December 23rd 2023 was my last and final appointment at this place. I started coming here after…read moremoving from NJ. The owner Sam is very chill and she did a good job doing my relaxer. After a couple of visits I noticed I would always have to wait. Anywhere from 10-30 min before she worked on my hair. A little annoying given that I made an appointment for a specific time but I shrugged it off because she's a one woman show. Over time I saw she got additional girls working in the shop but the wait still remained...... weird but whatever. The last straw was my final appointment. I don't know if it's the holiday rush getting the best of her or what but I had an appointment for a relaxer touch up at 1:30pm. I parked my car in front of the salon at 1:30pm on the dot and by the time I came inside it was a minute later. The place was packed so I sat in the only chair available and waited...... and waited...... and waited..... and waited....... It was past 2pm at this point when I asked Sam when am I gonna get worked on and she said she has one more lady and then she'll do me. Y'all...... I was in that shop from 1:31pm and my hair wasn't worked on till 3:08pm. I was waiting over an hour and a half. Mind you I was sick. I had a mask on and was hardly talking to minimize potential spreading but my body ached, I was running a fever, and I felt like I was about to pass out being all lightheaded. The girl who rinsed out my hair was hardly getting to the very bottom portion of the back of my head. Even when I told her to please get the lower area she hardly moved the hose to get the spot she needed to hit. And she stayed rinsing only the back of my head for a good five minutes like, boo do you not realize I also have a front of the head too?? There's chemicals sitting in my hair that need rinsing. Why are you taking your sweet time?? Sam eventually jumped in and rinsed it good. After that, I'm in Sam's chair and she starts blow drying and straightening my hair. As she's trimming my ends, she was saying how busy she's been and mentioned the other day she had 20 clients all by herself. I was surprised hearing that and asked if none of the other girls were in that day. Sam said "No they were here but they had clients of their own." So I said "Oh then why 20 clients for you to handle alone?" She said "I got bills to pay this is how I eat. I don't work 9 to 5s like you." So I said back "If you spaced out appointments though what happened today wouldn't happen. I waited over an hour and a half before you finally got to me." And she said "When you're good at what you do, people wait for you. All my clients know to wait for me." Girl this is a bumpkin town and you are one of three salons in the area. That's why people wait. She can do natural hair good. The braiding is another story. But as soon as Sam admitted she over books to her benefit, I knew this was my last visit. If you need money that bad, start raising prices. I have been to salons that charge $120+ for a relaxer and I have no issues paying that amount since they respect my time and are ready for me at the agreed upon appointment time. All Sam said was "oh well I was gonna ask you to show up early in the week but I always see you book on Saturdays" Yes because that's when I'm free to get my hair done! If you don't have time for me that's fine I will reschedule with you no problem. But to make my sick self wait there for over an hour and a half and for her to think that's okay??? That's crazy. The amount of time I waited was longer than the amount of time it took Sam to do my hair. She started with me at 3:08pm and I was out the door by 4:15pm. This visit was it for me. I'm going back to my girls in Jersey I don't care about the drive since I only get relaxers 3-4 times a year. At least out there they respect my time and are ready for me the moment I walk in. Going to Sam, you can't plan anything else the rest of the day cuz you don't know if you're gonna be there for 1 hour or 4 hours. If you're good at what you do, you won't have people waiting almost 2 hours to get their hair done. Hair it iz. Here I go.

Then one day I drove passed Shear Brilliance Salon on 611 and did some research on Google and Facebook. I saw many great reviews so I figured I would give them a call. The woman who answered the phone was extremely nice and made my appointment with Kaci. I am ALWAYS so nervous when it comes to going to new salons and having a new stylist do my hair, but when I walked in I felt very welcomed. Everyone there is so nice and they offer you water or coffee. They always ask if there is anything you need. Now, Kaci is the only stylist I will go to. She's awesome and does exactly what I want to my hair. I am picky, so when there is something I think needs to be fixed, she fixes it no problem! I would definitely recommend this salon! Today I have chemically burned, broken hair that is so dry that it looks and feels like HAY. If I don't immediately get to someone who knows how to treat this kind of damage, I will have NO hair within a few weeks, and I am not exaggerating in the slightest. It breaks if I touch it and there are pieces of broken hair all over my blouse as I write this, along with a lot of tears. Yesterday I went to Salon Evol and was exceptionally clear about what I was looking for. I asked if it was possible to get a body wave or perm so that I could end up with large, wide, bouncy curls, because my hair took a long time to blow out and was frizzy if I let it dry on its own. My schedule is getting busier and I needed something easier and faster. I said I hated "beach hair" and didn't want a messy look; I wanted defined, large curls and to be able to wash my hair and not style it but still have it look nice. Chrissy told me she could do that and that the only thing I might need to do is use a curling iron on some pieces around my face. Then she did the process. When she was finished, my hair resembled a messy FRENCH POODLE. It was skinny, wormy strands of incredibly messy hair and would have been a bad look even for the 80's. There were no real curls at all, just mess, and certainly nothing any person would say looked like a defined curl. I was in shock. I went home and tried to wash it out. Not possible. I ended up going back there today - because I apparently needed more proof that I couldn't trust this person. I feel like an idiot and all I can think of is "Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me." Chrissy told me that my hair would be in great condition if she reversed the process. I let her do the reverse process. And now? My hair is so brittle that just running a brush through it is impossible. The brush fills up with broken, brittle balls of hair with even the lightest stroke. I will now have to find someone who actually knows what they're doing and can treat horribly chemically damaged hair. It will be YEARS before all this damaged hair grows out. I have never been to any hairdresser worse than this woman. I will be paying for years for my mistake and for her ignorance. All she had to do was tell me that what I wanted wasn't possible and I would have thanked her and left. Instead? She decided that she'd rather take my money and ruin my hair than have an empty chair until her next scheduled appointment. I'm an international performer and this will adversely affect my career. I don't want even my husband or close friends to see me like this. My reason for going to get a process in the first place was that my hair took too long to style. NOW?? I will be spending SO MUCH MORE time doing deep conditioning treatments, going to real professionals for their treatments, changing my whole routine and regimen for months and years to come. Why do women do things like this to other women? Is it jealousy? Ignorance? Just for fun? All I can say is NEVER go to Salon Evol and I hope this woman retires or has her license taken away.
