BHI Contractor Services, Robert Burkett, Owner/Contractor…read more In the remodeling of our Master Bath, we found this company to be very unprofessional (sloppy & in some cases, destructive) in their work and above all, DISHONEST, as follows: - They left their equipment and trash all over the Master Bedroom during the remodel. We had to ask them a couple of times to remove stuff. - The tile guy (Ricky Savage, RS Flooring & Tile) was particularly bad about leaving his equipment (including buckets of liquid) sitting on the floor of the bedroom. Plus, he continually ran back and forth through the main house to use the bathroom, tracking stuff (liquids/mortar, etc.) on our floors. - We had to call attention to problems with the plumbing for the sinks and shower; leaking pipes under the sinks and the water initially would not come out of the shower heads when the water controls were turned on. - We decided to have an existing finished wall extended. When the extension was constructed, the studs lined up with the drywall of the existing wall. They put the drywall up on the extension anyway, which caused a quarter inch projection or jag where the walls met. They were applying caulk to try to cover the jag when we discovered their mistake. Needless to say, we had them tear out the extension and line the walls up properly. - The new toilet we bought and BHI installed was extremely loud & annoying so we decided to replace it. By this time, we were so unsatisfied with Robert's work we had another plumber come in to install the replacement while BHI was not on site. When the plumber removed the newly installed toilet by BHI, he discovered the flange for the toilet was broken, which would eventually have caused leaks onto the finished basement ceiling below. - The design of the remodel required rearranging a portion of the plumbing, which meant removing some of the subflooring. After the subflooring was replaced and new tile was laid, we discovered a very noticeable slope/dip in the floor towards the area where the plumbing changes took place. The tile & subflooring had to be removed to determine the cause. Turns out, when they changed the plumbing around, they loosened the underneath floor joists causing the joists to sag towards the ceiling below. They had to stabilize the joists to correct the problem. - We had BHI buy & install a new ceiling fan as the existing one was not an adequate size for the bathroom, plus it had a rattling shrill sound to it. The contract specified an upgraded fan and was a brand that Lowe's had available. This particular fan looked exactly like a much cheaper fan (& a match to the one we were replacing). After the new fan was installed, it sounded like the old one and looked like it too, but Robert assured us it was the more expensive one we wanted (about $100 more). However, because it was just so similar and sounded so much like our old one, we decided to check the model numbers against the ones at Lowe's where they had purchased it. The cheaper model was the one installed by Robert. At the time, we gave them the benefit of the doubt since the two were almost identical in looks (could have pulled the wrong one off the shelf). We bought the one we wanted and had them replace the one they had installed. - Our contract with Robert specified Pella as replacements for our existing windows. When the new windows were delivered, there were no markings anywhere on the windows which raised red flags. One of the ways most window brands advertise is by putting stickers all over their windows. We ask Robert if they were in fact Pella Windows. He assured us they were. Since we had the problem with the ceiling fan, we ask for a copy of the purchase invoice for the windows so we could complete our records for the bathroom fixtures. (We had purchased all the other fixtures, cabinets, etc., except the fan and windows.) The copy of the invoice Robert emailed us was very hard to read. You could not tell the brand of window or if there was any brand specified. However, we were able to determine the vendor. When we contacted the vendor, they gave us a copy of the original order. The windows were not Pella, they were another brand which was about $1,000 less than the Pella windows stated in the contract. We deducted the difference in the cost of the windows from the final payment, telling Robert why and that if he had any questions, we would all sit down with our lawyer to discuss the matter. We have not heard from him since. Bottom line, we would not recommend BHI, Robert Burkett, to build anything. Their work is unprofessional and, above all, Robert Burkett is dishonest. He will cheat you if he can.
