After a few days in the city together, my friend and I stopped in for breakfast before parting ways. The vibe was cozy, relaxed, and welcoming, exactly what you want from a local coffee shop. The giant windows lend a ton of natural light, especially for place that almost needs to wait until midday for some sunshine. The bagels absolutely hit the spot: fresh, satisfying, and exactly what we needed. Nothing overly complicated, just solid, well-executed breakfast. They have pastries and sandwiches, as well, but your girl needed a real New York bagel before this trip was through. What really stood out for me, though, was the hot cider on special. It was warm, spiced just right, and comforting for a November morning. I could easily see this shop as a regular go-to of mine if I lived in the neighborhood. read more

Rise n shine Harlem. This spot has been hot for a solid decade. Their coffee is always so good and consistent. I actually don't think I've ever had a bad cup. I will say the latte is milky though so if you're not big on coffee taste it's probably the better drink to go for but their cappuccino is perfection. read more

Okay, so this review is about the cutest little coffee shop in Harlem: Built Coffee. My cousin frequents this place all the time to do her work or just get out of the house, and even though she's not a big coffee drinker, she has been raving about their chai for the longest. And listen... I am a chai queen, so when someone tells me a chai is worth trying, I'm going. She kept telling me, "You're going to love this chai." She orders hers with oat milk and extra cinnamon on top, so that's exactly what I got -- and when I tell you this was one of the best chai lattes I have ever had in my entire chai-drinking life? Silky. Smooth. Perfectly spiced. Just the right amount of warmth. Just... everything. Truly a great chai. The shop itself has such a good vibe. It's not huge, but the space is cozy in the best way. If you don't mind communal seating, it's perfect for settling in with your laptop or a book. They have outlets, the ambiance is chill, and it's one of those spots where you can really get work done while still feeling comfy. I haven't tried their pastries yet, but the atmosphere and that chai alone keep me coming back. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and that's something I really appreciate -- it makes the whole experience feel even better. This local coffee shop often becomes one of the most crowded because it actually has working space, local vibes, and a very decent selection of food and drink options for its relative size. Recently new vegan breakfast sandwich options were added for plant based proteins, and the nitro cold brew currently on tap is perfectly creamy as a black cold brew. The only downside is sometimes it's so popular you can't get a seat. Maybe it's a good sign that Manhattanville can open even more locations nearby! read more

Described as "energizing, sweet, and floral" on the menu, The Iced Honey Lavender Latte was exactly that. You can tell the barista knew what she was doing. I enjoyed how the honey and lavender complimented one another well, the lavender was noticeable in every sip, and was well balanced by the strong espresso. Dairy replacement and customer service is selective at this location. Ordered and paid for a latte with oat milk and the barista tries to give me a latte made with whole milk. I watched them make the drink, when I said that my order was with oat milk, he shrugged his shoulders and says "we're out" doesn't offer any alternatives so I get my refund. Someone else comes in after me, orders a drink with oat milk and guess what the barista did, went into the back and brought out a new carton of oat milk! read more

Stopped here midday on a rainy afternoon to grab a latte and check out the space. It's pretty intimate but had a decent amount of seating and there were a lot of people working. Ordered a hot honey lavender latte and it was pretty solid. I got it light sweet and it was still pretty sweet so just something to keep in mind if you're someone that prefers less sweet drinks. This is one of the coziest NYC coffeeshops I've ever been in. They had a lot of cushy couches as well as large communal table in the middle. Although I was here on a Tuesday afternoon it was pretty crowded. So I imagine it'd be difficult to find seats on weekends. They had great music playing and it was perfect for getting work done. Bonus points for speedy WiFi, lots of outlets, and a bathroom! Their latte was wonderfully creamy, with no bitter aftertaste. During these apocalyptic COVID times, I sometimes feel the urge to work somewhere outside my apartment from time to time to maintain my sanity. I use this and my flexibility as a remote worker as an excuse to explore coffee shops! I'm new to NYC and am in the process of discovering my favorite coffee shops to work at. I'm so glad that I began my search at Manhattanville Coffee! The interior is spacious and has plenty of seating and outlets (!!!) as well as pretty good wifi! They don't have a time limit for how long you can stay too -- but it's always good to get up every couple hours and order something if you plan to stay all day to help support the business and keep your tummy happy Their coffee is delicious too! I had an iced americano and my boyfriend had a latte both of which were amazing and very reasonably priced! We also got some food - a toasted chicken wrap and a toasted chocolate croissant which were both perfect and delicious! The best part of the experience for me though was the staff -- they were super kind and welcoming, offered to toast my croissant, and also put the effort to learning and calling out my actual name (Piyali) rather than the Starbucks name I originally gave them (Lily) which made me feel so special and respected! Coffee is good. Ordered the iced latte with oat milk a couple times. Only came here whenever I was in the neighborhood, otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Location is a bit far and isolated. It's definitely an aesthetic atmosphere, but I'm not a big fan of the prices as well as my recent experience here. The barista who made my drink seemed to prioritize picking up some trash off the floor behind the counter. She then used the same gloves to make my drink. Who knows if the dirt and dust from the floor made it into my iced latte. I didn't want to be the annoying customer who always complains, but I'm getting more aggravated just thinking about how she made me wait and didn't change her gloves after touching the floor and garbage can. read more

This place is pretty small so, when we went it was already packed and we couldn't get a place to sit. The staff was very nice. I was told that their lavender honey iced coffee is popular so I ordered that and my friend ordered a vanilla iced coffee. I LOVED the lavender honey iced coffee. It had the right amount of sweetness and flavor. I will definitely be going again for that!! However, the vanilla iced coffee wasn't that great. I adored this coffee shop. Harlem really has some wonderful coffee shops that offer good wifi, great places to study, good latte art, good pastries, and just good ambience. Apparently this place gets really crowded [I can see why!] and I came during a quiet time. They have power outlets that are under the table surface; there are no obvious power outlets on the wall, so I felt like this was necessary to tell people. And the strip has a lot of plugs, which is excellent. I ordered a matcha latte with almond milk and a chocolate croissant, which the guy had no problem warming up for me. They both tasted delicious. The place was nice and toasty, which was perfect for a negative ten degree day. It has great natural light due to the plethora of windows. We found seats!! Two stools in the window! So lucky us. Vibe: crowded but quiet on the warmest Sunday of any January in New York City. Studying and writing going on in many seats. And that one guy with his charging adapter stretched across the floor from his chair at the community table to the wall outlet so you have to watch your step because you nearly tripped and cost him his thesis. I would have sworn that I wrote a review for this place the last time I came here over a year ago but oh well it's worth the trip if your in the area and I seem to get lucky with parking since it's right off the side road there on Edgecombe, it's pretty large in size and this time it was very quiet which I like at 7am, the quiche is good here (though it is microwaved) it's still tasty as well as the almond croissants and with the more frequent coffee shop stops along my way this is definitely top ranked so far. read more
