So I went to this spot for happy hour. The time we went was 5pm when it opens and we knew we were going to be gone before karaoke began at 7:30. We were wrong. PICH is a restaurant & lounge that have different events throughout the week such as karaoke, game night, taco Tuesday and movie night in the summer. The place is cool. The food however was not great; rice wasn't freshly made, they didn't have a few options (as a lot of Caribbean restaurants). I ordered the Trini style callaloo which is supposed to come with white jasmine rice & plantains. The white rice was not available so we had to get rice and peas. The reason why they got 3 stars is bcuz of MJ (the bartender & host). MJ is friendly, personable, and was involved with karaoke. She made it fun!! MJ was great. So disappointed. Came here for dinner today and the food was cold - like why???? Then the food came out before the drinks. No water when we sat down- I had to pull a bottle of water out of my bag. I'm honestly speechless about my experience at PiCH -- thankful my fingers still work so I can warn others. As a Jamaican, I felt embarrassed that this is what they're serving in the name of our food. This was easily one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had, and I even had to apologize to my husband for bringing him there. It was clear authentic Jamaican cooking is not a priority at this spot. Our waitress was wonderful and did her best to keep us comfortable, but the food and drinks were unacceptable. We started with margaritas, but the bartender clearly didn't know how to make them -- using cheap tequila that tasted awful. My rice and peas were burnt and scraped from the bottom of the pot, old and stale, and my meat was dry and tough, like it had been sitting around for days. My husband tried cutting his with a fork and gave up because it was too hard, and his food was so salty it was inedible. I've seen all the glowing reviews, but maybe it was just a bad Thursday. Still, that's no excuse. If they were out of oxtail, they should've just been honest instead of serving us old scraps. We spent $150 and barely ate two bites. About 5 mins after getting seated, the waitress comes to inform us that she needs to move us to another table as she forgot that she was saving that table for a reservation. We opted for the bottomless drinks. Each person gets a carafe and you can each choose a different drink. For the entree, I got the chicken and waffles. Chicken was crispy but the drumstick was dry. Service was extremely slow, we had to flag her down to get our 2nd round of the drinks and she never refilled our waters. She actually never came back after the 2nd round of drinks. We waited a long time to get the check and had to flag down another waiter just to pay. Music was too loud making it hard to have a conversation. October 2022 and one month old PiCH is a beauty. Clean lines in shades of grey, exposed brick behind the bar. Little perfume like flower holders on each table, really really nice. As we left Flatbush and walked in we could smell the newness of the place, (a smell I absolutely take pleasure in). We were immediately sat and as it was a low-key Tuesday evening, we were given the opportunity to choose a table we preferred. We inquired about events and was graciously shown around by one of the owners a Black Woman! Yes! Downstairs can be accessed through the restaurant or another private door from outside which I'm sure those hosting private events will appreciate. In the "basement" there's also a bar and a music set up for DJs. This space is on the smaller side but nice and new just like upstairs. I envision small parties or dinners being held there. We thanked the owner and made our way back up to the main dinning room. There's a cozy completely private backyard but it was a rainy evening so we missed the opportunity to enjoy it. DRINKS: We requested a taste of their rum punch and Dominique our Server was happy to accommodate as she presented our taste in two shot glasses. I'm not a fan of rum but I liked it. My friend the rum connoisseur loved it and went with that for her beverage. It really didn't disappoint. But listen, if you're pushing Caribbean taste you better be able to make some RUM PUNCH! As a whiskey lover I was intrigued by "The Forbidden Apple" which consisted of apple whiskey, cinnamon syrup, ANGOSTORA BITTERS (all caps because that's from my Island T&T haha), pineapple and orange juice. No biggie, I figured people were getting off work, and it would change quickly, did. We ordered various things, including Salmon dishes, baked mac and cheese, salmon bites, and more. But before we get to that, their chat about a few different things. STAFF/SERVICE: We came inlet'svarious, and the hostess was, accommodating in putting us at our table. We sat down very quickly, and shortly after, our waitress came over to help us. That was the most that she did, unfortunately. We ordered a couple of apps that we wanted to be delivered with the entrees too, which didn't happen. It took more than 45 min to get two drinks during happy hour when there d two other tables and four bartenders behind the bar. When we finally got them, we knew that there would be a wait based on the previous were us delay minutes, and we ordered another set of drinks for HH and were again given 45-60 min later. I love that this place opened in a part of town where only a few new businesses are constantly opening. Nevertheless, I was disappointed when I learned this was simply a facade to the back of the house. There appears to be a curtain wherein it is part office space but never closed, so you see right in and giving mixed up mess. I needed to use the bathroom (gross), and the door would barely lock; the handle was weak enough that if somebody pulled hard on it, they would probably be able to open it. They have no paper towels, which may be to cut costs, but I would only touch something in that bathroom with a proper cover. I've been to Pich on multiple occasions. I love a neighborhood gem where you can get good food, drinks and a vibe. They offer a bottomless brunch where you can switch between flavors. The food is amazing but the service is subpar. We had to constantly wait to speak to waitstaff to order. Once our orders were in, the food took extremely long. The entrees didn't come out together. One friend waited 45 minutes for mac and cheese. The place is beautiful but I won't be back. I'll just order online for delivery to my home. The bartender was not very attentive. Wait several minutes for her to acknowledge me, several minutes for her to take my order and then several minutes to give me my change. She didn't give me the correct change and I just couldn't even bother to tell her that I was short my change. I feel bad because our party came to celebrate my friend's birthday and this establishment did not make her birthday memorable for the right reasons. What I do appreciate is the owner listing to my concerns and vowing to do better. I told him I may give the restaurant another chance since it's literally five minutes from my home. read more
