Came here after work and had a good experience. My friend lives by and has always wanted to visit so we finally did. We each sampled a few wines and everything tasted yummy. I'm not a wine person generally speaking so I can't speak on how good the wine was, but I didn't dislike anything that I had, so that's a good sign! Service was friendly and consistent. Overall, had a positive experience. read more

My friend saw this place as a recommend place for hot chocolate so we decided to stop by on a Thursday night. The place itself is super cute and very cozy. The menu is fairly on the basic side - mainly drinks and pastries and there is some sandwiches. We decided to get the hot chocolate with whip cream (the whip cream is very needed). It was very rich, thick and delicious and not "too sweet." The whip cream really makes it more creamy and it does not really add to the sweetness which was good. We also got a side of Salame e Formaggio which I would recommend passing on because the cheese was kind of hard and not that great. The salami was good and honestly I'm not a fan of olives but my friend who liked it enjoyed them. Overall - a cute place to stop by for a hot chocolate and maybe a pastry! read more

While the space is *so* cute and cozy and the service was really nice, the food and beverages left something to be desired. We got a torta caprese (flourless chocolate cake), a sfogliatella, a hot chocolate, and a machiatto. The torta caprese was okay. The sfogliatella, which is supposed to be light and crisp, was clearly stale and chewy, although they warmed it up which was a helpful touch. The hot chocolate was reviewed on Instagram as being super rich and decadent, but it was made from a mix that smelled oddly similar to Swiss Miss. the machiatto was also quite watery. La Bomboniera was an accidental stumble upon one morning. I'm a sucker for trying new cafes but this place is also a wine bar. It's a bit too fancy for me with that trendy European style. The morning I visited there wasn't much of a pastry selection. I thought the coffee price was reasonable. Customer service was excellent and there's plenty of seating inside and outside. I'm not going to return alone. I do think it's a good place to bring friends and family from out of town. Hopefully they'll cover the tab! If you enjoy museums you are very close to museum mile and Central Park too. I'm recommending if this is your style atmosphere. read more

Nothing special about this place. Overpriced, poor drink quality, and seating is crowded. The coffee is average at best. The espresso martini tasted like the bartender needs to learn how to properly mix a drink. If you want a real italian cafe experience, this is not it. read more

Good spot right near the subway. It's clean, a little busy but the server was attentive. The star here is the hot chocolate, tasty served piping hot. I didn't think I would like the whipped cream but it was delicious. It's casual but a great place for a morning beverage. I wish they baked their own goods but the hot chocolate more than makes up for that. read more

This place is very popular. I went on a Monday around 2pm and every seat in the house was taken. The turnover for a table is quick, and I was seated within a few minutes. I had a cappuccino and a slice of Italian ricotta cheesecake, my boyfriend had a Nutella cream bomboloni and a latte. We were both happy. This is a cute place to try in the UES. read more

This is a really cute coffee/wine place with a lot of seating. We came as a party of 3 in the morning and decided to dine in. We tried their pastries, affogato, coffee and tea. While the drinks were good, the pastries were not fresh, pretty hard and we didn't really like them. I got a plain croissant and my sister got the almond and we both had the same opinion. Unfortunate because we really wanted to like this place. They also offer sandwiches and other refreshments. You can even work from here but limit laptop usage to about an hour. read more

Absolutely loved this cafe! After having a long day exploring the upper east side, we were looking for a nice place to have coffee and relax. This was the perfect spot - ambiance, service and coffee everything were spot on. The cafe is maintained very nicely, no clutter and super clean. Love the chic atmosphere and the European feeling. There were many people working from this cafe. Both espresso and macchiato were not too strong for my taste bud, as well so smooth. Came here based off all the reels and ads I've been seeing, and was disappointed. Service is wonderful and the space is nicely decorated, but the hot chocolate with creme is just SwissMiss. Great cappuccino and well priced. Not worth the 30 min on the uptown 6 for the cocoa. read more

Food: this place is a hidden gem in UES. Im particular with my coffee but i ordered iced almond latte and i was very impressed. I will probably come in for coffees at this place going forward- better than Madame Bonte or other coffee shops in UES Service: overall good service but nothing particular Ambiance: really nice decor and makes you feel like you are in an European type of cafe. La Bomboniera is one of my favorite neighborhood coffee shops. It's cozy and the staff are so friendly. It's a great place to go for a quick pick me up or to meet up with a friend. The lattes are great and the doughnuts are even better, especially the one filled with Nutella! It arrived warm and really hit the spot. Dropped by for a coffee so can't really comment on the food and wine. I ordered a latte and maybe they were short-staffed but I felt like I was standing there for a long time just waiting for someone to come to the front to take my order. The latte itself tasted more like milk with a hint of coffee and was loaded with ice cubes. They have small tables outside the perimeter of the restaurant, which has a cute vibe. The food and wine might be better but I was underwhelmed by the coffee. read more

It also serves as a bar. The coffee was delicious! The limoncello spritz was so refreshing. I was not expecting to have a drink but went why not! I was able to get work done and have a treat. Very cute and some of the most excellent Bellinis I've ever had. There was surprisingly plenty of seating inside. Everything was clean and comfortable, and their outdoor seating is also the perfect scene for a sunny Sunday. However, we went there on a rather quiet day and the service was only okay. Not very attentive and a server had come to take our order but then never checked on us again so we were just confused on how to close out. Also, they didn't have a great selection of food. Lots of pastries and sandwiches but nothing to pick at while you drink. Additional disappointment if you have food insensitivities. This is my absolute favorite place in the UES. If you come here on a Saturday or Sunday morning you will most likely see me reading my book at one of the tables with a croissant and cappuccino. I just love everything about this place, the coffee, the atmosphere, the staff is all wonderful. Sitting outside is also a treat! Coming in the afternoon or night is just as special as you can enjoy a cozy, warm atmosphere with a glass of wine and some food! You won't regret coming to this gem! read more

We walked near this cafe and, after reading very good reviews about this place, decided to eat there. This is a very cozy cafe in European style. Italian music is played here. Our table was served by a very friendly and attentive waitress. We ordered Panino con bresaola, Salatini, Salame e Formaggio, Rossini, Cappuccino and espresso. I rate the entire order A+. I will definitely come back here to try other dishes, drinks and of course dessert. read more

To eat I got the egg sandwich with ham, cheese and it came with tomatoes and lettuce. There was one slice of what I think was American cheese and it was on a brioche. Looked like a hamburger bun and it was small. I thought the eggs would be scrambled by they were over easy or over hard or something as they were not runny and not scrambled. It comes with fries but , I opted out of fries or a side salad. The sandwich had no taste really and it was pretty oily. I was disappointed in it especially, because of the price of it. This restaurant was empty with one table being used when I came as I came around 10am so it was still early. But the decor in this restaurant is very pretty and elegant. They have a back area with more tables and chairs and a nice looking bar area. Will I come back and try something else for either lunch or dinner or to have a drink? well maybe. I mean the staff were nice though when I placed my food order and explained to them my food allergies there was a bit confusion, they thought I was allergic to only potatoes because I opted out of having french fries but that was not the case. She had to have one of the other guys come over to hear what my allergies were. They both were nice but felt a little rushed while telling them my allergies. I rate this 3.5-4stars. There is ample rooms between the different tables and the lighting is nice. The music, or rather muzak, are covers of songs which don't really fit here such as Despacito (I can't believe I heard this at a Yorkville place) but at least the volume was low. The service was a tad slow and didn't pay attention well enough but I presume some of this will improve as the place has been here longer and I'm not surprised how long the meal lasted because it's Yorkville/the UES. They gave us several types of bread to munch on with a couple pieces on each side not matching and there are bottles of olive oil. The best of the breads were the grissini/breadsticks and there was a piece of olive bread which was pretty tasty also but all of them were good. I went with a special of the day as my appetizer which was the Soft Polenta with mixed vegetables and tomato sauce for $24. This was pretty pricey but the portion size was probably big enough for two to share. The polenta texture was fine and warm while the vegetables (zucchini, carrot, eggplant, tomatoes, some other stuff) was much hotter on top which was a bit odd. I wish that there was more of said vegetables because this was the best part of it with the tomato sauce being quite nice. Another person had two appetizers as their meal and enjoyed the Fritto Misto as well as the Eggplant Napoleon. My main dish was the Pistachio Crusted Salmon which is listed online as $28 with citric fennel and butter. However, as said, the actual menu version is an extra $10 more and has a lemon-capers vin blanc sauce instead along with sweet potato puree and asparagus. I have no complaints about the protein as the salmon was good quality, they gave a pretty decent portion, and it was cooked very nicely with me personally having ordered it as rare and it coming out as such being fork tender and quite buttery. My issue instead of the fish was the pistachios as while the dish was listed as crusted, the pistachio flavor was almost muted being more of a topping than a crust which was unfortunate. The asparagus below were fine and the puree which took up the majority of the plate had a good texture and the flavor was fine. Overall, the dish was good but not almost $40 good. Another person had the Spaghetti Special with cherry tomatoes, calamari, and fra diavlo sauce for $42 (also available with shrimp instead for $36 on the main menu) which they enjoyed, one person had the Fettuccine Bolognese, and another person split the same salmon dish with someone else along with I believe the whole Mediterranean Branzino which they enjoyed. For dessert, another person ordered the chocolate cake at the end for us to share which which was a good portion but unfortunately was a bit dry with another person at the table saying that was probably a bit old. I was happy that it wasn't too sweet though I did find it dry with the crust at the end being the best part as it had a good texture. From the completely different price points and menu to the service woes to the minor issues with dishes, it's hard for me to give this spot a higher rating. The chef clearly knows how to cook everything perfectly but the little faults add up. Mid 3 lowered.

At least two people were occupying entire tables without buying food from the cafe and three were working on laptops, leaving little room for museum visitors. The bathrooms were filthy and my quiche was served on a giant plastic plate (paper would be better).

The suits were daily, the walls were gold, and the pressure was so consuming that even success could feel like a form of attrition. After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. Even now, I remember Monkey Bar as a great Midtown lunch in a memorable room, surrounded by the residue of old ambitions and the gratitude of having survived them. After finishing the fish, I was left with a plate full of broth, rendering the plate unusable. Plus, it was overpriced; for this dish, you're better off going to Strip House Strip House remains the undisputed king of this dish in New York. A friend ordered the chicken parmesan. It was just average. Another friend ordered the short rib stroganoff. The flavor was decent, but it was far too rich and heavy. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

The staff was so kind and welcoming, and they were very accommodating -- I was even able to bring the stroller inside, which made things super convenient. Everything was solid, prepared well, and tasted good. No complaints and now we wan to go back and try out brunch. They did a nice job renovating the spot with a bright upscale diner vibe. Come here for food maybe but skip on the coffee...
