They have $22 carafes of rum punch as well as flavored mimosas . Where else can you get a jerk chicken or oxtail pizza ? We tore that pizza and Mac and cheese up! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive and wearing masks. There's also hand sanitizer on each table. The food came out quick and was giving me life. Super cute casual sit down bar type restaurant with decent selection and good food. The oxtail pizza was made using a brick oven. I was worried the meat would be too gamey since oxtail is a really strong flavor but it was not at all. Perfectly balanced and they didn't skimp on any ingredients. The jerk chicken was spicer than anticipated. The chicken was very tender. The Brussels with trout were a great combination. The Brussels were well seasoned with a slight lemony taste. After a less than stellar incident at Caribbean Social, my best friend and I found ourselves at Mangoseed for Sunday afternoon brunch. We were pretty late for brunch and it was a cold day. After being turned away at Caribbean Social, we just wanted to eat and enjoy ourselves. When we arrived, the place was packed, even by the bar. The DJ was playing some wicked soca tunes and the crowd seemed to be having a great time. The host instantly greeted us and advised us that the wait wouldn't be too long. Within 10 minutes, he had a table for us in the heated back area (1000 points!). We sat down and ordered a round of mimosas, I had the mango and my best friend had the guava. The mimosa's were soooooooo darn good; I drank it so fast, almost as if it was Hi-C fruit punch on a hot day. My best friend enjoyed hers so much that she ended up ordering a carafe to enjoy. Now onto food - we both had the jerk salmon and waffles. Firstly, very unique and perfect take on a southern dish within a dominantly west-indian community; that tells me they are serious about standing out. Genius, in fact! The salmon was amazing. It was prepared grilled, perfectly seasoned with a dry jerk rub and topped with a fruit compote. On top of the waffles was also a dollop of whipped cream (1000 points more!). I left that table wanting another entree afterwards lol. They ran out of a few items when we got there so, my guess is that the earlier you plan to dine, the better. Service was great and attentive. Staff are very friendly and personable. The location is somewhat small but the back area makes up for it as it adds more dimension and a sense of beauty as the light shines thru. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the food and service. The food is alright. It isn't bad but it's nothing that has blown me away. Their selection of rum and liquor from across the Caribbean was impressive. The vibe is cool but it's so narrow and small in there. The staff is polite. For the music, vibe and service it's a yes. For the food I would say don't kill yourself to get there. First, we stood around for a few minutes without being greeted. We had to approach to tell them we had a reservation; our entire party wasn't there so we were told to wait. Not at the bar, just standing. Then, the menu was limited for brunch, wish worked in our favor since we were going for the chicken and waffles but damn. I think the worst part was the issue with the drinks. We were told the bottomless drinks were for the table, the waiter messed up because the bottomless was actually per person. Again, fine if that was stated in the beginning. We asked to speak to a supervisor because this was a big mistake to make. I think every order was $45 maybe, on top of our food. We were given an apology but told the bill stands. We thanked them, paid, tipped and left. We didn't go back because the bill jumped $150 and we were a table of educated women being gaslit into thinking we misunderstood.... after they apologized and admitted the mistake It's been some time, so I may try again. read more

I think I've slept on Mangoseed. I first came in 2014 and didn't enjoy the 3 sides I threw together for an entree to make up for the lack of vegetarian options. I also found it pricey for what I was getting. That said, I've returned twice since and the winner here is happy hour. It's low key and has a nice vibe. So I've only been for brunch and every time it is packed! They do not take reservations and it is first come first serve. If you don't get there early be prepared to wait (or just go to Zurilee - it's sister restaurant). The ambiance is pretty cool. I love how the intimate restaurant opens up into the street. For brunch there is a live DJ that really knows how to set the mood. And the servers, hostess, and bartenders always deliver great service. Since there was only an hour left of brunch we ordered two pitchers of mimosas; mango and passion fruit. The pitchers aren't that big; 5/6 glasses per pitcher. Bottomless mimosas is $22 per person with a time limit of 2 hrs. I ordered the jerk chicken and waffles. They were both good... just not together. The chicken is perfectly seasoned and tender. The waffle (just a semi-circle) was perfect; neither heavy nor light. The fruit compote (banana) tastes good with both the waffle and jerk chicken. I have very mixed feelings about Magoseed. I absolutely love the service, but for some reason everything I eat from there is so damn spicy. How do you have only jerk wings and no bbq chicken? the fish taco is SPICY (fire hose required). The only thing NOT spicy is the baked macaroni pie. That I must say is great and motherwatering not peppered up. Everything else requires TUMS or MILK to sooth the burning you will get from heart burn. I have never had heart burn so bad in my 39 years of living. I think I will stick with their sister restaurant ZuriLee Restaurant 2 doors down. NOW they have great service, pizza and drinks. CONS: 1. I went here on a date as I was looking for somewhere close by in East Flatbush. To be completely honest, if I were to do it again, I probably would not have chosen this place for a first date as the music was pounding from the minute we walked in the door. When it came time to order, I wanted the jerk chicken with rice, but apparently they were out of the rice and peas (I'm not sure how!?) and the waiter recommended the jerk salad again. I've been for brunch on Sunday twice now and I'm now officially a fan of salmon with waffles. At first I was thinking....wtf...the disrespect lol (as a non-Caribbean and chicken and waffles enthusiast)...but mangoseed has officially turned me OWWTT . I've had their fish and grits, oxtails and grits, and the salmon and waffles. All of which were the BOMB and hefty portion. Unlimited mimosas for $22 from open to 2:30pm (1.5hr max). Or if that's too much, you can always opt for their rum punch that comes in single serving or a glass (just be prepared to swerve either way lol, it's strong). Their music sets a good vibe (DJs on Sunday's with a good mix of reggae and hip hop). Wow, I was looking at some of my past reviews and came across my original one from 2010. I am dismayed that I never updated it. I have long since moved away from Brooklyn in 2015, but about a year after my previous review, I gave them another try. They had redone their menu, moving away from the salmon theme into more of a Caribbean/soul food theme. I became a regular as it was within walking distance from my apartment, eating there all the time, particularly for brunch. I would mostly sit at the bar, being served by La La, who even though I'm so bad with names, I remembered her name because of her good vibe. This place will always be one of my favorite spots there in my old hood. This is one of the first nice restaurants to come into this part of Flatbush back in the days and glad to see they're still in business and have good reviews. I'm not surprised. Mangoseed is a restaurant that I have grown to love during COVID however, the last couple of times that I have placed an order on Uber eats they have consistently let me down. It's surprising to me when I come across a restaurant in NYC with no vegetarian entrees but nevertheless I tried to create one by piecing together some sides. Mac and cheese with a side of market vegetables which, at the time, meant broccoli or sauteed spinach. The mac and cheese was just ok as was the spinach. Wanted to find a black owned brunch spot and found this gem in the neighborhood through Yelp. I had a mango margarita which was sooo good. Not too strong, not too weak...a perfect balance. I tried the Jerk Salmon and waffles because I never had it before and the bartender (I sat at the bar) said it was one of her favs so I trusted the opinion. It was really good. 3.5 stars I came here last night with my amigas after hearing great things from different sources. I love their happy hour prices and happy hour drink selection. Friday's happy hour is from 4-7 so we arrived a little before 6. My sister got something similar to a Bahama Mama which wasn't on the happy hour menu and clocked in at $12. My $5 mango sangria tasted okay, compared to my sister's, which is probably why it's on the happy hour menu lol. Not the best I've ever had. I also had the Sorrel margarita at 5 bucks which was slightly better and tastier than the sangria. When my friend arrived to join us, we ordered our meals and she got the Flatbush wings and a side order of plantains. She thought everything was "okay." I got the grilled chicken pasta (with alfredo sauce) at $17 which was very tasty and cooked well but the alfredo sauce was too cheesy. The chicken was tasty but reminded my friend of tuna when she tasted it. It was a good portion size. My sister got the fried fish and french fries which when I tasted, tasted good. Overall, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the meals and drinks were good. Nothing spectacular or particularly memorable. The vibes and ambiance are really nice and they play good music. I've had this place bookmarked for a few months so I was excited that babe agreed to do brunch with me. We decided to take the train into Brooklyn because it was a beautiful day and we wanted to turn up. We were greeted by the hostess who sat us within five minutes. Not too long after we were aporoached by a young bubbly girl who told us the specials for the Sunday Brunch Fare and the different flavors for the mimosa special. We ordered Guava and Mango Mimosas to start. For brunch we had The MangoSeed Burger along with the Chicken and Belgium Waffle. My burger was just okay. The brioche and turkey bacon were the highlight. The patty was flavorless and relied too heavily on the cheddar cheese, caramelized onions and chipotle mayo. The side salad that came with my burger was not enjoyable because of the citrus vinaigrette that they used to coat the lettuce. Babe enjoyed his meal, but I thought the chicken was just okay. Perhaps if it was bone in it would've been juicer. At least five different people served us which was mind boggling because I was unsure whom to leave the tip for. So a friend suggested that we come here to dine as she treated myself and another friend for our birthdays which recently passed. I checked in on Yelp and noticed that complimentary shots were being offered but I don't drink so that didn't help me at all. The menu selections was very limited so I decided to choose the Jerk Chicken, rice and peas with plantains. My friends chose the same dish, pasta with Jerk Salmon. We chatted while we waited for our food to arrive but sometimes it was hard to hear because of where we were seated and although the speaker was elevated, it seemed as if it was right next to us. We enjoyed the music selections though. Finally the food arrived and its presentation was very nice. I'm big on how chefs plate the food and make it a piece of art. The rice and peas was so good and especially the sweet plantains which was exactly how I like it. Now for the jerk chicken, it was so AMAZINGLY GOOD. The best jerk chicken that I've tasted thus far. I will definitely be back for some more in the future. I asked for more water which our server did bring BUT when I went to drink some water, it was room temperature. I was doing some errands in the Flatbush / Prospect Park area after work one day. So this was a perfect excuse to get some Caribbean food. I tried two dishes, jerk chicken with rice and plantain $14 and the jerk salmon $23. Both of the dishes were jerked the right way (in a very non gutter way). Perfect mix of flavors and decent portion size. I did enjoy the chicken dish more, but the salmon was just as tasty. Do not let the unassuming facade of the building fool you. This place is absolutely awesome as far as food & drink go. After ice skating in Prospect Park, my friends and I were looking for a place to eat when we stumbled upon this place. Thank goodness we did. Before I continue, please note that our group included Americans, West Indians, and Hispanic folk. None of them had any complaints on the food or drink. We walked in on a Saturday night with no reservations unfortunately, so a 30 minute wait was not unexpected. There isn't much room to wait in the front of the restaurant so we kind of squeezed into the bar area. The hostess and bartenders were so genuinely nice. They wore all black with Mango Seed T-shirts and I liked that. It made them easy to spot. Drinks were made and delivered quickly while I watched basketball on the flat screens behind the bar (I think I'm coming back during NFL season to see what's up). When our table was ready, we were escorted towards the back of the restaurant where a portion of the backyard of the restaurant was covered and heated. We didn't mind that, but be aware that if someone steps out to the uncovered portion of the backyard, through the rear door, a significant portion of heat is lost through that door. Not a big deal, but if you're cold blooded, don't sit back there during the cold weather months. Anyways, back to the food... Jerk chicken, Jerk Salmon... Jerk anything was GREAT! We ordered wings for the table and they were amazing. The pairings of all the dishes (e.g. Maduros, Rigatoni etc.) were all spot on. I was with seasoned vets as far as West Indian food goes and none had any serious complaints (The Jamaican in my crew would've liked the jerk seasoning to be spicier/hotter but I feel that it was just the right amount of heat to satisfy West Indian and non-West Indian tastes). Bottom Line: Go! Whenever you get the chance, go eat. Just make sure to make a reservation and if you're driving, get there early, because the street parking is a little bit tough out there. read more

I got the Mai Tai and it was pretty delicious. The drinks were definitely well made and plenty strong. The prices here aren't cheap but not exorbitant. There were a couple groups of people eating in the back that seemed to be having a great time. I really want to give this place 4 stars because I really did enjoy my drink and the bartenders were very friendly. However, the music was just so loud that it was uncomfortable for my ears and we had to leave after one drink. If they could turn down the volume just a tad, I would definitely come back. read more
