate what she is making, I am not sure. One thing I do know if our routine visit yesterday covered her payroll for the week. it was a Friday! We are now looking for another vet because more than the 700.00+ visit, I do not feel as if I can trust her. The veterinary clinic is located in Jacksonville and her prices rattle NY. Here is a tip, while I believe in paying for service especially good service, I will not be taken advantage of. My success in life and work acumen does not give you a right to overcharge because you think you can get away with it. Your just not worth it. I just compared prices for the service with two of my neighbors invoices and guess what...my is inflated. You decide but my suggestion would be to look elsewhere. We have just located someone we will interview to be our new vet. read more

No stars!!! DO NOT go to this place! DO NOT!!! Went to get a c-section done by these people. Now mind you, a C-section cost around $800-$900. And at the end of it all, when I went to pick up my dog, this doctor had every reason to Jack this cost all the way up to $2100. Oh and here's the kicker, "the puppies were dead" she says! so I took my dog home and then my dogs guts started hanging out of the csection scar. As long as I've been a breeder I've never experienced anything like this in my life. This dog has had litters before via C-section with no issues with another vet. so, I bring my dog back in to her because shes the one that created this mess and this lady had the nerve to say, without examining the dog, that fixing it will cost $2000. ALL ABOUT MONEY and no care for pets. Who is gonna pay that? you'd think that she would fix it because it was her failure to do it properly . but I knew that they would provide every excuse in the world than just simply saying that they should have stapled her up instead like EVERY OTHER VET DOES! terrible place and terrible vet. nurses are fine but they work there unfortunately so birds of a feather. read more

Dr. Jones has taken care of my 21/2 yo cat since he was 2 weeks old. He is a cranky ass cat, but Dr. Jones just finds him and his curmudgeons ways "adorable"! Wow! My parents were visiting from Michigan and Tommy (cute face beagle) had an issue. They found this place and they were awesome! The vet was honest, thorough, accommodating, thoughtful and she even followed up with a personal call! I am actually considering getting rid of the dreaded Bansfield and supporting local business. Unknowledgable to help my guinea pig. Brought my male guinea pig to see this female vet. She's about 60 years old. Advised her my guinea is not eating much, losing weight, and not excited when we take out food or treats. I even brought her my piggie's poops which were light brown instead of dark brown. All she said was she thinks he's thinking too much about sex than food. She didn't even take the poop for culture or try to get some urine samples. At least then she will know to prescribe him some antibiotics if he has UTI or some intestinal bacteria infection thats causing this. I even told her that my piggie doesn't seem like he wants sex now. He's not interested in anything. She still says separate them for a week and see if he's back to normal so she won't prescribe him antibiotics now cause she really thinks its sex that's hes thinking about. So I listen and separate them for one week, he started having diarrhea last night and was about to schedule him for another appt but he already passed away this morning. I firmly thinks if the vet took our piggies symtoms into consideration and priscribe him antibiotics, he might still be living today. She didn't take the poop for culture or listen to our concerns carefully to diagnose him with the correct illness. I would not recommend this vet to anyone. Or anyone who has guinea pigs. read more

The care is exemplary, AAHA member, and trained at the very best veterinary colleges and programs, and years of experience. They love the animals, and their clients, providing the best care, pet education, and compassion in treating serious illness. I have visited other hospitals with friends and their pets. When they were 3 months old we wanted our kitties declawed. Dr Jones told us about her laser technique and that she is one of the very few who do it in Jacksonville. It causes much less pain for the kitties, as it cauterizes as it goes, therefore no bleeding or need for bandages. Within a month the boys were up to their old tricks but no more ruined furniture. I felt very betrayed by the way the Vet herself acted and spoke. She hurt my dog cutting her nails where the blood was spurting. When I got up to comfort my dog she ORDERED me to sit back down. She said groomers are not trained to expel dog gas, yet she did not do it either. My dog is old and yes she is my world, but to say a bath would kill her. Of course she tried to add on so many different things which I continued to say no to especially after the afore mentioned I was ready to walk. After a quote on the phone of $65 and then the bill was $190 and would have been close to $500 with the added suggestions. Of course as she said she is dying so why not do all these things to her. (not necessarily in that order) She will tell it like it is- to the humans, and recommend the best care options for your fuzzy or other pet family. I can state this, without reservation, because of the first class service provided by Dr. Jones and her staff to both the pet and the pet owner. Her diagnosis have always been made with the highest accuracy and the medical remediation is provided with care and concern for both patient and owner. This personalized service coupled with Dr. Jones continued concern is of paramount quality. When one leaves this pet facility, telephone follow up and medical adjustments to my pet's condition continued to be monitored until this clinic is fully convinced that their further assistance is no longer needed. In my pet ownerships, which span more than half a century, I have never had personalized service that is even remotely close to what is provided by Dr Jones. Dr.Jones is awesome!!! After my 4 month old boxer puppy was diagnosed with 2 different aliments and given 2 different drugs one which pretty much comatosed him and made his mild limp worse. Also a visit to the emergency vet with no help. I found Dr. Jones and went for a second opinion and she did some blood work and xrays and found the problem. With some antibiotics my puppy is doing so much better. Dr.Jones is great and she even said to call her anytime day or night, week day or weekend if I see anything not looking good with my puppy.
