Loved it! Got the cheeseburger and fries combo with a Leffe (I told the owner you'd never find that in NYC, great Belgian beer on tap served in the proper glass) and both were superb. Burger in particular was gorgeous, with a perfect complement of messy toppings. Again I loved this place but found the whole NYC branding to be confusing. This is a long review because I feel that burger joints is one of the few things that we miss in Brussel, and they have the potential but didn't nail it yet. ---------- Quick version: If you have time, yes give it a try. But for me the next time I want a burger and I see a 1h waiting line I'll be moving along. Good but not special. ---------- Being a personal fan of burgers in all it forms, made pretty exited to try this place. But excitement quickly turned in to state of wondering if this was a good choice when we walked in the restaurant. I don't think they thought it would be this popular from the start. First off the venue is not made for this amount of people to wait. The line goes around all the tables and can add up to 1h of waiting (probably part of the NY experience I guess). They do inform you on waiting times and ask if you wish to drink something. System is: you order on the left and then wait with a beacon at a table for your order to be prepared. Speaking of food, finally (you had to wait on that part the same time I had to wait on my burger). There are 6-7 beef burgers, veggie, chicken versions. You can also order salads (they looked good), shake/smoothies and dessert. So on the variety of food no comments. But soon as you go in detail on the beef burgers (my main focus of this visit) I don't seem intrigued by the options available. You normal, cheese, bacon varieties. I would have loved to see some more creative burgers (recipes can be found all over the internet these days). There are some more special combinations but they didn't tickled my interest. I went with the Rockefeller, simple with cheese and bacon and BBQ sauce. The burger itself was ok. Meat was ok but for me missed good seasoning. I know tastes are different. But if you want to add your mark on the burger scene make it a bit more special then just meat. Buns were a brioche but they get soggy quick, so not sure best choice. I wouldn't call it the best burger in town, not for the time you have to wait for it. As for the french fries, the look like the ones you get at McDo. At little more creativity would have been appreciated. And the side of coleslaw was more carrots with a little bit of sauce then what a real coleslaw is supposed to be. All in all. If you have time, yes give it a try. But for me the next time I want a burger and I see a 1h waiting line I'll be moving along. Good but not special. read more

To judge a good burger joint we usually look at the quality of the produce, the size, the look, value for money, service and general feel of the place. Manhattn's scores highly on most of those even though the service may be a little wayward. There are roughly ten burgers to pick from, with prices between 8 and 13 euros. For 5 extra euro you get handmade fries or a coleslaw, a sauce and a drink to add to your burger. On our first visit we tried a Gotham and a Gatsby burger. I asked for the meats 'saignant' and we were not disappointed, it was quite simply perfect. The burger was juicy and succulent, and the toppings, bun and glaze (truffle on the Gatsby) came together wonderfully well. This is no mishmash of cheap ingredients, the products are good and the compositions thought though. So strong points for the star of the show, the burger. The accompaniments were less exciting, the fries weren't bad but by Brussels standards somewhat under par. As for coleslaw, tasty as it was, I'd rather more cabbage and less grated carrot, but that is just a personal preference. Note that they also have rather yummy looking salmon and chicken burger, and have vegetarian option too. Something to try next time round. We did not get round to trying a dessert, and felt sufficiently full after our burgers, but they are mightily tempting: chocolate chip cookie or ice cream sandwich. In fact, despite feeling full I could have been tempted to order one, were it not for the rather hectic service which put me off the idea. Manhattn's stands out by being the closest thing you'll find to the more traditional US burger joint. Order one end from a straightforward menu, take a seat with your wireless coaster pager, and collect when it starts blinking. Simple enough? Well not quite, if it works then this is a rather good system, but some problems here make this a work in progress. As people enter they tend to divide into those that first look for a table and then order, and those that order and then look for a seat. If you happen to queue first and then look for somewhere to sit down you may find seating a challenge. At the counter, where you have one to three tills operating, it can get quite chaotic. After spending 15 minutes in the queue with one till operating, there was a surge when a second opened. In a fine example of 'survival of the fittest' it resulted in a lot of shoving and pushing only then to discover one till was only for people with cards. I also agree with another yelper who mentioned confusion when ordering slightly differently from the standard menus. Overall very good, I feel once service at the counter has been sorted out this could well be a winning burger joint, coming closest to what one would expect to find in the big apple. On the go? So, went here with the Boyff when we were staying in Brussels. It looked and promised to be a gormet burger experience. It was not really. You go up to the till to order yourself and then wait until your bleeper goes off to go and collect the food. The secret sauce.... not quite sure what they are trying to achieve here, like KFC secret receipe? Well, if they are going for something remarkable, then they have failed. The burgers were decidedly average. You are perched on bar stools, so a bit of a balancing act is required and there is nowhere (well anywhere obvious) that you can hang your coat or put your bag, so on a narrow bench you have you sodden wet jacket and bag and trying to make room for your burger. We have to have a look around for condiments as they were spread about and not necessarily at the table. Limited drinks too. I was actually going to give it a 3 star, but then I thought about it more and the more I think the more I was "Meh" about it. read more

On the paper it looked good, they sold it like the best burger place in Brussels, homemade buns and sauce, premium meat, etc... But the reality is way different.. Their burger are ok, the buns if they are homemade, well they taste industrially made so that's a big miss, about the meat, pink is a way too cook a burgers??? Really and its suppose to be premium beef?? And you only have two ways to cook it? the taste of the meat is pretty average same for the hamburgers.. Service is way too slow, on a busy night, you can queue for almost an hour.. If it wasn't so loud, so crowded and if they were serving good burgers, the place could be really nice. I had high hope but got really disappointed by this place.. They are really good at marketing but not at making the burgers matching what they are selling on paper. read more

Update to previous review: In the couple of times that I have been back to Manhattn's since writing my review in November it has got much better! Having been recently on a Saturday night and also a Saturday lunchtime, the organisation has greatly improved and the teething problems of the start have died down. At least one more senior member of staff seems to always be on hand at the order desk which speeds things up, customers have become accustomed to the concept, and a separate member of staff deals with handing over drinks, rather than the person taking orders having to disappear to serve them. The kitchen has also become more efficient at processing orders, so the half-hour wait for food which I experienced at the start seems to have been eradicated. The senior staff now recognise regular customers such as myself and are very welcoming and appreciate repeat custom. And, crucially, the burgers are still the best around! read more

Went yesterday, the place wasn't too crowded, then again it was a Wednesday night. This place is fine, it definitely nailed the 'Manhattan' feel. Funky illustrations, industrial meets exclusive topped off with a 1920s Broadway-look from the outside. The food? Decent. My burger was fine, nothing too special, the fries were standard. For 14 euro I cant complain, but I definitely won't be craving a burger from this place any time soon, or give it a raving review. I proposed trying Manhattn's to my friends after driving past it a couple of times. I also read about it in the Dutch newspapers, saying that these Dutch men started a restaurant in Brussels. So I was really exited about trying it out. I was a bit disappointed when we just arrived because we were with a group of five and wanted to sit down at a table. But the waitress said we couldn't do that and had to all go in line first before we could sit down. Although later when people entered and just sat down she didn't tell them this... However, although there was a long waiting line, the food was really good! I ordered some sort of veggie salad and there was also a burger with a similar name. So when I got up to pick up my order I got a burger instead of a salad. I told the cook this and he immediately apologised and started making me a salad and told me he would just call me when it's done and I could keep the burger. I absolutely loved that veggie salad! But the veggie burger wasn't so great.. I don't really enjoy any "burgers" or "meat" that don't actually have meat in them.. Like soya or tofu for example.. But I tried my friend's burgers and they were delicious! So going for a salad or burger here is definitely something you should do! read more

I think people oversold that place to me, and so I was a bit disappointed when eating there. First of all, it looks like a fast food. No waiters, just people taking orders on a computer and giving you one of these vibrating things that tell you when your food is ready. The atmosphere is very austere, feels like the walls are saying "eat fast and get out!" Giving that you have to do all the work yourself, I think the burgers are overpriced and not as good as I expected. The bun is the main food in there, I even took off the top, otherwise I wouldn't have finished it. I live within 2 minutes of Manhattns and was looking forward to a new local eaterie! I went at lunchtime when admittedly it was busy but it was a bad experience. A long queue with only one cash till and server. The menu is misleading . It says burger and fries but the fries are not included in the price! So a "deal" is required which adds to the cost. The burger was good. No problem there. The fries were cold and inedible. The coleslaw was the worst I have ever tasted and soggy! This cost €32.00 for 2 people. Good place for a filling lunch in the Avenue Louise. During the lunch this burger place is crowded since some of the business people are using it for their lunch break. The service is pretty fast: actually you order your burger at the counter, pay and you will get immediately your drink. The burger needs to be picked up once your buzzer is alerting you. I had a Rockfeller Burger with spicy French fries. The burger was really good: meat tasty and medium (which seems sometimes to be difficult for some burger spots), tasty melted cheese, savory onions and smoked BBQ. A little bit disappointing the French fries. I was expecting something more under the term "spicey": I got only some fries with pepper on top of them. The presentation is nice as well and the cooking time was pretty fast considering that the restaurant was almost full. We are here last night as a group of friends and had three different burgers and the chicken salad. They all looked delicious when they came, and pricing is good compared to the nearby Cool Bun. My Gatsby, with mushrooms and onions, was really delicious, but the pepper sauce was very mayonnaise-y. My friend's Rockefeller had the secret sauce, which I'd recommend as a better burger accompaniment. The buns and additions were very tasty, although my bacon could have been crispier. The fries, however, were a bit of a let-down. They tastes average, and as though they had been sitting down for a while. The ordering at the counter system is fine, but a little haphazard. It works for burgers, but not for desserts or drinks like the smoothies, which you have to wait at the cashier for. Our dessert was brought to our table. There's work to be done here in getting the sides right taste-wise, and getting the organisation streamlined, but I'd recommend the burger itself wholeheartedly! read more

I had wanted to check this place for a while and last night I did. I certainly wasn't disappointed. The burger itself was juicy and tasty, though I didn't particularly like the bun. The fries were good (certainly better than what you mostly got, and better than a few friteries I know around Brussels). The sauces are quite decent, though the Manhatt'n sauce (taste of smoked meat) isn't one of my favourites. Service was not bad given how busy it was (there are 2 cash registers, not 1, as someone else falsely claimed in his review). When we arrived at 7pm it was empty, half an hour later it was full, and at 8pm it was packed. They don't take reservations so better arrive earlier (also if you want to have a quiet chat..). I do think some other burger places are better, but I like the atmosphere and it's well located too. read more

Went there with a group of friends and we had a great time. Here is a place you can see the owner knows about sales ;-). The salesperson receive the clients in the front of the registry not at the back, very helpful he shows u what they have and give you some hints (choices are not vast which makes it easy/fast to make a decision). You wait for your oder whatever you want to seat since they give you a beeper that announces your order is ready. I mean what a burger! They are huge... And the fries are something too :)). I am not into fast-food at all, but my once a month "cheating-meal" is definetly at Manhattan's:)). Ps:. Their playlist is great too! --- and remember is still a fast-food restaurant so don't go expecting to be served at your tables, places to hang ur things at... Great tasty burgers! Definitely some of the best in Brussels. It is very Shake Shack inspired with the queue and order at bar-style and the buzzer you get that beeps when food is ready. We tried the Rockefeller and the Flatiron burger (pink cooking - very juicy and melt in your mouth feel of the meat) with fries and drink for around 15€ each. Service is a little chaotic and long lines form quickly. They could however easily just do 2 types of beer on tap, loose the beer specific glasses and hand out bottle beers with glasses without pouring. The style of the place is informal anyway and serving of drinks by the personnel taking orders doesn't make the queue any shorter. read more

I believe they improved their operations a lot since the opening as far as I can compare to other reviews. Fast order reception & delivery. We ordered, payed, had a drink, devoured our burgers and went out, all within 30min. - Food is amazing. With the whole burger hype going on for some time now, I thought I would easily get disappointed. But their burgers cooked 'pink' were truly delicious, unlike anything I've tasted in other burger chains around. The place inside looks ok and the burgers look good. My burger was really bad though. I had the one with pepper sauce and my whole burger just tasted of black pepper. The bun is good, but a pepper bun is bad. The meat was nothing special and therefor the whole meal was really disappointing and very expensive. The coleslaw was very salty and loads of apple in there !? We ended up not happy and having to pay 50 euro for 3 burgers. And the fries are a bit better than a McD, but not great. I had loads of expectations and am very dissatisfied! did they really have to experiment for 2 years to find the special sauce? i can do better in 1hr in the kitchen!! read more
