I came to Kimberley for a wedding and had a really tough time finding a hair salon and make up…read moreartist because of the lack of reviews for such places. So I will do my part and review honestly for the next person. Hair - I know what I want and I like loose waves/curls that keep the length of my hair (long and down my back). I asked for this and for my hair to be partially pulled back. The curls ended up being so tight they were shoulder length. I obviously was not happy, so the stylist attempted to pull it down more. It appeared that it helped. Once I left though, and the pictures were being taken, it was back to shoulder length, and only slightly longer in the back. My hair also had so much hairspray in it that it was crunchy and awful-feeling. It was OK, but it was not what I asked for and I was definitely not happy with it. Make-up- I was attending a wedding at noon. I asked for a smoky eye- I like makeup and didn't want it to be just natural. I asked for a step up from natural. I don't even know where to begin. I looked in at the makeup box, and there was hardly anything in it. They had some eye shadow palettes and pencils but the selection was totally lacking. She applied my foundation with her FINGERS. She applied an eyeliner pencil and I have no idea how many other people it had been used on too. I sat there really wishing I had brought my own makeup in, because I had more options than this salon, and at least I know where they've been. I asked for false eyelashes as well, last minute. So this is not really their fault, but they only had one option, Quo eyelashes "that someone left here". They expressed that they didn't really like them because they were straight and were more difficult to put on. They did try to find other ones but they didn't have any and said maybe their daughter had taken them out. There were a few other things during the application she "couldn't find" and had to go looking for. She also said she forgot her setting spray at home. Overall, they didn't seem very prepared for me. The eyelashes ended up looking seamless and she did a good job at this. At the end, I really didn't like my makeup, I found it too dark (and was not asked for my opinion throughout the process). She did lighten it up for me at the end when I asked, which really stressed me out because I started getting tight on time. If I had the time, I probably would have taken it off and done it myself. I was uncomfortable all day because I felt like it was too much and overall not well done. (I am not afraid of make up, I wear it all the time and sometimes a lot of it, so when I say this it is not because I am not use to it). The Salon itself: They opened half an hour early for me which was VERY nice, because otherwise it was getting too close to the wedding and I was afraid I wouldn't be done on time. I really appreciated this. So, for a while I was the only one in the salon as the rest of the staff came in. To sum it up, certain staff in this salon are beyond unprofessional. I would get into details about what was talked about, but a lot of it was very personal. Lets just say if you are up for gossip and TMI about disciplining children and exes and new partners then you will be right at home. Although it was not my artist or stylist that said inappropriate things (they were very friendly), the salon is small, and the conversation between the other workers ending up setting the tone. Bottom line: I do not recommend.
