There is such a condensed variety of foods here. I found a lot of what was being sold fairly reasonable or cheap, but it was really cool just seeing the market in action. It's not a place just to go sightseeing, however. I can't stress how packed it is and you can easily lose your group if you blink. It should also be noted to keep your bags and valuables close to you, I imagine this would be a good place to pick-pocket. While I don't know of any reports related off the top of my head, I just believe it'd be better safe than sorry since it's a practical sensory overload being in the thick of it. In a nutshell, it's gritty and people aren't overly friendly, but they're there and it's an interesting place to explore. If I was a local, I might not venture here a lot, but every once and awhile it would seem like a good place to find a deal.

Kuya Larry's taho is made fresh every morning and sells it street by street in our village. With the original vendor being his father and passed onto him, they already know the preferences of most of the villagers - less sugar syrup (arnibal), more tapioca balls (sago or bobba), or plain taho for some. He has serving sizes priced at PhP 10 for a small cup and PhP 20, but if you give your own mug or bowl, he even adds a few scopps more. Sometimes, we get even PhP 5 worth of taho for our bowl, and it seems like it should be worth PhP 10. We also pre-order soy milk sometimes which only costs PhP 100 for 1.5 litres or more if we give our own containers. In this way, we don't just get healthy, we also save the earth by reducing use of plastic.

Everything was fresh, portions were generous, and nothing broke the bank--most stuff under 250 pesos. The sunset view over the open space was stunning, super chill vibe with music playing, and parking was a breeze with tons of free spots. Thankfully, the food trucks are here to stay until the 13th of December - which is a good compromise! I still wish for it to be a permanent fixture so we have something going on in McKinley! When I did a quick tour of the area, the food sold at the festival didn't go over P250. That's pretty reasonable and more reasons to pig out! There's a variety of food selection from burgers, gelato, Filipino, Mediterranean, American and street food. Recently, there's an addition of Japanese and Mexican food trucks! Seriously though, I only come here for the gelato by Mio Gelati (P100 for a premium cup) but I always end up getting more than what I came for. I'd have Lamb Biryani from Shawarma Bros (P199), Bacon Cheese Burger from Malcolm's Deli (P150) and Chili Garlic Wings from Bag Wings to name a few. There are live performances as well (although I've never actually seen one). I make sure to come here as soon as it opens because the view is absolutely beautiful. Since McKinley West hasn't started most of the construction in the area, there's so much free space! You also have a view of the Essensa Towers as the sun sets. Parking is far easy as well! If you're game enough to brave wayward jeepneys, daring pedicab maneuverings, and the occasional wet sidewalk, then this is the place for you. It's all worth it, though, if you're a true-blue bargain hunter. Starting from the Baclaran church, just follow the overhead train tracks and you'll find cheap clothes, shoes and bags, industrial supplies, beauty supplies, cleaning supplies, party supplies, fish and meats, fruits and vegetables, cheap electronics, furniture, toys, gift items, it goes on! It's like being at the mall only without the aircon and product branding. It makes me think of Chatuchak, but without the organization. Sometimes, it's more fun that way, though! And if you get hungry while shopping, there's no shortage of street food vendors to satisfy you - from fresh coconut juice and sago-gulaman, to roasted peanuts and barbecue, and many more. I used to be a mall-hound, but Baclaran has changed me. I recommend even just a stroll through here (in clothes you don't mind getting dirty) if you want to see a different side of modern Manila. My family and I have been shopping here since we moved to Parañaque and it's become a comfortable activity. I've never actually felt threatened here (but of course it never hurts to be aware of one's surroundings anywhere you go). The stretch of stalls and shops challenge me to stay alert and sharp as I'm constantly bombarded with smells, sounds, and motion. It's a happy chaos that I think I can only find in Manila.

From the first time I saw him, I knew I wanted to patronize him. I didn't even know yet how the mami tasted, but I knew it must be good from the several tricycle drivers waiting to get a bowl. Seeing customers that are willing to wait is always a good sign. He has a certain grace, a fluidity in his movements in crafting the low-key, street-side mami - dipping the noodles into the broth, sanitizing the bowl and spoon, loading the noodles, red sauce, the thinly-sliced meat, onion leeks, and garlic into the bowl pouring the steaming hot broth, and finally lifting it onto the makeshift counter to serve. The mami is simple, honest, and tasty; don't get me wrong. But I think it's the whole experience of seeing him at work, making the best out of what he has, and making a decent living, while serving good food that makes him and the mami memorable and worth going back to. I don't know his name nor his story. What I know is that he is persevering and dedicated, just as all of us should be.

They're so good they were awarded the Tastiest Regional Specialty for Asia. Regulars such as Mio Gelati are also present here. The vibe is more picnic as opposed to food fair. Settled in a park with grassy areas to sit on, feel free to bring you banigs or sarongs when you're out with a group of friends. It may be loud, but it's definitely a fun place to hangout and eat.

Out of all the places to get barbecue none are for me, as great as Joey's barbecue. I've been going here since I was a kid. In fact, their barbecue is the standard by which I measure all other barbecues. I think I've said that before about one other barbecue, but this one is my other real standard. If a barbecue doesn't taste as well or juicy as Joey's then it's definitely below great. It may be good, but it will never be great. The best way to eat their barbecue is to get it fresh off the grill. If you're lucky then there are a few ones just fresh off, if not then I strongly recommend that you ask yours to be heated again just so you can understand what I'm talking about. Their barbecue is soft on my gums and teeth. The sauce is sweet to my nose and taste buds. When fresh off the grill, the barbecue has this sort of caramelized texture to it something I rarely see in other barbecues. They have other stuff to offer, but really it's the barbecue you want. It's about P17 each, but I often go there with a P100 bill and leave with nothing left in my pocket.

So we decided to check it out and it has been one of our favorite hang out places ever since. There was nothing very special about the trunk sale; most the items being sold were the usual things you'd see in a bazaar, and some second-hand items. But one time we found some really interesting, Amazon-level finds. The sellers change from time to time so it's best to just check it out. The food bazaar has merits. It's not as big as your Mercato or Salcedo market, but it's good enough for food trips. They sell various street foods and native delicacies. Hubby likes buying the all-meat Vigan Empanada, while I keep coming back for the super cheesy nachos (100 pesos for a big plate!) and fresh dalandan juice. If you're into pre-loved goods and food trips, drop by the Evia parking lot. They're there every weekend.
